Paradox Interactive games

Every country I have played has had a completely cronic and uncorrectable deficiet in energy and oil. This is at peace, after disbanding most units, etc.

By the sound of Johan's updates, 1.3 is going to fix a hell of a lot of problems with the game. It's unplayable for me too, and if 1.3 doesn't make it work I give up, but Johan is generally as good as his word, so i reckon soon enough the game will be up to its enormous potential.

I don't plan on buying any of their games until the complete versions are out. Which sucks because that means like another 4 years before I get to play Vicky 2.

Which countries have you played as?

You don't actually need to worry about oil going down as such, it's fuel you need and every 'day' some of your oil will be converted to fuel.

As for energy....it is really cheap to aquire, you should be able to trade for it fine.

Doomdark posted another Heir to the Throne dev diary on the Paradox Forums.(Apparently on the sixth, woops. However, it does mean he'll likely post another one today.) Looks pretty interesting.

Have you ever been annoyed by people who do not seem to understand the concept of personal space? Maybe some relative with zombie halitosis? In international politics, this type of thing is common. Big countries like to stand much too close to small countries and, preferably, boss them around. If you think Aunt Josie is bad, you have not had a hug from Tsarist Russia... This brings us to a new concept in "Heir"; Spheres of Influence. At the cost of some prestige, powerful nations can extend their Sphere of Influence over weaker nations by means of a new diplomatic action. This is similar to a guarantee of independence, but any form of meddling (offers of alliance, guarantees, military access, etc) by an outside power will yield a Casus Belli. A sphere of influence can normally only be reduced by force (peace option) or if the balance of power shifts enough. The system provides a new use for prestige and a reason for the great powers to go to war with each other.

That's it for now. Further morsels next week, amigos!

And, of course, the screenshots.

There's another one about the dynasty system. I haven't really played as a monarchy yet so I'm not sure what to think but it looks cool.

There is indeed another diary posted today! It deals with how the thone will be claimed once a monarch died. Alot more intresting in terms of using the claim throne feature!

Question. Is Mount and Blade worth the 50-60 bucks? After patches and what nots?

Edit actually 30 on Steam but either way question still stands

It's $30 and yes it is worth it and has been worth whatever ridiculously low price it has been since the first public beta was released.

The Warband expansion (adds multiplayer and some graphical improvements as far as I know so far, may add more when it is released) is also in Beta right now too.

Mount and Blade is really awesome. And it is one of the lowest priced games I ever bought within 2 years of its release.

I'm going to be the dissenting voice here, and say M&B isn't that great. To me, it almost feels like an engine awaiting a game. The combat is brilliant, but the game gets very repetative very quickly - there's no variety at all in what you do. It's a medieval combat simulator and nothing else.

If they took what they have, put in more varied gameplay, some proper goals (maybe a proper story) as opposed to the vague "conquer stuff" and so on - essentially, take the combat and build a proper game around it - it could be great. As it is, it's still worth getting if you can do so for cheap, but it's got very little longevity.

Congrats, you have successfully stated a few strengths and weaknesses of M&B. Now go get some modifications for it which do a damn good job of bulking up the game.

Any in particular you recommend? I did try a few mods when I played M&B (around 6 or so months ago IIRC), and they were pretty much just unit replacements, maybe with a new map, and some minor tweaks - very well made, but they didn't address my core issues of gameplay variety and longevity. It was just doing exactly the same thing with some different graphics.

I just saw HoI2 Collection on Direct2Drive for $9.95, this is a huge deal since on gamersgate it is $20ish. I'm going to buy it-how do I patch it, though?

Read the description/features thread before trying the mod then. I don't really keep up on the mods anymore, but I was playing Sword of Damocles which gives you a year to forge your own kingdom and alliances before a powerful legion of seasoned veteran troops from some empire invades.

D2D has to make the patches compatible with their version of the game since they encrypt the .exe files further. If I were you I'd wait and buy it off somewhere else instead. There will likely be sales on it at some point on both Gamersgate and Steam. Or just pay the $20 as it is worth it.
