Patch 1.21 bugs & problems.

I just loaded the game I was currently playing before the patch(started this morning as a matter of fact, hehe), and I have a weird scrolling bug with the mouse.

When I am in the lower half of the map, nothing goes wrong, I can scroll up/down, left/right without a problem.

When I am in the upper half however, I can't scroll down past the equator, I need to click on the minimap to go below. The scrolling just stops, as if you were at the end of the map. I can scroll up from the bottom with no problem, but not the opposite. Also, I can't go past the 3/4 line on the right either, same problem. This one goes both ways, I will block at the same place either from the left or the right.

It seems as if the map coordinates were 'moved' and the map cropped at the wrong place. It's a standard size map and I'm on win98 SE. Everything used to work fine. I haven't tested other save games tho, just this one. Anyone else had this problem?

I tried your SAV file last night .. and I had the same problem with your file: scrolling below the "equator" without clicking in the minimap. Also can't get a continuous east-west scroll. I'm using XP as my OS. I don't have the problem with a game I started with the 1.17f patch about 3 days ago, nor do I have the problem with other SAV files.

I also DON'T have the language problems on the Editor tabs that some have reported.

Of course, I haven't encountered most of the bugs others have reported in previous patches. MUST BE GOOD CLEAN LIVING :D

So far the game seems good. No problems with colors for me.
Just one remark: i was playing a hour or so, wanted to adjust science spending ... and was back in windows. Civ3 just disappeared. No ask for save etc :/. Its a bit like the anno1602 bug when win2k came in.
System:
-533 Celeron
-128 SDRAM
-Trio 2d/3d +Voodoo2
-win2k
Any sugestions?

Did you by any chance set Barbarians to off? No barbarians is different from "sedentary" barbarians. Sedentary means you don't get roving packs of barbarians unless you get a bad draw with a hut, but the huts still exist for you to plunder. No barbarians apparently means no barbarians, no huts, no pirates, no nothing.

If you didn't set Barbarians to off but picked random, it's possible that the game randomly picked the barbarian setting to be "off".

Also, for stack movement, could someone describe what the problem with it is? I've yet to move large stacks under the new patch, and the wording that has been used is ambiguous.

Is it:

1.) You cannot move a single unit using stack movement unless every single unit on that square is unfortified.

Or is it:

2.) Only units that are unfortified are moved along with the stack.

If it is the latter, then this is actually a desirable improvement, at least to me. Imagine a situation where you take a town with a big stack of tanks, and the turn ends with most of these tanks inside the town. On the next turn, you want to move all but two of these tanks out of town and leave those remaining two on garrison. Well, if you wanted to stack-move them out, there was no way you could specify for two units to remain behind, the stack would pick up everything and move it out of town.

Oh, and regarding the colors...I actually prefer it the new way. Seeing the Americans occasionally dolled up in Frenchy pink or the Greeks wearing Japan's dark red road uniforms or the Iroquois in China's lavender pink is a nice change from the americans always being the jarring sky blue and the Greeks always that one shade of green and the Iroquois always dark purple and the English always orange, etc.

If it's not supposed to be like that, then I guess that's the early adopter's bonus, like goodie hut armies for people who downloaded the Valentine's Day 1.17f patch.

We removed the hard-coded limitations of unit and resource icons, in the game (the editor actually never had this limitation). So now you can add additional icons to the file (if you don't like our icons) and have them show up in the game.

I should note that the hacked editors appear to work quite well for adding objects but until we sort out all of the issues/limitations, we do not officially support adding objects (aside from government types and cultural opinions).

That's nice Mike, except your argument has a logical flaw. We could change the icons before -- in 1.17. It was pretty simple. What you did was take away the hard coding so that we could use extra icons at the same time that we were using the old icons. But you took away that function in the editor. Mike, I'm sorry, but what you posted is a bold faced lie. "Until [you] sort out all the issues/limitations." BULL. Until you have an expansion pack to sell.

Note to the Administrator: If I got nasty, I'm sorry. Firaxis screwed up and Mike is trying to cover it up with some illogical double speak. If you want to ban me from the forums, that's just fine. I never post here anyway. This is a load of crap.

This is my first post.

Used the new patch with an existing game that uses Marla's Map.

I am playing China and was at war with Japan and India. I was also mobilized.

I made peace with Japan and my mobilization status change to normalicy even though I was still at war with India. I should still have been mobilised.

This is only a minor bug as you can re-mobilise.

Apart from that I have not encountered any problems with this version.

I also notice that music now plays when you open diplomatic negotiations with other countries.

Only a minor, but annoying, bug discovered so far--both play preferences and sound preferences were reset. I always play with sound off, and was a surprise to suddenly get sound and not pause after each turn.

The fix is easy-- better documentation in the readme. I play late at night when others are sleeping, this was not a pleasant surprise.

Steal what you can't or won't make your self, repackage what was stolen, say "look what we did, ain't it neat.", charge a few bucks, make some money. That's capitalsim, plain and simple. Nothing new, been going on as long as we've had money.

No, the mobilisation was correct, or at least consistent with previous patches. It has always reset you to normalcy whenever you make peace with anyone, even if you were still at war with a third (or in your case, fourth) civ.

Music always played during a diplomatic parley, actually, it's probably the best music.:)

Attention: This fix requires forethought and a general clue.

In the registry, their is a CD_Path key. If you don't put the CD in that drive, or don't have a CD at that drive letter, the program bombs.

Note: It is 2002 - get with it guys, people add drives and stuff on occassion - I have yet to have another program fail on me because I run the CD from a different drive letter than where it was installed from...

how do i fix this? i AM running the game from the same drive!!!

Hey guys. Just got up to date and it seems that besides the foreign OS/Editor issue (which we're looking at), there aren't any existing issues.

On the food/shield pref: this is the way it's meant to work. The Sheild output of a grasslands tile is always meant to display. On other tiles, they are hidden.

On Clean Map Hotkey: This is working for us Gramphos. Not to say it's not a bug, but we can't dupe it.

On Scroll issues: Anyone having this issue with new v1.21f games? If so, drop me a line at jmorris@firaxis.com.

On Audio Pref changes: We needed to delete the civilization3.ini file for this patch.

Am I missing anything? Any NEW issues in v1.21f? Anything that worked in v1.17f now NOT working?

Thanks.

Jeff

after installing the patch it asks me to put the cd in the cd drive but its already in it! the same happened with 1.17

Does this mean you're looking at Add/Delete in the editor?
I found this change in the readme... it was really shady of you guys to just write "Editor: Fixed some bugs with Add/Delete buttons."

Firaxis makes my favorite game in the world... you got the game to me early, so it's not perfect, and I'm fine with that. I'd rather have a sloppy game 6 months earlier than a perfect game 6 months later. But this change to the editor is uncalled for, and as far as I'm concerned, pretty devious.

It started to work after a reboot. So I was probably just out of RAM

Well, It is this empty popup for scenarios with no rules, and no description. It's quite confusing. If you don't have anything to write: don't pop up ;).

Oh, and I can add that I've no problem with the editor in my Swedish WinXP nor Swedish Win98SE
