“Captain, my family and I have funded your expeditions. We have given you an unlimited supply of resources, ships, and men. But what have we gotten in return? Absolutely nothing.”
It was these words that were repeated over and over in Alessandro’s head. It was true that the Spanish monarchy hadn’t seen much return from his expeditions; no, there really wasn’t much money left to give back once he and his men had arrived in Seville. He laughed. The men had been lonely on the ship, and once they reached Spain, they of course had certain needs to fill. But now King Charles IV had ordered him, ordered, to find a “Northwest Passage,” a way through the New World to the Pacific Ocean. A passage of this sorts would only make the King richer. Charles had invested greatly in the Royal Philippine Company, and if the Spanish were to find a faster way to get goods from the New World to Asia, a fortune was to be made. And so Alessandro Malaspina led a mini-armada of 10 ships to the New World, with a mission. This was different from Malaspina’s other expeditions, because in the bottom of his heart, he knew that if he didn’t succeed, there would be a huge price to pay.
It would be his life.

Across the Atlantic, a group of uniformed men sat in a room accessible only by the most elite Spanish naval officers.
The Conspirator blew a smoke cloud of hookah as he looked at the men seated around him. The men stood up, prepared their rifles, and walked towards the door.
The Conspirator was the last to stand.
He whispered to himself… and the words he spoke were ominous.
”It will begin shortly.”
