Which leader shall I play in Replay #10?

PHI also isn't 100% standard play! Being able to create more and earlier GPs makes a great difference, I just see that in the current Spacerace I play again, it's just crazy to have an NE everywhere.

Next time I'll play Tokugawa, but then everybody's gonna say "eeeewww, he got Samurais, how unfair" :joke: .

This game is gonna be quite standard play, except that Quick makes it more difficult and more micro-intense, and SPI allows some moves, which would not be possible otherwise, but don't worry about Conqs. The time at which they're available is very short on that speed, and against Longbows, they're as good as normal Cuirrs. I understand what you mean with "strategies that depend on certain units" , that's the case with Incans, Romans, Egyptians or Persians, maybe Giggles too. All other leaders have well balanced UUs that either come too late, or aren't that much more powerful.

One recommendation or hope is that the videos don't have music. Not Civ's music, nor added music. One thing that does my head in when watching AZ's videos is the damn background music. I just want to focus on what the player says, and the game, and Civ's music is mostly annoying to my ears. I turn it off in my games for a reason. After listening to it for probably 100s of hours, it got old long ago.

I actually wanted to publish music and non-music versions of it, like I already did with my previous video.

Now my question, on which somebody may have an answer, is: What if one has a live recording that was sent on the radio, am I allowed to take that as background music? Because if not, I probably have to skip on the music version, because it's just impossible to find as much good free music as needed, and that would be really bad, because my taste of music is really good, as I listen to it all the time when playing CIV, and I also play three instruments and had music intensive course in highschool.
The music in CIV is really good, but it simply gets on one's nerves when having heard it a few hundred times.

This. If someone wants to listen to music while listening Seraiel explain the game, he/she can just listen to whatever he/she likes.

because my taste of music is really good

I do not understand what that means. It's a matter of taste, right?

I voted for Freddy for the extremely silly reason that he never wins and usually ends up a vassal. Going for the fast conquest I suppose means no Panzers though, darnit!

Go Freddy, Go...!

Have watched Kung Fury actually, at a party, so it was even better.

Only marginally more silly than your typical high-budget movie... They should have marketed Gravity and Jupiter Ascending as comedies - I laughed my heart out :rotfl:

Decision has fallen:

Replay #10 probably won't be a Domination / Conquest game, but a Spacerace for the Standard / Epic Slot held by WastinTime, which is the fastest non-Marathon-Spacerace ever played on Deity. The thinking behind this is, that I:
  1. Need to take advantage of that I'm well-rehearsed with Spaceraces through the current Gauntlet and my last game.
  2. WastinTime undoubtfully is the greatest player CIV ever had, and our bonds are tied to each other, with Replay #3, 4 and 5 being the quest to the highest highscore, for which I still owe him a payback because he beat my 3.6M soon afterwards with his 4.8M game.
  3. I have semester break, which is the only time in which I could even think about a project of that size. I need to get 200-300h of gaming down to 40-50h of video, which will require a lot of work.
I wanted to thank everybody that voted in the poll though, I've created 10k of maps with Isabella in the meantime, those will not go to waste, but one will become the map for another great game, maybe even another good video that'll require a lot less work.

I hope you all understand this, and are happy with the decision, as I'm guessing that there aren't many Spacerace-videos on Youtube :) . It'll also have HoF-gaming as a focus, so it'll be very very different to what you know from AZ or TMIT. My main intention with it is, to draw new players to the HoF, because more competition is always good, and HoF-gaming is a great way to get motivation for playing really well, for trying out new things and to play out of the box. HoF also helps finishing games where one already is in a winning position, so I'll show how much there's to learn, plan and discover then still, and at last, one never forgets any game one played for the HoF, which probably is the greatest thing of all.

I support this decision! :) 40 to 50 h video, wow, that's really huge! Crossing fingers that you can improve the finish date!

Thx :) . Should be possible, but possibly difficult. The 1500 AD Spacerace I played with Peter at last brought me to the idea to try. That game went really bad, really almost everything went wrong, until the very end, missed Oracle and GLH, missed SoL, many losses in war... I'll play a good leader, like Darius or Lizzy, so that alone already should shave off some turns of the finish-date, and then it's Epic and not Normal, which is a huge difference, even with the map being slightly larger. I'm sure, 13xx AD is possible.

:eek2:  :twitch: :faint:

Depending on map size, I tend to get about 5-600 maps per night.

I get up to 1.2-1.3k maps / night if the map-size isn't too extreme, and I generated for the game every night while I was still playing a different round. Never planned ahead with mapfinder before, but it's clearly the way to go, once you start your game, set up your next game, play 3+ Gold only in future ;) .

it's Epic and not Normal, which is a huge difference, even with the map being slightly larger. I'm sure, 13xx AD is possible.

You need a realistic goal so you know when and how to manage GP births and golden ages, etc. For example, when you know you have to beat 705 AD (see Major 137), it's easy to know when to trigger that last golden age.

People thought ~1100AD was about the best marathon space game you can expect to see. Then we all learned how to break 1000 AD. Some can break 800 AD. And at least one person can break 700 AD!

Epic speed should have the same shocking drop in finish date once someone puts up a serious game. The current leading game is an OCC-PA.

So let's estimate when you could finish...
Marathon takes ~440 turns. Of course you can't just divide by 2 and say Epic speed will take 220 turns since Marathon has several other advantages besides the turn scale.
However, I would expect that you could match the pace of a 500 turn marathon game. That means you should target T250.

That would be 1050 AD.
So I would say aim for 990 AD - T244. That may not be possible.
That game really would be epic!

I know you're going to say I'm crazy, but a 13xx AD epic game would only be trying to beat a 600 turn Marathon game. If you can't keep pace with a 500 turn game, at a minimum, you should expect to beat a 550 turn game.

That would be : 275 turns - 1275 AD
Good Luck!

I'm playing that game in which I beat bcool or STW to have a good game to compare to. Marathon comparisons aren't good imho, because of the lower unit-costs of it + all the Workerstealing, which is a lot more difficult, even on Epic. I've quite good experience with just taking the least fastest possible time as a guideline (so that would be 1480 AD) and then trying to do everything as well as possible. In my last game, that led to a more than 200y earlier victory date, even with tons of things going wrong. I'm sure it was almost the best that I could have gotten out of that game.

GPs are worrying me though. Earlier finishes means one needs the GPs a lot earlier too, because GAs are just OP compared to bulbs. I wonder if I'm making the right choice, with leaning towards Darius, because of Immortals. I unfortunately don't know yet, how competetive warring with Elephants is, I'm still against Axe-rushes, because I had such horrible losses in my last game (15 Axes for 3 cities) , and the losses were even realistic, meaning I didn't get bad RNG-results in the first war.

Thx for wishing me good luck :) .

I feel that as you move to faster speeds you must have faster units. That's how I became such a huge fan of HAs on normal

I agree with Seraiel here you cant make such direct comparison about game speeds.
Like mentioned above becouse of higher units cost and producion is lower becouse of lower workers count.
And a biggest reson for me is that window of opportunity for early rushesh is smaller if you know what i meen.
For expamle iam playing now this Space game on Large normal.
I picked biggest techers in game obv reason, and like Feudalism date is 1100BC/1000BC( offcourse not all have it), so window for HAs is realy small is hard to pull this out ( make it count how i want to) even then if have 3 cieties and 1 HA out around 1800-1700BC, just not enough producion.

Anyway good luck with game looking forward to see video

WT did chop off a bit to counter the unique Marathon advantages. Admittedly sub-1000AD may not be possible on Epic - but not many thought it was possible to beat 700AD either, and that has been done at least once. With new knowledge the goalposts have been moved, and I think pretty much every space game out there can be beaten now, perhaps with a lot.

Mara is ofc unique because it's easier to workersteal, wage war and units are cheap, but I'm sure some of the new knowledge and tactics can be employed to other settings too.

Fully agree with WT on faster moving units as the speed increases. There is a reason why Cuir rushes are so popular, and speed of movement is one of them. UU chariots and HA are great too.

I think WT posted about his love to HAs, because I questioned if Darius (Immortals) would be the right choice. I think he picked up my thought, that faster units would be very valuable on faster speeds, and would maybe be more valuable than the faster GPs.

Well i had more success with war chariots then with HAs, becouse they are cheaper :D and comes ealier with is v importand too, on crowdy maps ais start to stacking very very early

I beaten 9 cities ghandi with wc when i was trying RII, and could lib MT at 175AD.
I think that 10-12 cities and 1 AD cuirassiers are possible with RII on crowdy (14 ais) large terra map and N speed i definetly could do it but i missed oracle .
(and Oxfordand Music :D)
