PH15: Every One is Special

Looking better at my own save I now notice Bismarck's borders in the north. First I had thought to settle 1S of the lake next to the iron, but that will probably be a bit over aggressive. So maybe the site you propose is better, but I wouldn't make it merchant city as it will hardly be able to hire specialists. I think merchant city should be the one 3S of Athens. So maybe it should be spy city then. Not badly placed for a future Forbidden Palace. Hmm, I was thinking about conquering already, so strike that out.
Artist city looks ok. Again, not sure about its designation, maybe it should be for the military. Although indeed by variant we *have* to build the Parthenon so Artist city should be founded fairly quickly.

And scout somehow the NW. I don't know where Qin lives, but if he's not from there that area maybe rather empty still.
Qin caming asking for OB by the way just when we had researched writing. I denied for the moment.

If we go math next, then prechop all forests around Corinth and give the final cut after maths. Maybe that was obvious, but it somehow just brilliantly struck me. :)

How about artists for "merchant spot" and military in "artists spot"?

Edit: Good way to battle Bismarcs culture if we're not invading him soon :)

Ehhm.. another idea for the specs:

What about changing the priest city to the artist one? As we cannot build oracle anymore there's no need to keep the idea o leaving Sparta to be the priest location.. And as we have to build the parthenon quite early this might be the best way to get it done.
And I too would rather take the artist spot as the military one.
So this would leave the mercant spot to be the upcomming priest location..

About teching: In case we decide to change Sparta to the artists city we need to get Aesthetics as soon as possible. And as CoL is neccessary for caste and courts this one should get priorized as well..

The "problem" here is this:

Finally, here's the official ruling on dotmapping, specialization and settling. We do NOT need to have a dotmap done before we settle any city, but we DO need to choose a specialization once we settle ~ fair enough compromise?? if not, stuff it ~ i take enough abuse from fox ;) :)

We chose the red dot as priest city so that's what it is.

:yup:

from his fingers to my ears :D

u know it.

great sets, though guys! ya miss a day, ya miss a lot

i think whipping athens was the right move. and, in the near future, I would grow it to 6 but not hesitate to whip it to 4 if needed. we've got all those fish around so we shoudl really use them up. whip those slaves, feed them and make have slave babies...then whip the slave babies!!

hurrah!!

and you wonder why my post count is so high . . .

btw, i fixed the BUG-crash-causing file so it shouldn't happen again.

Here I was almost playing the next set, confusing.... I think the roster is now this then:

pholkhero - Up
nocho - Just played
meiz - On deck
pigswill
r_rolo
Thy_Spellcraft

That's because the roster is more like
pholkhero - Up
meiz - On deck
pigswill
r_rolo
Thy_Spellcraft
nocho - Just played

I think that's an excellent idea! :)

And let's see somehow what's in the NW. If there's seafood around the most NW banana that could be merchant place, if not, I'd advocate it still 3S of Athens, and finally spy town somewhere NW.

I was actually thinking about using Pacal's cities . But can't take a look at the save now for anything more specific. Just tossing the idea up

I'm not against that idea, in fact, I also tossed it up a while back! :p:)

Maybe if we get the military place up and running quickly we can rush Pacal and get a prime spot (or spots) where his capital is right now. :mischief::)

But maybe it's against the will of our Zen master, who surely must have thought this variant out in all cruciating detail!

Had a look at the save. Interesting situation: we've run out of first choice sites, given we're limited to 8 cities then marginal sites are kind of marginal. Don't like the ele-gem city because we've got eles and gems already and the site has no food resource that I could see.

Our best bet is to do some pointy stick expansion but we have no metal. Got a few options: go for HBR and try to kill some-one, go for maths/construction and try to kill someone, go for aesthetics/lit, get Glib and try to kill someone later. Given our research rate we're not going to win many tech races. If we get aesthetics we may be able to use it as trade fodder though we probably won't get maths until HG is built and it would mean that our best units are chariots and archers.

It might be better to get the gold mined before getting the marble quarried coz we ain't going to be building any marble based wonders over the next couple of sets and we're strapped for cash.
We also need the horses pastured and connected asap.

Totally agree! :goodjob:
So the idea of using the artist site as our military city comes back to the board.. So maybe going for HBR and after Pacal to find our Artist city might be an option..

Remember that we will lose our variant if we miss the Pantheon. Therefore, artist city should not be delayed for too long. I don't really see that our artist city should be one of the top ones and that's why I'd still suggest gems / ivory / iron site for it. It's main job would be building the Pantheon and then pump out units for all I care.

This way we also get some metals against Pacal. Or we could just research constuction and build some nice elephant / catapult army.

realistically, though, counting the crummy city south of athens, we only need 1 other city (2 if we replace merchant with something else). there looks to be a spot up by those NW bananas that might work later on . . .

and iron is biz's iirc, no?

Not if we make that city our artist one :p. That city seems to be our only option to get iron (I don't count that lousy spot in south, near Brennus). Do we really wan't to play this game without metals?

I don't really care for Athens southern spot when we have much better options. That souther spot would steal tiles both from Athens and Sparta and be really medicore one. But to sum it up:

Merchant city: I'd really like this to be Pacal's capital :satan:

Artists city: I'd still go for iron up north. We could easily battle culture war there and guarantee the Pantheon (+ get some metals!).

Military city: Either next to the western floodplains or we could hold this one until the end. Every other city can build military as well so this is the lousiest one.

Spy city: Somewhere in Pacal's territory to keep our empire shape nice and thight. If there's nothing worth settling, maybe near northern bananas. But not really that important.

well, all this is academic for now ~ i played until the settler was built :D

like any good leader, i passed the buck!

will report after lunch ~
