Patch 1.09 released!

Anyone have problem with no music?

Early game, there is no music...at least in the games I've played. Have you made it to the Classical Age, and been denied music? Have you zoomed in as far as you can, centered on your city/ies, to hear the tribal chantings?

for me the movies only lagged when i set it to the max resolution (oddly enough i run nearly everything on that resolution just fine, heck my desk top is on that resolution) also it seems to throw your settings to the wind :(

I was having no problems with the game; laptop, built-in ATI card. I had to unpack the AP0 files in order to get the thing to run, but other than that, no problem. I spent way too many nights sitting up way too late playing the game, which is just what I expect from a Civ game.

But I just downloaded and installed the patch, and now it doesn't run anymore. I start the game; it brings up the "loading screen," but then nothing. I do a CTRL-ALT-DEL and it doesn't even look like there's a process running for it. The "loading" screen just comes up and goes away, and that's it.

Uninstalled; deleted all the relevant directories; reinstalled. Installation hangs inexplicably without error message during the reinstall. This Is Not Good.

I read somewhere that there is no music until the Music tech is discovered. :)

Arg! I can't run the patch on the D-2-D version. I can't seem to find a kind soul to send me the "civilization4.exe" file that might unlock the patch. I think I'm up a creek.

I wonder if I am going to have to download the whole game off one of those peer-to-peer sites just to get my legit copy working.

I suspect that I can drop the original "civilization4.exe" file into the game folder, run the patch, then drop my copy back in and go.

Can somebody point me to the file I need?

I seem to have downloaded it with no problems.

However, I still have the same major problem. I still have dark terrain. If my warrior is exploring then every move he makes darkens out the area he just finished exloring. The issue I've had for the past month is that my explorers are running around in circles because I have no way of knowing what they previously explored.

Also, world maps mean absolutely nothing to me because nothing is revealed after the trade, not even on the minimap. In Civ 3 if you trade for a world map the whole minimap brightens up with all the colors of the civs territories that was in the map.

It's especially frustrating becasue so many people have said that this patch has solved their problem. Why won't it solve mine?

If I hit on properties and go to patches then it's right there. Was there anything else I was supposed to do? I haven't played a complete game or advanced through a game long enough to determine if there has been any changes but it certainly didn't solve my major problem.

finally it's say patching was ok!

Then came the horror, freeze during the cinematic at startup!:(

No problem prior to v1.9 pacth with the opening movie or the wonder movies!

Bravo Firaxis&Take2!!!!

Well I got it via in game update. About 2 minutes to download. Installed fine, bout to playtest it some. Hopefully it will stop the crash to desktop when I give a worker an order bug.

Is there a CivIV patch? Oh boy. I hope soon I can find out where to get it. I've been reading and reading here to no avail. I hope it can fix problems. It's bad not to be able to see wonder movies and deal with blackout patches on the maps. One question, do you have to buy the game before installing the patch? Thanks in advance. And I hope everyone will let us know, step by step, how their downloading goes and, move by move, how their games go. This is a wonderful forum. Thanks to all the providers. Cheers.

Nope , you get music when you reach the classical era (or if you just go for theology early on you get the super relaxing allegri misere et al) :)

It made things worse for me. Only fix I got is now I get to
see hammers , wheats and coins porperly.

- First time ever I saw Classical windows error dialogue! and crashed.
- Memory leaks faster now.
- The movies are worse. They were somewhat watchable before, now
totally a slideshow.

Also foreign advisor screens look worse. The relation lines got smaller
and background is plain now. Is that supposed to be?

- Memory leaks faster now.
Dude, you've got to be making that up. For a start, how are you measuring the speed of the memory leak? And more importantly, why are you the only one experiencing this? I haven't noticed any memory problem with 1.09 on my computer. It runs perfectly, with 1GB of ram, for very long periods of play. It doesn't get slower over time. Closing and reopening the game does not effect how well it runs (a reasonable check again any serious memory leaks).
Describe the problems you are having in more detail, and tell them to Firaxis. But don't just make things up, like "memory leaks faster now". It is highly unlikely that they made the memory leak worse with the patch.

While I won't say that the leak got faster with the patch, I have to agree that it's no better. I started a brand new huge map to test it out earlier. It was smooth as silk for awhile, but as the world started to fill up, the game started to slow down. Now while I can live with some slowdown, it eventually slowed down to the point where I'd get graphical glitches and a crash (either a CTD or just plain lockup). Alt-tabbing out the instant the glitches start to occur show that the program is taking up nearly 800 megs of RAM and over 1 gig of virtual memory. Add to the fact that these problems only occur on larger maps (which naturally require more resources), I'm inclined to believe that Civ 4 does indeed have a memory leak. Or at the very least, it has a serious problem in the way it caches it's data. Something is causing Civ 4 to suck up more and more system resources until things start to go crazy. That fact can't be denied.

i'm with radeon mobility 7500
glad that black terrain has gone after patched
but it seems i still can't see pigs horses etc...
any has the same problem as i do?

Well, no luck for me. My games still crash randomly to BSOD, so I have to reboot. No noticeable better performence. I hope this patch help others.

edit:
Oh, and movies are much more "choppier" now. I guess I'll have to hope for the next patch.

I just downloaded the patch, but got the same '1706' Error that Graun reported. And yet it kept on going, and said I was patched to v1.09. I guess I'll see.

... OK. Started up (choppier beginning movie). Game 'kindly' tells me my system is sub-par. However, selecting Play Now, I get a starting postion without 'Dark Terrain'! A definite improvement! Too late to do much now, but I'll check it out more later.

I have a Pentium IV, 2.4 GHz, 512 MByte RAM with an Intel 82845G Graphics card.

sorry about the double post but I went back and checked the faces and no more just mouth and eyes... I SEE THE WHOLE PERSON!!! I'm so excited. BTW, if anyone is curious I have the intel 855xx or whatever card

I realise this will just be echoing what everyone else is saying but... THAT IS AWESOME. While I don't want to sound like a fanboi, thankyou Firaxis - and shame on you those who have actually complained about this: clearly Firaxis values the community much more than many other companies to fix an issue that they were not obliged to fix.
