PH15-not. Birds of a Feather.

Mutal has to be the priest city, due to the wonders inside

Humm humm, don't be seeing any wonders there.... But yeah, that's the holy city and I don't personally really care for the AP (except the hammer bonus of course :D). I was thinking all the food = merchant speacialists.

Just to reach a consensus on my set:

As aryan is only defended by a single Longbow, I'd like to DoW right out of the box and burn this one as fast as possible (Two phats should do the task..).. I'm sure or SoD is strong enough for the invasion even without any maces witch we can bring in while we're bombarding uxmal..

About raising or keeping cities: I too would rather use the spot of Mutal as our merchant city.. But as long as we don't know the GP-pool in there I'd raise and rebuild it..

Or we could just capture Mutal and if the pool is polluted, leave the city undefended for Pacal and raze it afterwards.

Played my set so far.. But as I'm bit in a hurry only the main important facts:

IT:
Made a deal with Bismark to get some cash for upgrading our sword and phalanx in our main stack:
Spoiler :

1030 AD:
As noone complained on DoW'ing Pacal here we go:

Screen08.jpg

And with Aryan the first city burned.. (2 Phants lost but it should be worth it)..

1050 AD:
Another city burst into flames:

1070 AD:
Qin asked to change civics to Bureu but as we'll need the xp I declined. And we finished Sankaore! So it's time to start some religious buildings!!!

1080AD:
We born a GE and I settled him.

1090AD:
Boudica asked to stop trading with Bismark but once again I declined.

I stoped in 1110AD, 'cause we should be able to win Mutal the very next turn, but I don't see any agreement whether to capture or burn it.. So team is up to decide!
And there's a trade to discuss about: Paper to Qin for compass + some cash and afterwards Compass and paper to Memed for philo. this would enable lib within 3 turns and we're still a tech ahead for lib.. And maybe there's someone else paying some cash for paper...

After further thought, it's quite likely that Mutal contains Academy, as it's the capital city. If that would be the case, we would need to abandon the city and burn it. We don't have that many troops, so I'd say we raze it and resettle merchant city here for maximum food.

Edit: Good spot on the tech trades, I'd definitely do that.

Well, that is true... :p. Holy city is nice but can we really get a prophet out when science city is pumping GS's every other second? I'd still go for the resettled merchant city. Let's see what other players have to say :)

The Zen Master originally ordained that all captured cities be torched down, but well, if you wanna keep it, I won't object. But merchant city sounds good too!

Just took a look into the original thread and that's what pholk said:
"I really like the idea of only being able to own greek-built cities, but i don't mind if we capture a couple tbh." So at least we can keep it! In case we do it's a no brainer to make it the priest one.. But does anybody know whether the AI likly builds the ankor? Otherwise it may be hard to get enough specialists for all the food in there..
But nonetheless I too would vote for keeping it!

Ok, so the consensus is to keep Mutal and make it the priest one? How about we make Chichen Itza our merchant city then? Riverside rice and lot's of farmable grasslands give a nice food for the city.

That would leave only spy city left. We could settle it on top of Mayan ruins to keep our empire in nice compact shape, or make a stretch and keep Calakmul. Later city would probably need to battle against Boudica's culture so I would go for the first option. Or does anyone have alternative suggestions?

I would also settle the place you indicated as "Spy?" city (the eastern sign). To complicate matters I think that may however be an excellent merchant city! 3 food resources and coastal! Then Chichen Itza would be spy city and Calakmul would be razed...

I think this would be the best idea! But also keep in mind that we're not allowed to work any cottages except for our capital! So we need to send some workers to the captured cities!!

pigswill is UP.

pigswill has Got It.

pigswill has played a turn!

T0. Trade paper to Qin for compass+60.

T1. Paper+Compass to Meh for Philosophy.
No other deals made.
Mutal was packed with 5LBs (incl 2*CG2) so its no surprise that I lost 6 cats.
What is surprising is that 2 chariots killed 2 holkans (and we got a GG):

A settled scientist and an academy! Well, well, that's nice for a priest city! :D

Will pigswill play more turns? :)

Oh, and do we want Pacal to capitulate? Is that allowed under our rules anyway?

pigswill will play more turns (and hopefully remember to post a save).

I'm not sure if the rules covered capitulation but imho it goes against the spirit of the variant.

Raze and burn I reckon and replace nasty foriegn cities with nice greek ones.

Oh, and do we want Pacal to capitulate? Is that allowed under our rules anyway?

I think the rules will allow that but nonetheless I won't do so.. We don't want lots of  because of "we yearn for our motherland", and the only reason to vassal Pacal might be to have a small placeholdr inbetween us an d Boudica to prevent her of growing even more. But as we're goinig for her next, we needn't to care about two or three cities more to raise!

So I too would vote for killing Pacal off!!
