Hi People,

I need to understand what is happening here in a multi player game i have going on.

It is about 1500 AD on a marathon game and i have decided to join up with a friend as perm allies but once we did this my friends tech got hammered and now instead of Assembly Line taking him 13 turns it now is taking 30 turns why is this??

Thanks

Either you were both researching it, and you stopped or he changed how his empire was generating beakers. This is not unusual if he was preparing for a war, or was running an unsustainable economy using a golden age and max scientists, for example.

No none of the ones you mentioned did it.

It was 1 turn no change in his tech beakers, no golden age end and i am sure he did not change and scientists off his cities. It just seem that when he join in a perm alliance with me it reduced his tech... i think we should load an auto and check what was happening before, but is it something to do with the sharing of tech beakers required.

I defo didn't take any specialists off myself, although I'll prob need to check if the computer didn't do it. My economy is mint and its defo nothing to do with that. We do have lots of vassals tho

I don't know about when you start PAs in the middle of the game, but if you start the game with teams, there is a research penalty--it'll take twice as many beakers (since there's two of you contributing together). It sounds like your friend was researching a lot slower than you, too

I believe the same thing happens when you form a PA mid-game (your beaker cost for techs is multiplied by the number of players on your team). Not sure why he would have gone from 13 turns to 30 turns though - I would have expected it to go to 26 turns (assuming you aren't contributing to researching Assembly Line at all).

um the Muse i think you have it there! its the penalty that has done it! so the 2 of us combined means we need double the beakers to get assembly line. Thanks!

Haha, yeah, the majority of my games are team games where I have to "carry" my teammate in technology--he loves his wonders ;)
