Paradox Interactive games

I used to try Stony Road, CORE, 1914 and Mod34. Among them Mod34 is my favourite due to its custom tech tree. I tried 1914 as Ottomans and lost the war but it was much fun. Stony Road and CORE are classics by now.

Second development diary from Johan

Hello and welcome to the second development diary for Hearts of Iron 3. It has been a busy week in the development team, with people working on historical decisions and event chains, developing the production interface, and doing work on the political and diplomatical parts of the game. Now it is wednesday again, and as the tradition goes, its a Vindaloo for lunch and then a development diary to write.

This week, I am going to talk about the production system, which is the core of the economics in HoI3. Hearts of Iron is a game focused on re-figthing WW2, where economy matters, but is not the main focus of the game. When we increase complexity in HoI3, it will primarily be at the warfare and logistics part of the game. We are keeping the IC system that was so successful in the previous incarnations of the series, where you decide what you want to produce centrally, and allocate IC on consumer goods, supplies, upgrades, reinforcement and production.

However, some aspects have changed, for what we think will create a much more realistic and balanced gameplay.

First up, we've added efficency as a concept for resource extraction, and for the output of resources per IC. This will create strategic possibilites of improving your industry in certain aspects.

However perhaps the biggest change is to gearing. Rather than having you stick on long production queues that become more efficient over time, a country has a number of practical values representing its accumulated experience in producing certain types of equipment. These decay over time, so to keep yourself up to date you need to keep continually producing equipment of this type. Now a rather interesting consequence of this rule is that let’s say you are Germany, you have focussed all out on land and air units and you have conquered Russia so now you are going to sink all your IC into building ships. You’re production will be initially be much less efficient until your economy reorients towards naval production.

Another interesting thing is that production effects technology, the more of something you produce the easier it is to research in that area. So if you want to advance technology in an area (say carriers) you are going to want to keep producing carriers to pick up the research bonus. Yes no more tech rushing, those early model carriers may not be that good but they will serve as a nice test bed for design ideas.

We're not entirely ready to show the production interface, but here is a screenshot of northwestern germany, where you can see how detailed in amount of provinces the map is becoming.

(includes new srceenie of NW Germany, man that map is HUGE!)

I am currently playing the Armageddon campaign with my friend online, and I was just wondering if you could drastically change the governments. I put in the FREEDOM cheat while testing this out and all the ministers of any country locked after the 3rd government type (Stalinist-Lenist or National Socialist-Fascist only, then you can't change ministers) but the government type would still change. Is this becasue of the cheat or was the campaign just not developed further?

Just recently got Vicky and its great... need a few tweaks (sadly, I doubt if there will be a vicky 2), but still well worth the dough

In my opinion, it's virtually unplayable without Revolutions and VIP.

What he said. But with VIP it becomes truly and epically awesome.

hmmm, I've never even tried VIP....might give it a shot...

FWIW, I don't think Vicky is unplayable...it's just that it gets even more awesome with Ricky installed :yes

Playing Armageddon with HoI2 and Doomsday installed as well, started in 1936 as France, it's 1940 now. I've had 5 submarines on naval interdiciton off norway stuck in a "battle" with 21 and 4 (seems like two seperate stacks) German (at least i think they are all german) ships. My sub's organization and strength have stayed full the whole time...

Meanwhile I've almost lost Holland and half of Belgium and there is no sign of the BEF >_<

EDIT: August 1941. Still no sing of British intelligence. I compeltely lost france due to, well, no freaking clue, I'm calling . .. .. .. .. .. .. .. . on that german breakthrough. I relocated to Africa but things are not going well, the british lost El Alamein (they left 1 unit to defend it) and the rest of their african army is sitting around jerking off in the sun, half of them are in Palastine for some reason. I've pushed the Italians back to eastern Libya but I am badly outnumbered and unable to advance further. I lost half my navy in one battle agaist a few italian ships, no idea what the . .. .. .. . happened. That unit of 5 subs off the coast of norway spent TWO YEARS without taking damage, losing organization or supplies locked in a battle with 23 german ships before suddenly losing and having 3 subs sink.

I'm starting to think the french (in my game) are a pack of useless cowards who would have surrendered long ago if I had allowed production of white flags.

hey you people who play vicky Rev I have a few questions
I got vicky used off ebay and I lack the manual (oh was that fun to begin with), I figured out most of the stuff but I was wondering 1.how you load units onto boats 2.Is there any way to annex a nation completely a la HoI and 3. I somehow got into a presedential dictatorship, how the hell do you get out?
Thanks in advance

1. Send the boats to a sea province, march the units in. Note, that if you have more units than the boats can carry, you dont get a warning message or anything, you just canmt march them, so check its the right numjber.

2. Yes, but its 4 provinces to annex, as its 3 in EU3. for uncivilised naitons you can annex them at any size (meaning, ridiculously that you can annex China but not Denmark).

3. sort of gamey, but one way is to cause a revolution by taxing everyione at 100%, rebellions will break out and when the rebels take the capital a new contitution will come intmo force!

1. Place the transports in a sea province next to your troops and then order your troops to walk into the sea province.

2. Uncivilized countries can be annexed instantly (Korea for example can be annexed in one war.), civilized countries however can only be annexed if they have 3 provinces or less (including the capital) unless the annexation happens through an event.

3. Do some political reforms. To do this, click on the tab labelled "Politics" in your statusbar on the left side of the screen, and then on "Political Reforms". Allow some form of voting and set political parties to "Right to ban" or "All Allowed" and you should receive an event on the 1st of the next month that will turn your country into a constitutional monarchy or democracy.

So, I got Victoria, and I've been liking it the little I've gotten to play it(busy with school, haven't had time to play it since first getting it really) but Christmas is coming and I can't think of anything I'd want to ask for really, so figured I'd ask for some paradox games. Gonna ask for EU3 complete, I'm just wondering, with HOI3 coming out next year(although late next year) think it'd be worth getting HOI2DD even if I'm not too much into just warring?

I just got Hearts of Iron 2, and After a few hours of playing I got to understand how the game works.

But now its Feb 1943, I have defeated Italian Libya and would have occupied mainland Italy if German reinforcements havent arrived. Now, Im not sure how to plan an invasion of Italy and I have around 24 units (Plus like 50 other nations reinforcements) in Southren China and the Japanese Troops are too well fortified and whatever for me to take them out. I tried playing China and attacking from their side but nothing is working...
Someone help me...

This is so goddamn epic that I just have to bump this thread:

Diplo-annexed Denmark, Poland-Lithuania, Brandenburg, Hannover and Prussia. Just won an epic war against Austro-Russian alliance, Ottomans got Pest and I got Galizien and Podolia in the peace treaty. Also I have about 10 provinces in modern day Louisiana(some are trading posts, 5 provinces have over 1,000 inhabitants), couple of provinces in South America, Asturias(Spain had to be punished), the Azores(Portugal had to be punished as well) and Basrah(Ottomans declared war on Safavids, and I of course went to help my ally :).

This is from quite an old game that I haven't finished. Diploannexed Poland, Bohema and Brandenberg from what I can remember.

You can try using it on Steam, but I don't know if that will work or not.

EUIII Compelte is on sale on STEAM right now. Just add it to your cart and see if it accepts your giftcard.

Or you can buy it in a store if you can find it.
