Paradox Interactive games

If they don't make some new monies, then they're not going to be making new patches for anybody, though. Hence why they'd need to have new projects underway.

SAVE IT! There are plenty of us who don't give a sh!t about "HOI". I DON'T DO MODERN.

A company can multitask. I'm not going to wait for the games I want because they're trying to "fix" HOI.

Yes you are, in fact.

For EU2 fans, there's been a new release using the EU2 engine. It's called For the Glory and it was developed by the people who made the wonderful AGCEEP mod for EU2. FAQ is here

It sells for $20 or for $22.50 you can get it with EU2 if you don't already own it.

I'm vaguely interested in buying this but wondered if anyone has actually played it?

Also which map mods have ben converted for the new game as I like to have lots of provinces. The paradox forum seems to indicate that there is a WATKABAOI conversion but is there a mymap version as well?

Yeah, I've played it. It's definitely better than EU2. Much better modding posibilities, and the interface is much better. Lots of other small additions. Gameplay is still pretty much the same though, but they will add stuff with upcoming patches. That said, many of the hardcoded values ingame (BB, cost for buildings, colonization etc) have been externalized, so it's possible to change the gameplay quite alot by yourself.

MyMap should be available soon. AGCEEP will also release a new map soon (they said at release of the game).

There's a demo if you want to test it before buying: http://www.worthdownloading.com/down...=4474&id=20572

I don't even play HoI, I'm just saying, it's bad for their public image if people(like me) are going to be hesitant to buy their games right away because it took 2 years and 2 expansions to make EU3 a good game and will likely be the same with HoI3, besides that what, 2 months after release it's still got tons of bugs and major issues apparently.

Well I don't play it either and I don't want Paradox glorifying a game I have no interest in.

HoI isn't modern... and it is really good.

Of course it's modern. I'd be more inclined to get Victoria if it covered 1815-1914 the British Imperial Century. Anything post WWI is modern. In fact, arguably beginning of 20th century is modern.

Have fun being on the same boat the HoI3 players are on now when Victoria 2 (I assume that's what you're after) is released :)

Why? I'd be grateful just to get the game I enjoy covering the periods I like and with the gameplay I like. No complaints from me. Some of us are not spoiled to get dozens of games manufactured about periods we like.

Yes you are, in fact.

You want Vicky 2 or not?

I'll certainly be grateful when it turns out that France is able to outproduce all it's neighbours and due to a bug is able to stay at war once it brokers a peace deal. Meanwhile my quadcore computer is chugging along because 7000 of my pops change between athiesm and protestants every hour and thousands of other pops migrate to California and immediately go into a cycle of changing political party preference every other day.

Paradox Games have always been buggy releases. If they were to stop working on patches for HOI3 many of their customers would boycott Victoria 2 just because of that and other customers would never buy it because they could never be sure that they would get a bug free and effecient game.

I do indeed, and will get it come Q2 2010. But you can't leave HoI3 players hanging just cause I want Vicky, honeycheeks.
That's because you're also a HOI player. You want to have your cake and eat it too.

Don't you already have plenty of WWI, WWII and shoot them up games that you can play. How about leaving something for those of us who value something other than shooting things up?

I don't have any shoot em ups at all and am a pretty casual HoI player. Vicky is my all-time favorite game. Its worth restating here that you had never heard of Vicky until I told you about it

HOI isn't a shooter game :lmao:

Well I don't play Vicky and I don't want Paradox glorifying a game I have no interest in

HoI is set in WW2 ys, but it is a GOOD WW2 game. I personally find the time period extremely interesting as, like WW1 before it, is is a major clash of cultures and radical (and in some cases, cataclysmic) changes. I have no interest in Vicki yet, I don't have the time or patience to get around to playing it anytime soon, I do own it though and enjoy seeing other people's posts about it. Vicky 2 is on the way, so stop whining. The success of HoI3 will be good for Vicky 2 too, if HoI3 wasn't patched in favour of another game, buyers may be wary about buying Vicki2 in case it too is abandoned.

I can't believe there is such a childish argument going on between Paradox fans...

I mean Ulyaoth is just speaking basic sense.

That said, HttT dev diaries are making me DROOL!

FWIW the Paradox CEO feels Vicky 2 won't make a profit.

Hey all,

I really like that people are excited that Vic2 is in development. This feels like an interesting and exciting project for all of us, however it is no secret I voted for another project from the Paradox dev team.

Johan assured me our fans want this project, and so did you (forum people) in a poll on this forum.

So in brief; I think this project never will see profit (reason is simple Vic1 was a terrible launch). Johan thinks it will. Johan and his team have the responsibility to create a good game and of course we hope that you will buy it since this was the most voted-for title in our poll.

So, what do I bring to the table except for whining? I have promised the dev team (and checked with my family) that I am shaving my head if this project ever sees profit. AND post pictures of it here in the forum.

We will have a budget meeting in the coming two weeks to see how many units we need to sell to reach our break-even; and keep you posted. Progress reports will follow.

And yes, I am serious.

Cheers,
Fred

He has since said he's not as confident, given how much interest its got so fat... 1st dev Diary is up for anyone who is interested. Soldier sprites look amazing

HOI is a war game. It covers the entire WWII period. The fact that you're still a casual gamer still suggests you embrace a game where war and fighting is the sole focus.

Its a war game but not a shoot em up. You do know what the difference is, dont you?

Question which doesn't require a whole thread:

Why is it that in Vicky, I (as in the state) have to buy import goods so my factories can produce their ouputs if I am Laissez-Faire & Free Trade? It really bugs me when those factories then sell their products on the world market, and I only get whatever tax I set for the workers/capitalists.

If the capitalists are going to use my resources, they should buy them from me (and conversely if I am going to use the factory's goods, I should have to buy it from them).

I don't see how HoI, Vicky, or EUIII are in anyway "casual" games such as phone games, Tetris or bejewelled. And as Ralph said, HoI2 is strongly focused on way, wars are very much a large part of EU, Crusader Kings and Vicky too. And I don't see how being a casual gamer means embracing fighting games...

Also a shooter is 3rd person or 1st person real time game like DOOM or GTA or Call of Duty.

I think if you made laissaz-faire economies too true to life the government would have little to do (other than rescuse the capitalists ever few years)

First dev diary for Victoria 2.

Really it just explains why Paradox decided to do Victoria 2. It also included this image.
