Pericles the Culture Nut

I think you need mining and mysticism to get Monotheism hehe.

And sure, I was gonig to take pictures of the explore terrain, and I completly forgot! ! I shall post it soon!

Jumping from work to civ isn't as easy as it used to be in my former work where I had nothing to do... :D

Wow, this moves faster than expected.

My thoughts; I don't think rushing to Monotheism is that necessary. I personally think trying to get an Oracle slingshot to Code of Laws would be more useful as well as providing useful great prophet points, while being of more direct use than Stonehenge - after all, we're already a creative civ so we don't need to have monuments as urgently. A great prophet can perhaps lightbulb theology later on. It also means we go via writing which is particular good for us as we are planning to run an SE and Pericles gets them cheap.

This of course depends on whether we find some stone nearby. If so, then going for monotheism might be worth it just because masonry for a pyramids gambit is on the way.

Probably something drastically wrong with the above, so feel free to explain why. I'm here to learn ;)

I think you are right to propose your way.
We aim for 3CC challenge, Writing is a must and rather early. As for the religions, we must grab at least three of them spread in our lands.
Given we will grab Juda or Confu, I would still bulb Theo or Philo later on. We need CATHEDRALS ( or assimilate ) for our three cities. Mono is a must too for OR civic.

Thanks for the screenies Arlborn, I already see some potential GP farms ( the fishes to the east for instance), cows, sheep etc. We have some very early happiness - beaver & game. Plus, all the cheese cottaging on the floodplains, I think we are up for a great game.

Let's try to check if we are isolated or not.

As for techs, I will go for Mysticism, unless advised otherwise, for the Oracle-path.

Still 2-3 hours to wait before playing

I still suggest building a scout after this warrior. We need to explore the north of our city! I went east first because of the floodplains.

Then warrior again and settler!

And I see a good city on the hill between horse-cow-deer also. The problem may be food, so maybe we should split it...

Nah brb with a dot map!

I think we can bulb both Theo and Philo, which will meet our requirements nicely. If we go the Oracle route it will take 50 turns to get the prophet max; one we have him we can save him for theology, and undoubtedly at some point we will get a scientist from specialists/GL to spend on philo.

As for OR, I don't think it's crucial at this point. Right now it's a matter of expanding and getting basic infrastructure up. By the time spreading around the religions that OR allows is necessary I think the monotheism tech will be considerably cheaper. Not adopting a state religion, if we can get away with it, might be useful depending on who else is around as it seems to encourage the AI to spread their religions to you.

Techwise:

Do we agree on immediate Oracle-route ?
I vote for.

Build path:
warrior->warrior->settler->Oracle

I wouldn't go for a second scout - we are closed to the south and east and we have already one on hand.
BTW, we need BW to chop.

Otherwise, I made some temptative dotmapping ;)
Check and say what do you think of it:

Athens & surroundings:

Eastern regions:

Refer to colors while commenting placements. It's easier to follow :)

OK, I did a bit of, uh, dotting!

Cross-dotting ;)

At least we have placed red 1N of wine and green near fishes on the same spot ( my brown and red cities ;) )

We have to examine other options, I tried as less overlap as possible, missing the silk in the BFC.

How do you make the images big by imageshark? :p

Now, I agree with brown dot and red dot.

I disagree with agree dot though. I don't see why settle on the floodplain, and 1N is better IMHO.

The blue dot is a maybe, but we get a lot of ice and tundra! Maybe 1N or 1NE might be better.

And I want to definitely explore north! we can perhaps find something better north, specially around the floodplains! Maybe stone is there waiting for us! At least I would explore with a warrior before settling 2nd city anywhere, but I prefer a scout.

First of all, I resize it to 640x480 before uploading, and then select "Hotlink for forums(1)" field, copy paste everything as it is directly into the post.

Et voilà :king:

As for my green city, I see your point know. It's better where you put it.

However, I disagree on the blue one. I think we need this early beaver-happiness asap, even there is tundra around. It also gets the deer in the corner tile of it's BFC.

You got a point about the happiness, but I sincerely don't know. It will be a sht city... And my spot also grab deer by the way hehe.

I think we definitely have to explore north of our capitol! We may have happiness resources there, or better yet, gold!! :scan:

I personally think we should explore to the north/north-east before dotmapping too seriously. It will be explored by the time our settler is out, so there isn't a particular need to dotmap too much just yet.

I do agree with you that we need explore north, but that was just a bit fun dotting map!

And anyway, we do need to see where iron and copper will be hehe.

I don't know how you done it Arlborn, but it said "Your file is protected to ensure that the assets in your mod folder have not been changed".
Can you try to save once again, disabling any mods ?

I have only Solver AI up.

I stay tuned for a while.

Cheers,

uh - ? Oh God, I hope I didn't screw up anything? Anyway, you are sure you substituted the original DLL by the Solver's DLL? Mine is not in a mod folder, but in the main folder itself(as he says it should) and I a backup of the original...Isn't it the difference? I can't think of anything else, because if you didn't change anything in your installation, well...

By the way, I will check ASAP, but does that mean that I did put locked assets on? I don't remember doing it!!! Heck lol, I am going to check now.

Sooo, I am a big noob and messed it up. I did locked assets on. Ye, I know, noobsh. I was used to do that in all my games, and did it by reflect... :(

So, as far as I know, there is 2 options for us:

Re-roll the start or everybody changes their installation to match mine(which is 3.02 + Solver's DLL in the place of the main DLL).

Ain't I cool?
