Paradox Interactive games

I have that board game. It's great, and tailored for 2 people and 2 people only, which is a rare thing in board games. Subi almost describes that game, I highly suggest you get it somehow.

edit: I also notice it's now the number one rated game on Boardgamegeek even passing Agricola. Woh. Yeah it's fun.

I have a problem. I’ve never played a Paradox game. Sacrilege, I know.

I’d like to fix this problem, but given the wide array of choices out there, I’d like a little advice as to which game I should get.

Should I go with EU3, or something more recent?

Persuade away!

EU3 or CKII are a good place to start. GamersGate is having a sale on Paradox games right. Every game is 40% off, with one going to 75% off for a daily deal.

I started with HoI III. :smug:

(but it sucked so I got EU3, but then I got Vicky 2 and now I don't like EU3 that much either)

I just bought Victoria II with AHD and the sprite packs for just £7.50 from GG, which was an excellent deal. I'd heartily recommend EU III Chronicles and the new CK II + DLC Pack I saw on GG.

Not to mention any realistic cold war scenario would be incredibly boring, thanks to MAD.

Well, knowing that AIs are what they are, MAD isn't really a sure thing. You'd constantly have to try and figure out if your opponent really would use the bombs in a limited capacity, at least for the first few games.

Victoria II has become virtually unplayable on my PC. After about 8 months or so of game time my screen goes a nasty purple/green colour and my computer freezes up, forcing a hard restart. It happened a while back when I updated my drivers. They've since been updated further but the problem persists. I don't want to have to roll all the way back. :(

Are they the NVidia ones? I've noticed that they're somewhat buggy, yes.

I have a GeForce GT430 and I've noticed weird glitches as well, like when my monitor completely blacks out, but still remains powered (blue light steady). I can only assume that Nvidia will fix it in due course.

Unrelated, Paradox is set to announce ANOTHER major project - historical grand strategy - at gamescom, meaning they will have three of those on their plate (March of Eagles, the AGEOD Napoleonic game on Clausewitz engine they took over ; East vs West, that Cold War co-production with the Darkest Hour people, and now this one.

Speculation for this new game is split between people wanting/expecting Rome II (based on CK II mechanics) and people wanting/expecting Europa IV and possibly the arrival of third-generation Paradox games with a new engine.
