PH05: THe Honorable Emperor Spaceman

Good job and plans. And excellent job catching the Music thingy.
Come to think of it, when we first had Philosophy (long ago), we didn't immediately trade it out? Oh well.

Good stuff Zophos!

Looks like a solid builder turnset. It's time for the three C's (Commerce, Commerce and Commerce) I think the key now is to build and grow cottages. Most cities should focus on maxing pop and working cottages instead of mountains (even if it's just 2F 1C vs 1F 3H).

I agree to racing for liberalism, burn the GS on education, should give us a boost. Then religion in NY for more GPP.

Turn 5 - 900
Settler born in Washington. Send him to the cows NE of Washington, mostly because I can't think of anything better to do with it. Low distance maintenance, and it could be a halfway decent commerce village with a couple of buildings.
That's where i intended it to go. Sorry about the :smoke: must've been [pimp] ;)

Thanks for being the new Zo-Fox :whipped:

Oh...you marked it quite clearly with a big ol' sign saying 'Next City Here' (which I deleted after founding the city). I just didn't bother looking for anywhere better to put it. :)

1000AD and all's well.

I whip the harbour in Thracian, will whip the courthouse in Atlanta next turn and leave Philly alone, out of repect to pholk.

Everyone has CoL except Toko and Louis, so I trade it to them to boost the coffers by 520 gold, 100% research here we come (for a short while anyway).

Brennus' stack is off to play elsewhere.

Paper comes in and I switch to Education and burn the Great Scientist. End result, we have 1 gold piece spare to research it in 3 at 100%.

I start Uni of Sankore, purely as a cash booster for when we don't build it.

The natives are getting restless.

Education comes in and Liberalism is cued up.

Someone is happy with us, so I ask for a loan. He agrees .

I get 8gpt from Louis for wine.

New York is now Hindu.

And just like that its 1100AD. Our research has picked up to +2gpt at 60%. We have a Paper monopoly and Liberalism is due in 5. So, what to pick. Normally I'd say Astronomy but we'd need to pick up Machinery (can trade Civil Service and Paper to Brennus for this) and Optics first. Otherwise we can pick up Gunpowder or Nationalism straight away. Maybe pick up Nationalism and start Taj Mahal. After that I'd head towards Economics.

We are starting to get a bit of WFYABTA.

It may be worth switching New York to a university now as well.

Looking at the stats, we're climbing the GNP table. Looking at the imports/exports, we should think about a mercantilism/representation switch when we can as we aren't getting as much value from foreign trade routes as the AI is getting from us. I'll leave that to the keen analytical mind of Zophos for a quantification.

I could play, but I don't know what to do with Liberalism yet. I'll wait for input. As mentioned by Ozbenno: The options...
1. Astronomy (need Machinery and Optics)
2. Nationalism
3. Gunpowder or Chemistry

well, as we can't declare on our own, i would say Nat'l for Taj Mahal. The GA will be a good boost to our society, and it looks like our neighbors are otherwise engaged. Now, what to do when one of them asks us to join in . . . ?

Do my eyes deceive me? It looks like we have Open Borders with Japan - at least, the trade screenie with Toku doesn't have it as an option, red or not.

Toku says: The Germans are a threat to us all.
Declare war? Or not allowed? AFAIK "allies" can ask us to help. This may re-open trade with Toku to help backfill our techs.

It's allowed, per the OP, to JOIN a war, but you can't start one, even if a buddy asks you to:

5. If a friendly civ requests your aid in time of war, you are allowed to join them in the war.

However, re-reading this, it's not clear to me whether the requesting civ needs to be at 'Friendly', or just someone you're on good terms with right now.

no, that's sloppy word choice, sorry ~ not 'friendly' in game terms, just 'friendly' as in 'not at war', diplo relations have no bearing on declarations. we could join Toku in his war against Germany, and then, 100 turns later, join someone else in their war against Toku (which would be much better, imo for more land )

edit: so, yes, you can declare

Sorry, I forgot to resize most of my pics.

Turn 0:
Delete a warrior to save 2 gpt

Turn 1:
As per Toku's request, I declare war on Bismarck. Why?
* our relationship is higher with Toku
* we have same religion
* we can still trade Philo to him
* Toku is a big buffer vs everyone on the east side
* by trading resources/open borders maybe we can still get him to Friendly to defeat WFYABTA

So I do all this, hopefully he'll be friendly soon so we can trade with him again. Knowing Toku, he'll be heading for Gunpowder soon. Something we may find useful.

Turn 2:
Boston: Forge -> Courthouse (Market and Library both have less net gain)
Univ. of Sankore has been built elsewhere.
NY: University of Sankore -> University

Turn 3:
So this is where Brennus' stack went:
Spoiler :

Turn 5:
Vienne: Hindu Monastery -> Christian Monastery
Reaseach: Liberalism -> Nationalism -> Printing Press
Spoiler :
ph051200adliberalismah3.jpg

AC is already on his way to Paper, so might as well grab this deal and get an updated view of the world: (140gold + map for Paper)
Spoiler :
ph051200adac1oq8.jpg

Turn 6:
I now trade Education to AC for juicy deal... and after this he hasn't gone into WFYABTA mode yet! (Engineering + Optics + gold for Education)
Spoiler :
ph051200adac2ta9.jpg

Turn 7:
Great Scientist born in New York. I could burn him on Printing Press, but as that's a short term gain and we aren't too far from the tech lead anymore, I think we can build an Academy in Washington. Fortify him outside New York.

Turn 8:
Tolosa: Courthouse -> Maceman
Washington: University -> Taj Mahal (44 turns)
Whip Courthouse in Philadelphia.

Turn 9:
Philadelphia: Courthouse -> Lighthouse
Micro Washington to cut Taj Mahal to 27 turns

Turn 10:
Boston: Courthouse -> Maceman

I didn't ask Brennus to declare war, but we could, if we "actually" need to improve relationship with Brennus. We could have Brennus war with Bismarck for some Engineering + Paper.

nice turns, Robo, good to see you could post again here

what a silly move for Brennus to take one barb city so far away :crazyeye:

good thing w/Liberalism :goodjob: team! Personally, i think we should head through Assembly Line down to the bottom of the tech tree, to build the Space Elevetor ASAP, and then go back up to get the Apollo Program...everyone cross your fingers for aluminum!

Good turns, Robo! I'm starting to feel good about this launch. :yup:

Agreed, but a couple of thoughts:
  1. When might we want to pick up Constitution and Democracy? Yes, they're dead ends, but the civics and the Statue of Liberty will give us a boost in the Space Race. If we don't care about the Statue, then we might be able to trade for those both later to get the civics. But with WFYABTA cropping up, I don't want to count on it.
  2. I'd go to Industrialism before heading to the Elevator, to reveal Aluminum (which speeds the Elevator). It will also unlock Battleships, Tanks, and our UU. I hope nobody will jump us while we have our heads in the clouds, but the best way to insure peace is to be prepared for war.
Now...where are we going to put Ironworks?

I usually play the tech tree for space ship by getting Industrialism first (for Aluminium), then Rocketry (for Apollo), then Robotics (for Space Elevator).

GS for Academy in highest raw science city (Washington or New York).

Constitution and Democracy would both be good techs to pick up. I think Representation/Mercantilism would give us better research at the moment and added with Statue of Liberty, would be great.
