hmm... even with our advantege of finding it first it seems many other countries have started colonizing as well... what shall we do about the ones we arent allied with?

The only other one who has a colony besides our ally portugal is france....
I really have no problem with invading their colonies, they want to kick us out of europe, we'll kick them out of the Americas

unless portugal does something to turn their backs on us I really dont see how we could do that....
anyone who has without hesitation helped us in every war we've even been in deserves a colony in America

That green to the south is Portugal. The green to the north are the Iroquois, with the brown being the Hurons, both are native tribes and also (in real life) always at war.
The pink to the West is another tribe, same with that green in the very lower left corner.
I suggest a blitz on the Iroquois, they don't have forts and should be easy to defeat and vassalize. Or we could ally with them, as the British historicaly did. Most definately expand the colonies into Ontario overtime while still building them up into cites or whatever happens once you get the pop to 1000. We don't really have to worry about that too much yet.
Definately take France's holdings in the Americas.
Thinking just like the Brits did! Only a one or two hundred years earlier.

out of curiosity.... what does a Vassal do?
I know in Hearts of Iron they give you certain resources but here the only real resource seems to be gold

What kind of shape is our Navy in? Do we need to protect our colonies from marauding pirates? 
What year is it? 1489? ish? We're definatley colonising quicker than our historical counterparts.

our Navy is currently in two pieces, The European Royal Navy consisting of the majority of our naval forces until the control of Junglecutter, meanwhile in our colonies I have sent a force of three of our most powerful ships out to deal with french funded privateers
I was meaning to see weither or not I could get a certain Privateer Navy in the carribeans, currently consisting of two ships but then found out I'd have to wait until 166-something

i think once things are patched up in europe we should help one of those native tribes in their tribal war (iroquois and hurons)... i vote the hurons that way we can attack the iroquois from two sides

we will almost for certain have to retreat from Brittany
currently our best shot is pointing ourselves at Norway or Denmark and knock them out of the war, then focus on the other

Norway's weak, I suggest a raid on thier unprotected and unfortified regions to increase the war score. You only need a few troops. Meanwhile land an army in Denmark.
And don't forget to take out the French Colonies.

Argh.... Milord, why the Hell is our inflation so high? Keep the treasury slider much lower than that, we can't have our money become worthless, can we?
We would be losing a large bit of cash at first, but the yearly tax should be able to keep our economy afloat. We should pump our resources into Government (For the next National Idea I suggest "National Bank in order to curb our rampant inflation) and Land (So we can have a morale advantage over the French.
