It was probably discussed in the other forum because the bulk of people here in this forum just want to whine about everything. "Waaaaahhhhhhhh. Firaxis isn't telling us anything about a patch." "Waaaaahhhhhhhh. Firaxis said they're working on a patch but they haven't released it yet. I WANT IT NOW!" With how so many people act on this forum, I'm amazed that Firaxis even visits here anymore. :rolleyes:

Adequate communication prevents situations such as this developing. What we have had is a rather poor standard of communication from Firaxis regarding this patch.

What Firaxis should've done was on Friday told us that the patch was going to be delayed for however long on both Poly and CFC after they realised the patch wasn't going to be released by the time alexman's OP implied (sometime last week). Instead, they waited until Sunday GMT to even give any sort of an update on the patch progress, and that was only on 'Poly, and many people don't check both sites.

Of course, this will just get you to troll some more because you're just another fanboy who can't notice when Firaxis has stuffed up.
 
:hmm: while there are quite a few reports with issues regarding the graphics:
saying that 25 people who want this option in your poll are 60% of the community is a tiny bit underestimating the size of this forum ;)

You are very correct, sir... I'm just not really expecting the trend to change...
 
Agree wholeheartedly with azzaman333. I really had no expectations whatever regarding this patch and have continued to play the game and enjoy it without the patch. What started all the controversy (whether the fanboys want to admit it or not) is that Alexman's post said the patch was "done," thereby suggested release would be in the near future, and: (1) added a poll inviting posters to say that the patch was "worth the wait," even though neither the "worth" nor the "wait" can be determined until the patch is released; and (2) failed to clarify the situation until, arguably, over a week later with a post on the other Board -- a post which is now proving to be similarly misleading in that he said the patch would be released early this week and it's now mid-week.

It's just bad business and poor communication. The fanboys should stop whining, making excuses for Firaxis and simply admit Firaxis has handled the situation poorly. And, no, I would not have been asking for a patch had the OP not have been made.

I do agree that they should allow more graphics reductions either ingame or in the .ini file so that those that have problems with the graphics can at least play the game - the movie setting listed in the change log is a good step, but not enough when looking at the problems associated with the graphics posted here :)
 
A patch that is done usually means it is done content-wise. Bugfixing might still occur and take time. When a new build is made, it has to be playtested all over again, which might take quite a while. Civ4 isn't exactly the kind of game you can play through and test everything quickly in either.

Be thankful they communicate with us at all. Most developers don't. Again I say, stop complaining. If the patch isn't done they can't release it. If you'd download the patch and find severe bugs several hours into your game I'm sure you'd be complaining about their QA instead.
 
Now on another topic, I hope they'd at some point decrease the military access requests from AI civs. I find it annoying as heck to click "no" to this question a bazillion times because I just about never allow it.

I have been quiet all along, but it has to be said....

The assumption seems to be that we should all be patient so that they will do a good job because if they released a buggy patch we could be upset and cry.

SO... if we are patient and they release a buggy patch we can be mad? Isn't that what they already did? Can we not look at BtS as a patch to Civ4 and Warlords?

I guess the difference here is that we paid for this patch.

So, what’s my gripe in all this? I bought two copies, one for me, one for my wife (we play multi-player together) and while I *can* play (still buggy and crashes), the game will not run on her machine (even though it more than meets the specs) without crashing every few turns (longest thus far is 4 turns). Basically we have dropped $60 (USD) to be told "Thank you for the cash, we'll let you play when we are ready".

For the record, I am a professional programmer and am quite aware of the QA process. I am also very aware of what happens if my company delivers a program that doesn't work to a customer. Worse yet, what happens if we deliver a program that doesn’t work and all our staff keeps telling our customers (you know, those people that generate our salaries) is “we're working on it” or “don’t complain, you want it fast or right?” Or worse yet tell them a date, miss that date and then give no update or explanation why.

I have been patient, I will continue to be patient, but I will not be happy. And I will not forget this when Sid Meier comes around again and asks for another paycheck.

It is a shame that firaxis dont give out more information. How much effort does it take? How about a simple; "Yes, we admit it - we screwed up again. Unfortunately the patch will not be ready as expected. We will keep you posted on the progress".

No matter how bug-free the upcoming patch will be, some degree of damage has been done that could easily been avoided.

They still haven't released it, by the looks of things. Sit tight, and wait until they do. Sounds like it'll be fun.

Firaxis have made a mistake, it wasn't deliberate an nobodies died, were going to have to wait a little longer for the patch, it's nice to see the change list of whats being done in it, and i'm sure the patch will be a nice addition, but keep things in perspective it's a patch and it's going to arrive sometime soon we hope, but if it's another week it's hardly like a nuclear bomb has just gone off

Do what I've been doing the last couple days and start a game of Warlords (or even Vanilla) instead. It's made me a lot happier because I don't have to deal with the frustrating BTS bugs. Drives me nuts when I see AI workers building forts over resources and crap, not to mention the auto-explore units getting stuck in endless loops. Bugs like that just ruin the fun, because they distract me from thinking strategy and getting better at the game.

Plus, if you go back now and play some vanilla Civ, once the patch is out you'll gain fresh appreciation of how much BTS adds to all aspects of the game. The AI really is amazingly different, it's impressive. Now if only that patch would magically appear... ;)
