Paradox Interactive games

Nice to hear that you enjoy EUIII, Bast. :) I haven't tried EUIII, so I could be wrong, but I think history is better covered in EUII, especially with the AGCEEP mod.

I never played EUII. I wanted to play it but I could never find it in stores and I was going to order online but never got around to it. I was introduced to the original EU when by chance I just found it amongst some games that my uncle had.

I think you are right but with In Nomine coming out soon, it'll probably be as good as EUII or better. Like I said in another thread, I'm sure Paradox wouldn't want EUIII to be the poorer cousin of EUII.

Even before In Nomine, EU3 isn't the poorer cousin of EU2. They're just differently set up. EU2 is more historical, with countless historical events. EU3 is more open, allowing more a-historic results, allowing some crazy empires that never happened :)
Some like this, some don't. If you want more historic stuff in your games, you might want to try out the Magna Mundi Gold 2-mod It adds a lot of historic stuff. And tunes some game mechanics to be more realistic (for examply using missionaries to convert)

I started off with a bit of HoI2 (I'd like to congratulate the AAR writers in getting me interested in this game). Then, after, I got engulfed in Vicky. I can't get out.

I picked up EU1 because the back of the box made it look like a sort of advanced Risk, and since myself and a friend of mine had started getting into Risk recently, I bought it. From that I learnt of EU2 and HoI, then pretty much keep buying the games as they come out. Hell, I got EU3 before it was on the shelves at my local Game

Still can't quite get the hang of Victoria, though.

If you play as Peru in Vicky, just sell Bolivia to the UK and France right away before they can rebel. :p

In what way?

I just can't seem to get the hang of the economic model - I'm never sure if I'm trading right, and I always seem to be at a deficit when it comes to my national earnings.

I did attempt a game as Brazil to decent success (with the help of the VickyWiki), but I couldn't seem to apply what I'd learnt to playing any of the major nations.

I learned by playing Germany, but then again i'm the type to dive in headfirst

I played my first game as the USA, try playing as them because if you stick to history (aka get the Republicams into power, win the civil war, get rid of slavery) you will get tonens of immigrants who you convert to craftsmen and fill your factories! Also capitalists are awesome as they build railroads and factories when you have a liberal government, especially if you drop rich taxes!

I'm doing this post majoratively in caps because I want success in asking this question:

IS THERE A GOOD CONVERTER FROM CRUSADER KINGS TO EU2/EU3?

IS THERE A GOOD MOD FOR CRUSADER KINGS?

Ok, a question for the HoI2 players out there. I fired up a new game as Norway, and managed to keep the Germans at bay. When they attacked SU, Finland joined in. I managed to defeat Finland with a little help from the Russians. However, when I had annexed Finland and got all their large airfields, they were swarmed with aircrafts from the allies. This was a severe drain on my supplies: I had to use all my IC on producing supplies instead of reinforcing and upgrading my armies. Anything I could do about this? Perhaps release Finland as puppets, if that is possible?

You can't stop them from putting planes on your airfields, if you're part of the alliance. You could release Finland, if you controlled all the necessary provinces (usually the national ones with VP's).

So, my HoI Anthology pack showed up last night, so I installed the whole thing and started playing. I started off with the base HoI2, and decided to try out Russia. Probably a bad choice, as the shear amount of land I controlled was staggering. And my research teams are terrible. And while I had the largest army in the world, it was almost all Infantry'18. I build a few factories, another 30ish modern divisions, and started researching industrial/infantry upgrades. Around 1938 the NAP I had with Finland ran out, so I invaded. Within a few days I had Poland, Germany, Turkey, Romania and Hungary declare war on me. Even with my 20 Infantry'39 divisions, I only managed to take 1 province (attacking in November may not have been a wise choice). I ended up giving up and going to bed, as there was no way that I'd be able to hold off all those armies. And even by late 1938, I still had 100+ divisions needing upgrading, and I had been devoting between 60 and 100 IC to upgrades the entire game.

So, next game is going to be trying out someone a bit smaller. I think I was overwhelmed by the size of my land, and definitely made a pretty poor choice in attacking Finland. Spain looks like it could be fun for the next round.

Quick question, does it matter where I build Factories? And does building Infrastructure help make troop movements faster? I was building long strips of Infra across Russia thinking it would help me march troops from one side to the other quickly, but it seemed to take forever for my Infantry to get anywhere.

The shear amount of resources I had was pretty sexy though, I'm definitely going to give Russia a try again once I have some more experience with this game.

Inn Nominee is ot on May 28th for anyone whose intrested! Means i'm gnna have to finish up my AAR nice and quick as I wanna play another game or 2 of vitoria before I get that!:crazyeye:

@LordKestrel - you don't need to declare on Finland manually, just wait for the winter war events to kick in. Also factory wise as Russia I build them in the ural areas, you are gonna move your industry there anyhows when Germany invades!

Might give it another install then, and give it a shot :)

Quick question, does it matter where I build Factories?

Provinces with higher infrastructure construct factories faster, IIRC. Other than that I don't think it matters. I generally place them out of the way (like the Urals, as Davo suggested) in case my front-line provinces need fortifications built or what not. I generally only build factories in the first year, and most of the main countries can get by with their starting IC - events and technology upgrades will boost it over time.

And does building Infrastructure help make troop movements faster? I was building long strips of Infra across Russia thinking it would help me march troops from one side to the other quickly, but it seemed to take forever for my Infantry to get anywhere.

It does, but building such things aren't really worth it. Units can be Strategically Redeployed from province to province (select unit then ctrl-right click destination province), which I think is faster for long-distance travel. As Russia I would simply build the units then directly deploy them to the provinces I think I'll need them at.

The shear amount of resources I had was pretty sexy though, I'm definitely going to give Russia a try again once I have some more experience with this game.

USA is a good choice as well - isolated with massive amounts of resources. You can make catastrophic mistakes as them and still recover easily to try again. Germany, if you play them historically, is a good starter nation :)

Should be noted I only have HoI2 without the expansions installed, so some things might have changed.

Gah. I got it and it didn't work. Only then did I realise that Deus Vult was the expansion pack, and I don't have that! Hahahaha. Meh.
