It's more or less unnoticeable unless you know what you're looking for.

I've been using the new patch for some time and never noticed this change until I reread this thread. So unnoticeable that I didn't notice. But that's OK, because I voted no in the poll anyway.

I still think long names should be made standard

I still think that reading stuff like "Sixth Satrapy" on the scoreboard makes no sense.

Not 'noticeable'? Download the latest patch, mouse over the scoreboard, and actually look at what appears in the pop-up box. Unless you are being absent minded or distracted, you will certainly notice the long name.

Granted, it is not as prominent as when it is permanently displayed on the scoreboard (that's my default setting now) but the mouseover trick does do something: it makes the long name appear on the main screen whenever you want to see it.
I just meant that you probably wouldn't notice it unless you were looking for it... No need to attack me.

As I have explained to Panopticon, long names will now appear on the main screen even if you are looking for some other info from the scoraboard (namely, diplo attitudes, espionage ratio, or a brief description of opponents' stability). This certainly makes dynamic names more noticeable that they used to be in previous patches. (How is this 'attacking you'? cool down, man )

Is the text too small? Try increasing the font size (changing DPI should do the trick). Perhaps it's time to buy a [edited out by author] !

Titles such as the one you have mentioned make little sense anyway, regardless of whether they are displayed on the scoreboard or not. Fortunately, the text files can be easily edited to suit anybody's taste. I personally changed many of them (including 'Sixth Satrapy', which I have replaced with 'Persian Mesopotamia').

You missed the point of my post entirely. I don't want to see what I consider to be random (dynamic) names for civs. I just want to know that I am looking at Persia or Vikings or whatever. The fact that I didn't notice the dynamic names is in my opinion a good thing.

Apparently you are not able to see this for yourself. Your posts tend to include personal attacks, it is just a fact. You need to be able to see this for yourself though before you are going to be able to change it (if you are actually seriously interested in doing so).

Very well. But the fact that you didn't notice the names is also an indication that your font size might be too small. Hence, my suggestion to increase it. By doing so you may also notice other 'good things' that you hadn't noticed before.

That's false. I have never made a personal attack in any of my posts. Please address the arguments, not the arguer. I understand that you don't like dynamic names, but that's not a good reason to flame those who do, don't you think?

I guess you apparently cannot understand that telling someone to get glasses is not a personal attack. You simply have no idea it would seem.

My font size is fine and I can see just fine, thank you very much for your amusing posts though. Please keep the jokes coming.

Oh, no, by default, no - it's still a little bit too cluttered. Althrough I'd like to receive the *.py files with them on scoreboard as an option.

So, by default - no, as an option - yes.

agreed. 100% agreed.

I see. I forgot to add a smiley, my apologies for that. Since you appear to be sensitive on the matter of eyesight, I will immediately edit that remark out (which, by the way, was by no means meant to be taken seriously - the point being that if you hadn't noticed that visual change, you could have also missed others you might have liked).

Returning in topic: the fact that dynamic names are now discretely displayed on mouseover is, I think, meant to be a compromise solution to accommodate all tastes. Those who like the names can now see them on the main screen, those who don't can quietly pretend not to notice.
