PBEM - any candidate ?

What OS is everyone using? Maybe something by it is causing an error.
I am using XP Service Pack 3.

Also, the admin password resticts acces to things like the world builder.

I'm using XP, I don't know what SP.
I'll check tonight at home.

I'm now going to go read through the PBEM FAQ and troubleshooting threads, it is probably the best place to start with.

Found nothing yet.

May i suggest a fresh installation for everyone ?

I'll do that myself : uninstall civ4, all files, saves, etc.
(maybe i'll save my FF2 accomplishment file anyway)
And then reinstall everything from scratch...

I won't reinstall my other (independant) mods for now.

Should have no effects, but..

+ should we install in the same directory ? Does it affect the "no cheating" protection ?

I'm using XP, at whatever update is current. I'm at M and have never had any modmods installed. I'm not sure what the point of reinstallng that would bel

OKi

I had an other idea :
tonight, i'll seend everybody a test game with two civs.
(i'll send everybody mail addresses too)

then everybody tries to open it, and report the result.

This should help figure out in whose conf the problem lies.
with each other addresses, you should be able to do the same manoeuver.

It will probably spare us the search of problems where there are none.

oki ?

Ok, I downloaded the save, do I just open it as normal? What do I do than?

I get the strange: "Bla bla... file protected message."

It probably means I am the one with an issue.:( I definitely reinstall the game tonight.

PPQ : Did you put the game in the correct directory and open it as indicated above ?
(not as normal)

can you also create a game and send it to everybody ?
If you can't figure out how, don't bother with that

As indicated where?

I just went through all the steps as described and I get 3 Error Messages.
1. Could not load initial game data
2. Failed to load setup information
3. The long protection thing

All 3 are ingame messages. After I hit OK for all 3 it returns me to the PBEM meny without any crashes.

Maybe I should install the game in english ?
if the cheater protection is stupidly ichy about files formats and contents, it might explain things.
I hope (and think) that the installation CD is multi-langage.

Could it be because my installation is not on the C: partition of my hard drive?

Also, theoreticaly could we not use a Hotseat save to the same purpose as a PBEM one?
Both have turns like normal SP civ as opposed to simultaneous.

From another thread

Ah, if the save file is protected (As in, if you have the 'Lock Assets' game option on), noone else will be able to load it. Can't use it in a bug report.

I did the same thing in an FF bug report a while back.

Is lock assets on?

I tried to load the file Old Lion sent everyone with the same results as PPQ in message 76. I have started a test game. Here is the attached save file. On my system it is saved in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\Saves\pbem\Administrator's Game All passwords are set to bob.
