Paradox Interactive games

Put the folder in the mod folder, on my computer it is - Program Filesx86/Paradox Interactive/Victoria 2/Mod

Don't install any game you plan to mod within Program Files. That's basic advice for any game.

Why not? I have lots of games installed in Program Files (because they still all install there) and many of them are modded and work just fine... just like they have done since I first started playing with mods a decade ago.

Well, nowadays Windows goes out of its way to protect the Program Files folder. It's simply easier to install to C: Games etc.

It works fine for me as well. Though you can't save any edited files, but I save it to my docs and then move it manually and overwrite, not too big of a hassle.

I haven't noticed a difference.

He's right. I learned this the hard way when I installed RTW and found that I couldn't easily just edit the faction: descr folder to unlock all the factions as I used to in XP. It's possible to do, but slightly more annoying than it once was. It's overall just much easier to install it not in the Program Files folder.

I have a question about Victoria 2 (buying it, more rather):

The Victoria 2 franchise bundle is currently on sale at Impulse/Gamestop, and I'm interested in getting it. However, if I get Victoria 2 on Impulse, will I be able to register the game on steam (I would prefer that rather than register it as a non-steam game)? Additionally, if I wish to buy future DLC/expansions from other digital providers, such as steam or gamersgate, will there be compatability issues if I buy the game on Impulse?

(Additionally, what other similar compatability issues might there be with other PI titles, such as EUIII?)

Thanks in advance.

No, they won't even start
You should come back modding Civ IV :mischief:

No, you wont't be able to register it on Steam or buy the expansion(s) from there. I'm pretty sure it would be compatible with expansions from other providers, though.

The Steam version of vanilla V2 does have problems; it has a different checksum to that of every other version (the latest AHD patch fixes that, I hear), meaning you can't play MP with anyone who doesn't also have the Steam version.

Random question to those with Paradox forum accounts and access to the HoI modding subforums:

How is the Victoria II -> Hearts of Iron 3 converter coming along?

The screenshots are intriguing right now (especially with country recognition, looks like they are really fleshing out the coup and espionage features). Too early to tell what's specifically going on right now with the mechanics, though.

Hopefully the devs for East vs West have played the Twilight Struggle boardgame, a great Cold War game.
