Patch Update: We had some installer issues where different installations of the game (Gold / BTS without Warlords / Civ4 Complete / etc) gave *MOD* warnings in MP and caused problems for locked assets. It took them a while to sort out these isses, but everything seems to be OK now, so the plan is to release the patch after the weekend (Monday or Tuesday). Thanks for your patience (and please don't shoot the messenger).

And for those that will cry "why didn't they release it today!": If they do, and there's some other critical problem that comes up, no one wants to work over the weekend to address it.

On the subject of colony maintenance being tied to distance from palace, I would assume it it figures out the colony maintenance before it applies things that reduce it like state property or the forbidden palace. Otherwise it would be so easy to get rid of colony maintenance that it wouldn't do what it was intended to do, i.e. give reason to grant independence.

I think that culture is balanced simply because of the position it puts you in. In essence, your three best cities are having to focus on culture instead of science or military, which puts you in a bad spot. I think it is pretty balanced overall.
I agree. But it is too easy anyway. Just protect your cities, build lots of culture and you'll win before the modern era. If it was balanced, can you explain why the Ai win culture victory games before any of the Ais completing the Apollo Program (at least with my settings: Emperor/Marathon/standard.setting)? Did you ever see an Ai win a Space Race victory in BtS? Or at least go close to it? I'm not saying it is completly wrong, just that they should balance the culture point (=turns) needed for a legendary level city with the increased science point (=turns) needed for a Space Race victory (since the new techs added in the tech tree extended the number of turns needed to fill the TechTree).

I don't think the victory conditions were ever intended to be equal in number of turns. If that were the case, the game would have to be balanced so that all victory conditions were to be achieved in 2050, otherwise they would all be earlier than a Time victory. As long as long as victory conditions are moderately challenged and not broken in any way I think that they are fine.

Thanks for sharing! Good news indeed. I would invite the messenger to dinner...

People are here to play and want the best for the game and from the game and here comes the delivery. :goodjob:

   I have enjoyed your posts...
What if that post had said....Soon....

You know, within the OP's original message to us, he writes
Believe me, I know how hard it is to wait
I have appreciated that sympathetic tone, and it has always, I think, tempered somewhat any animosity I might have displayed.

This fix in the list might be especially good
Fixed an AI issue with amphibious invasions
I don't think the AI has attempted one of these types of attacks on me yet!

Certainly these, to alleviate incessant checking and changing what is going on or should be going on in your cities
Tweaks to Governor, particularly "Emphasize Food"
Governor fills the food bar better
Governor works hamlets over cottages.
Fixed bug where city governor would sometimes work sub-optimal tiles

This one is a show-stopper (without Solver's patch) if you play on Marathon, as I do, and perhaps other speeds.
Espionage Poison Water and Unhappiness amounts no longer incorrectly scale with game speed

Certainly this one
Military Science moved to Renaissance

These ones are sure to be welcomed
AI trains spies with lower priority
Added Solver's events
Spies downgrade towns, hamlets, and villages instead of completely destroying them

On and On. This is quite a major update

Haven't gotten this far along in history yet
Fixed nukes nuking themselves to death crash :dunno: :badcomp:

Hopefully this deadline doesn't pass as well...

Update from Alexman on Imadethisup.com:

Sorry, gang, but we've run into another strange problem with the patch. We're not sure when we can get this resolved, so we're just cancelling the patch and, based on player feedback, will be regressing the game to the code found in Civ III and removing the palace, then de-listing Take2 on the NASDAQ as an act of contrition. Mea culpa mea culpa.

Thanks for your patience and continued feedback.

I can't believe it. They're removing the palace.

Thank goodness for an update, and we won't have to wonder this weekend, since he's ruled it out.

Curious, might be nice to post at both locations, rather than have the info spread by contagion...

Sucks not to have it for the weekend, but if there is work to be done, there is work to be done.

Venger

Yeah especially considering the website that he got it from (hint: reread the name of the website).

Hopefully this deadline doesn't pass as well...

Actually, this is not a deadline, nor was there ever a deadline. We will release the patch when we are ready to do so.

We are happy to give you time estimates based on the current situation, but situations change. We can keep totally silent, if you prefer.
