Pie's Ancient Europe

I am happy, that you like it ;)

Some of these mod components as standalones? puh, if I had that time.....

Glad my camels made it in!
I thank you! good things get into mods ;)

there are some changes to the Romans again. there aren't three different steps of Hastati, Principes and Triarii anymore. Only two:
Hasta Warrior (Hastati 1) -> Hastati
Shield bearer (Principes 1) -> Principes
Hoplit (Triarii) -> Triarii
all those 3 types change to Legionary (Lorica Segmentata), where those units get merged into cohorts.
But the germans and celts got some pretty new special units, I hope you like them. and I am very proud to solve the problem with the "Furor Germanicus", better known as the later upcoming furor teutonicus. It's in the promotions for some special units only and it's a kind of development to become a real dangerous furor unit ;)

Are there any game reports from anybody?

I just tested the PAE V's beta and I stepped into a bug. Maybe it is because running under wine but, I feel like I have to report it.

Playing Tarqinius Superbus on a random map, enjoying it so far then AI turns never finish after my last. I joined a save file to complete my report : View attachment 307883

Beside this little thingy I am still feeling this mod as one of my greatest Civ experiences.

Thanks for this to you Pie and all the team who support you

I tried four times to d/l PAE V beta from Atomic Gamer without success. Each time I tried the d/l window appeared but it was blank. I waited more than the time indicated, but still nothing appeared in the window.

The mod is good (I learned to use rivers as connections between cities and resources), but a huge flaw of its is the lack of variety of non-wonder buildings at least until Bronze Age. This makes early revolts or other types of crisis nearly unavoidable, and limits severely the early civ growth.

I suggest you to create early buildings which would create culture, money, science and production and have other properties, just like mods like Cavemen2Cosmos have a lot.

Surprise! Surprise!

This week, the ancient gods are so sympathetic to me, I yet don't know why.

First of all mourndraken called after a long break after PAE III and makes amazing videos for PAE again!

And the second great thing is that Dertuek will translate the main files (no pedias and important strategy texts only) into FRENCH !

SPAIN: You'll have to hurry up :D

What about the Italian fans? Where are you? Rome awaits you! :D

I really like the mod!

It is great. As I am a bigtime PBEM / Pittboss player: are there any MP games running this mod?

(by the way, I am also a bit of a modder myself..)

For MP there was no time to check. It's on the open list.....

I even didn't try this BETA in SP ;).

But I really want PAE to be able for MP !!

If you don't know why, for me its just a way of saying thank you. You have created a lot of good times for me with your mod and I wanted to give back something in return. I enjoy making these movies for this mod and there are a few others on the way!

Just wanted to let you know that I downloaded the beta and it will not load. When I try to load the mod, the status gets stuck on "Init XML" with the loading bar about half way done.

I followed some advice from Aspyr and managed to bring up the following error message that I hope will help isolate the problem:

XML Load Error
Failed Loading XML file xml\text\paegametext_pedia.xml. [/AspyrBuild/depot/Civ4/Source BTS/Win/FirePlace/Fireworks/Win32/FXml.cpp:140] Error parsing XML File –
File: xml\text\paegametext_pedia.xml.
Reason: (null)

Source: (null)

For what it is worth, I am on Mac OS 10.6.8 (and greatly appreciate your efforts to make this mod compatible with the mac!). Any quick fixes?

Thanks for all of your hard work on this amazing and historically rich mod!

Mille gracie!

Welcome alex to the fanatics!

Keinfperd, do you know sthg? Keinpferd is my personal MAC executive. :D
Wrong letters due to the spanish translation perhaps? The mod doesn't even start if you ignore this error?

Hi alexyankee42! Get Textwrangler (it's free) and open in the directory Civilization IV/Beyond the Sword/Mods/PieAncientEuropeV/Assets/XML/Text/ the file PAEGameTextInfos.xml. Find in Textwrangler's "Text" menu "Zap Gremlins". Choose "Delete". This will eliminate all Mac unfriendly Windows Unicode characters. Apply the same procedure on every file in the text folder and save the changed files. With that, loading errors should be gone.

We've been working on getting rid of these "invalid" characters for good, but in the progress of adding new text and translating PAE into other languages, they tend to come back;).
