Police Brutality in Utah

They cite drug deals. But those are not condoned by the promotors who put on the show--cars were searched (in fact the security were arrested for drug possession :wallbash: because they successfully confiscated drugs). But then why aren't rock and hip-hop concerts shut down with soldiers? Why isn't my public school, one of the best in my state, shut down? After all, people are selling and using drugs regularly in those places. So what's the difference?

I hate to make this a partisan issue, because its not, but Rave venues are blatantly favored by leftwingers. In such a right-wing state, where republicans ou who is to be surprised they issue a show of force the day before a protest against the president.
Hygro, if the Left in the US has been reduced to drug addled airheads who are either too young, or too stupid, too busy piercing themselves, getting tatoos and listening to lousy music, to actually go out and vote, then its little wonder democrats cant win a major election in this country, and a self evident goofball like Bush is President.

"Turn the music off now or I'll beat your ass" is not polite. Neither is having guns thrust in your face.
I don't really care if it's polite or not. The police were doing their jobs.

The event was 100% legal. Men and women were beaten, and cameras (video, cellphone, normal) were confiscated immediately.
I'd expect them to do just that because of the fact that those items could have contained footage of illegal actions.

There were no laws being enforced. It was a show OF force. Hardly anyone there was breaking the law.
If people were breaking the law and the police raided it, how can you say no laws were being enforced?

Sharpe, police using mean words doesn't much bother me but the Sheriff did say it was a 100% lie that any of them were using swear words.

This was a guilty until proven innocent situation. Nothing about the venue itself was illegal. There were howeve people doing illegal things there. Do police raid my school dances? No, but it usually contains 100 legit kids and 250 breaking the law. The dance itself is fine.

As I mentioned before, these things can be shut down with just 1 cop, one fire marshall, whatever, without conflict. It does not require 90 riot police dressed like soldiers.

1 cop can't do much if the ravers tell him to screw off. There were over 1000 people there. I don't think a few cops with their pistols can do much against a potential mob.

hygro, if all of what you do say is true, then I am deeply disturbed. I hope that this is not a signal of trends to come. The police (and this extends to SWAT) has the duty to serve and protect, not to purge and violate.

In all honesty however, the video shows nothing that is illegal on surface. however, the whole issue with the permits may still be.

@blindside, ravers are not thugs. They are accomodating and won't organize to tell the cop to buzz off. They know their's consequences and as Happy put it, ravers are quite like Hippies--except with one difference, they don't phsyically fight back, nor do they organize politically. As I stated before, big events like these HAVE been shut down with not even necesarily cops but a single fire marshal.

General Kill, as the story unfolds more and more, it seems very likely that the side I presented shows a far more accurate picture than the one presented by the authorities.
