Poland after WWII

Personally, my favorite nationalists are the Italians because hearing them rewrite Italy's 20th century military history is probably the most hysterical "in-joke" I'll ever hear. Ask them their opinion on Adwa, Caporetto or Operation Compass and you'll get something akin to a 9/11 conspiracy theory.

I wish there were more of them; too many people seem to ignore that Vittorio Veneto is one of the most brilliantly executed multi-stage operations in modern military history. The Italian Front didn't end with Caporetto. :undecide:

The fun thing about nationalists is that their time on the internet is rarely spent on adulating their respective countries' moments of glory; when other people catch onto the bias, the nationalist then spends all of his time attempting to exonerate their national disgraces.

Poland have no disgraces. And that was not us who did holocaust on Jews like some people still think just because concentration camps were located by Germans on our territory. It is pathetic how some people know the world's history :/

Apparently you haven't been on the TWC forums for very long, because you haven't noticed the incessant Romanian-Hungarian trolling and counter-trolling. It's as integral to the TWC VV's identity as "Poland is in Eastern Europe" is to CFC. And, of course, there's the usual nonsense about China vs. Rome that we've thankfully avoided here (though that seems to have died down a bit in the last several months). You've just got a skewed view of things.

Then we look at the same thing and see something completely different. Nothing new.

But there's right now the new thing - I always wonder why people wo are completely uninterested in a particular discussion like to add something "wise" there or express their "I HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY AND EVEN IT IS STUPID I WILL SAY IT NONETHELESS". I don't care about Serbian-Albanian fights or Romanian/Slovakian - Hungarian ones. I don't care about English football, German internal politics or World's Biggest Fork. I don't care about it, so I don't care what people write there and do not read such threads. Posts like "oh, this thread is so stupid that I had to come here and write >>it's stupid<<" are really telling something about their authors.
But that's only a small personal opinion.

It is pathetic how some people know the world's history :/

It's difficult to know everything. I know almost nothing about middle age Germany and I'm happy about it. That's why I do not discuss about it. But indeed - there are some thing the all civilized people should know, but fail do to so.

Next thing - I understand someone may have little knowledge about history. But it's really sad that many people know nothing about the present shape of the world, other countries and nations.

Poland have no disgraces.

Oh, believe me, it has :D As every nation in the world.

I love this post. Any further comment on my part will dilute the subtle brilliance of it.

I know that you are. But it is common faux pas that some news center will write article about "Polish concentration camps" and they must apologize Poles for such mistakes.

Jedwabne? Zaolzie? Soviet POW's? Operation "Danube"? A quick list. I'm sure it could be much bigger if I had more time. I do not know a nation that do not have shameful episodes in their history. Americans, French, Brits, Germans, Russians, Italians, Turks, Chinese etc. - everyone has.

But indeed - the Nazis are the ultimate fail in the history of the World.

But comparing to other atrocities like Hiroshima, we are small. ;> On Soviet POW's it was not act of retaliation anyway? :)

So you made the first steps on your path towards the light :D You admited that we indeed have some not very pleasant episodes. That's great. Now it's time for step number two.

Hiroshima was OK. At least I think so. But nevermind.

"Size matters not" as Yoda said. We did it, so we are not pure angels. Oh, I forgot about persecution of Jews after WWII. Pretty nasty thing. Of course we can say "hey, communists did it, not we, true Poles!" but that would be like "communism is the best and all it's historical fails were only because nation X, Y and Z were not truly communistic!"

Yeah, if you cannot do something better as excuse, then blame on commies, socialists, whatever ;) :D Like Germans say: "Not Germans, but Nazis!" ;)

Like Germans say: "Not Germans, but Nazis!"

Yeah, something like that. But I understand them and see nothing wrong in using the term "nazis".

So as you see, Poland is not an exception in this case. But, as I wrote somewhere else, I like to focus on economic growth and especially new interesting buildings. It's nice that builders can return to Złota 44.

I'll just leave this thread so you guys can keep up your circle-jerk. :)

circle-jerk

But what does THAT mean? I am fluent in English, but not THAT fluent ;P

Well, Polish History is brilliant, and most interesting from all Central European countries. [/trolling mode off] :D

But CFC forum is a rather bad place to discuss such things. It's one of the most trolled forums I've seen. Compare it to TWC forums for example. The other thing is that in the Internet everyone think he's smart etc. while not everyone really is. Discussing about things you know nothing about is a bad idea. Discussing with a prejudiced stereotype lover who know nothing about the topic of discussion is even worse - it's like a listening to an idiot.

I blame the Fiftychat group. If the mods banned most of them (:mischief:), as well as the teaparty-ers, this forum would go back to how it was back in 2007-08.

Oh, believe me, it has :D As every nation in the world.

Poland's positives on History far far far outweighs it's negatives though. It is unfortunate due to the iron curtain, western education is completely biased and ignorant of Polish history, and therefore so are the people. (Thus why we get so much stick for being "history's losers" even though it's far from the truth)

You don't need to troll when you speak the truth. ;) :mischief:

Well, only Germany can try to beat us in their history from Central European when they agree that they are Central, and not West ;)

Germans are closer to us historically and culturally than the west no matter how much they don't want to admit it. :p

German history pre-Prussia is interesting, but I never understood it well nor had a good grasp of it.
