I browsed the MTDG public forums - looks like the game is now closed and and Demo II is starting but not multi-player.

Did you follow the link I pasted a few posts above? That thread is in the MTDG forum... The game is indeed underway, but anyone may join at any time. All that is required of you is to express your intention to join a team in the Sign Up thread, following the instructions listed in the first post. You may have stumbled across the completed civ3 game, perhaps? That game ended in November, in a spectacular fashion. I won't go into details, but I'll just say that one of the civ3 Hall of Fame ringers was on our team, and it was just amazing to be swept along as he leveraged our domination victory. In 1 turn. Just amazing.

Even if I'm on a fatally inept team, I'm still learning much more than I would on my own.
