PH05: THe Honorable Emperor Spaceman

Good turns :goodjob:

I agree to not signing peace. If WW is not bothering us and we cant declare, it's good to be at war. With spearmen, the mounted units should not be a problem.

We could mount an offensive fighting 2:1 with extra units to soften up defenders and then experienced units to finish them off. Does Brennus have another city where we can really hurt him with limited defenders? What kind of opposition are we looking at? We could build a SoD with 4-6 swordsmen, and a few spears for defense. If we can take another city or two, we should be able to extort some techs and weaken Brennus enough to keep him behind us.

I think with the 2:1 force of swords + a couple spears we could take one more city, but will it be worth it?

until the war ends we won't be able to get those cottages up and stable unless we can take a new city to take the pressure off NYC.

Xerol, can you grab it and go?

Taking a city or two will have three advantages:
1. Give us one or two more somewhat developed cities. Saves us building a settler, improvements and buildings.
2. Taking cities from our neighbour will make him weaker and less of a threat on the short term.
3. Get some techs from Brennus upon signing peace, which will help us to keep up with out neighbours a little.

I think that is worth the risk.

I see in the patch thread that the WL patch appears to be available. So, decision time, Pholk - to patch, or not to patch?

I'd say let's do it - I can handle a dual-install long enough to wrap up DMI, and I expect any new WL SGs (like ROTQM03) to use the patch.

I'm holding off on that patch...at least until i get home tonight. Hopefully, by then, we'll get some in-game confirmation that it's official. So far, it seems iffy at best.

but, as I said, i'm in the "Patching" camp.

Last couple of posts in that thread show people D/L'ing the patch in-game. I can't test 'til tonight, either, but I'll try with those instructions you posted earlier.

i see that and am excited to start up a game tonight! Will probably be on all night now!!

Looking at the save.

Vienne looks like an excellent war target size 8 non hill, only three defenders, if we bring 5-6 units we should take it easily.

Its a very nice city with wheat, cows, hills and floodplains by the river making it great for cottages!
Then we extort techs form Brennus for peace.

Do I need to get the patch or not?

well, so far there are 2 ayes (3 if you are an 'aye') Personally, i think the changes it makes to the game are too much to ignore the patch, but will accede to the groups wishes, whatever they be.

okay, we're patched. back to basics...

no response from Xerol, so Ozzie, you're up and Robo, if there's no response in about 12 hours and you can play, you can swap with Ozbenno and go!

okay, to keep the order, let's have Ozbenno play, then Robo ~ finally some turns :worship:

The great shiny beast rose into the sky, trailing fire and smoke in its wake. A great cheer arose from the masses of people gathered before him. He rose to speak for, as their leader, he needed to convey to them the greatness of the achievement.

As he stood, a hush fell over the crowd. He paused, savouring the moment, and opened his mouth to start his speech to the American people.

"Brennus" he said. The crowd looked at him blankly. No, that's not right George said to himself. He started again.

"Wake up General"

Slowly, the crowd dissappeared from before him and he opened his eyes. Standing in front of him was newly promoted Colonel Ziggy Stardust.

"I saw the giant shiny beast rise into the sky Ziggy. It is a sign from the gods."

Ziggy looked at the empty mead bottle next to General Washington's bed and nodded to himself.

Washington shook off the last vestiges of sleep and turned to his second in command.

"What were you saying Colonel?"

"Brennus has come back with a better offer for peace General Washington."

"Why would he do that now, Ziggy?"

"Um, General, do you not recall the glorious victory of the American forces at Vienne?"

"Are you sure man?"

"I personally saw to it myself, General." Ziggy now noticed two empty flagons underneath the bed.

"Were there any casualties Colonel?"

"Yes, all our horsies have been killed but it was worth it for Vienne is the Christian Holy City and has a mysterious ring of stone the locals call Stonehenge inside."

"Sort of like those monuments I had just erected in Washington and whipped in New York?"

"Yes, General."

"Well, excellent news Ziggy, but tell me, do we still suck?"

"Yes General but at least now not as bad as Brennus!"
