Ah come on this damn thing STILL hasn't been released? As soon as this thread popped up, a lot of folks stopped playing new games, instead waiting for the patch. You know, it's not like Civ is Pac Man where you finish a game of it in 10 minutes. Most of my games of Civ take WEEKS to complete. I imagine a great many folks are the same way, long games that nobody feels like stopping half through because the patch is released.

So we wait.

And wait.

And wait.

Throw us a god damned bone here and at least give us an IDEA when the damn thing will come out. If it ain't going to be this weekend, then at least say THAT. Leaving everyone hanging with "soon" is BS at this point.

It's been two damn weeks now.

"We are done with the patch".

No, apparently you AREN'T.

Venger

^I agree. But I'm not that frustrated. At least there is a patch. ;) They just haven't released the damn thing yet!

That isn't a bug, forts connect resources in BTS...
Hmm... are you sure? I've seen an automated "build trade network" worker build a fort over some silver that was in my borders but not inside any city's radius, and it still said "requires mine" in red... I don't think it was hooked up. Maybe that feature is bugged too or something?

Why would you want to build forts over resources instead of the appropriate improvement anyway? I must be missing something here.

According to the Apolyton thread, it should have been here "early this week". Well, early this week has come and gone. It's almost later this week since Wednesday is just about over.

I'm not really complaining, I'm just impatient. I hope we can have it by the weekend. I'd be happy with that. :)

Defense? If, for example, your sole oil patch is near the edge of your borders, it'd be in your best interests to defend it well, and a fort would help with that.

Also, I haven't played in a while, but I think you're right; the HUD still says you need the appropriate improvment for the resource even if you have a fort there. However, I'm assuming that refers to the tile benefits the improvement would grant (which aren't given with the fort), but I've never had problems connecting the actual resources this way.

This actually makes sense for resources outside of the fat cross of one of your cities. A fort gives you both access to resources if it's in your cultural borders and defensive bonuses if you want to park a unit there to defend it. The drawbacks are that it takes more turns to build (though it might not be more if a forest / jungle needs to be cleared, I forget), and that a fort doesn't provide any of the resource bonuses for working the square (a moot point if it's unworkable due to city placement).

It's possible the "requires mine" referred to the additional gold bonus and not the silver itself.

So, just to be clear, if there's a fort on a resource, I get the resource (although perhaps not the bonus(es)) without a mine?

This should be a lesson to all: don't stop playing just 'cos a patch is coming. You'll just get all cranky from withdrawal.

Exactly. Doesn't make a difference, when you get the patch the game will just be better! I don't see any reason to stop playing. :D

Well, thanks for clearing that up for me, guys, I guess the UI feedback just threw me for a loop. Still seems a little strange.

Regardless, I wish the patch would come out. I'm lying around at home on sick leave this week and it would be awesome if the patch release coincided with my downtime :-P

The problem for me is that I quit playing a couple weeks before the announcement of the patch because I was getting bored of the game, but after news of the patch broke, I decided I might as well wait until the patch is released to begin playing again. Now its been over a month since I've played Civ and I'm cranky and I've waited this long for the patch that I can't justify starting a new game without it.

Well, I just keep playing my current game until I finish it, and then I patch the game. I'll often get the patch 2-3 days or more after it is released.

Problem is that this patch is critical to many people, me included. I have been waiting for long days because and yes I'm getting cranky.

Heck I even bought the excellent World in Conflict but still cant stop coming here to check if its out, im going craaaazyyyyy :crazyeye:

I am almost positive it has been said in this thread that v3.13 will be able to load 3.03 saves, so there should be no reason why it should prevent you from starting a new game.

"The save format will be different, but it will be backwards compatible. That means you will be able to load v302 saves from v313, but you will not be able to load v313 saves from v302.

It should be out early next week. We had to go back and fix a couple of new bugs we introduced."

Just FYI.

:smug: :smug:

I'm not saying that the reason for me not to start a new game is because of the fear of it not being backwards compatible... For me, the game just doesn't feel 'right' when I know it's about to get a massive overhaul. It's the same reason I couldn't play Warlords when I knew BTS would be coming out in a few weeks, or why I couldn't play Vanilla when I knew Warlords was coming out. It just feels too rushed as it is now.
