Paradox Interactive games

To be honest, I would have preferred an HoI2 scenario that started either just after the surrender of Stalingrad or the just before Kursk.

So I just bought Vicky (I know, a few years late to the party, but hey, I'm a Mac user) and I have some questions I can't figure out.

1. How do I add the other types of stations(Coaling, Mission, ect.) to territories I'd like to colonize?

2. How do I become ANYTHING but an Uncivilized nation? I'm playing as Japan at the moment and I don't know how to change.

3. Is there a way to increase my research point to make research go faster than about 6 years of research? Or am I just impatient?

1. Do you mean to other provinces, or some province you have already built a station in? You can build only one type of station per province. If you mean to another province, you must either have a land connection to the province or the province must be a coastal province.

2. Japan will get civilized if you choose the right alternatives in certain events, don't remember which events because I haven't played as Japan for a long time. If you play some other uncivilized nation and want to become civilized, then you have to get a certain amount of prestige, industry and military(I don't know the exact numbers).

3. Invest more in your education, that will increase your people's literacy rate, which will give you more research points. If I recall correctly, I'm not sure. :D

Okay, that clears that up to an extent, but what is the technology I need to know to colonize territories with lesser life ratings? At the moment I am stuck because everything that I have not yet colonized around me is at 15% or 10%.

And I'm currently The Netherlands satellite, how can I end this? War(favorable?)? Diplomacy?

This might help you.

Hard to say without knowing what you are doing already. My guess is that you need to become a civilized country. Other options include changing your science school so that it is more efficient in the field that you are trying to research. Increasing number of clercs could also work. I am assuming that your education is at 100% already.

As an uncivilized country Clergymen give a large boost to education although being uncivilized your RP generation is cut down significantly regardless. Once civilized more Clerks will provide a large RP boost. The higher your literacy rate the more RP will be generated for each pop.

To create the colonial buildings the province needs to be within range of one of your current naval bases or be bordered by a current territory. You need to have the correct colonial life rating(or whatever its called). If you hover the mouse over the desired province the display bar should say where you are lacking.

This seems to be the place to ask this question:

I will definitely be getting one of these games coming up but I'm having a hard time deciding if I want Rome or EUIII with the HTTT expansion. Both were released practically concurrently, so I was wondering if there were features in one or the other that made the gameplay more enjoyable or if its really a wash as to which period I think I would enjoy more.

Your input could go a long way to helping me make a decision, so sell me! :)

From what I've heard, Rome isn't that good. However, HttT is amazing. Definitely EU3
:yup: You can't go wrong with EU3 with HT3.

Has anyone tried Rise of Prussia or any of the other AGEOD games? I tried the Rise of Prussia demo and it is hard to learn.

I've only heard less-than-flattering things about Rome, but I will echo that HTTT is really good. EUIII was already just about their best game, and HTTT polishes it up to a mirror shine. Plus if you like things more realistic and brutally difficult, Magna Mundi (the free mod version) has now been ported to the new expansion, and that's one of the best mods for any game ever.

Your other option is the newly-released Arsenal of Democracy, which is basically like HTTT for Hearts of Iron 2, except it doesn't need the original game. The best and slickest HoI experience at the moment, at least until HoI3 gets fixed (which could be a while...)

really? from what I've heard arsenal of democracy was essentially HOI2 with not much added

Probably added about as much as HTTT. For me, the main thing it adds is air attacks by individual province rather than just region, which was the most frustrating thing about HoI2 by a long way. A lot of the changes are streamlining existing systems (trade and production particularly), balancing stuff and AI improvements. Certainly not a new game by any stretch but a pretty solid expansion. As a $20 standalone, I'd say it's definitely worth it if you're new to HoI though.

The problem is that it's all a bit blah if you've played HoI3. Obviously HoI3 is still pretty much a dog's breakfast, but the sheer crazy ambition and potential of it make HoI2 and AoD look pretty tame by comparison. I've found it hard to go back, myself, so I'm stuck in limbo hoping that HoI3 1.4 and the AI mod will do the trick (not that hopeful, honestly).

I went the other way, I got sick of HOI3 and played a couple games of HOI2

I just wish that national stability was still a factor, I really wanted to have a successful blitz of Britain

Its my birthday in less then a month and I'm thinking of asking for vicky. Is that a good choice? I already have HoI 2. Should I just wait for Vicky 2? As I'm afraid it won't work on my computer as it sucks =P. So the question is should i get vicky or wait? Btw I've done research and If I get vicky I'm getting the expansion :P

Tried out Rome and... everything in it sucks, except the character system, which was new to me (never tried CK).
But this alone isn't enough to save the game. Maybe once they get around doing 3 expansion packs :mischief:, the game lives up to its potential. Vanilla EU3 was quite a snorefest too...

+1 to this.

EU3 Complete + HTTT perhaps, if you don't have it already.

(Off-topic, but I like your avatar :D )
