Civilization: Spain
Speed: Standard
Type: Continents
Map: Standard
Difficulty: Warlord

This is a huge departure from 99% of my Civilization V games.
Even after beating the game on Deity once, I made my default difficulty Settler for the longest time, simply because I like burning ants with a magnifying glass.
It took me till this last year to finally work up to playing all games on Prince difficulty.
Moreover, most of my Civilization V games were on Small Pangaea maps.
Never once have I played a game not on Quick speed, even counting Civilization Revolution and Civilization 4.

What changed? Civilization VI is my most anticipated game since the Mass Effect series. It's the only game I've ever watched a Let's Play of (since there's no story to spoil).
Having watched dozens of hours of Let's Plays, I feel I've progressed in tactile acumen sufficiently to win consistently on Warlord, while still needing to utilize such tactics, instead of steamrolling as before.

Also, for my first game I'll be roleplaying as Outremer, renaming all of my cities after those in the Crusader-State. I really hope Jerusalem is one of the City-States in my first game.

First cities:
  • Acre (Capital)
  • Antioch
  • Edessa
  • Ascalon
  • Tripoli

I feel rather tempted to play a game as Rome first (on an easy difficulty level), as a learning game. But after that, probably only random civs for me.

I'll play as America. Because alle the abilities are either passive or trigger in the late game. So I have the most vanilla feeling in the first eras.

America has 2 twists. First, you need a bit of additional planning to get real bonuses. Second, you need to take continents into account while settling. But I agree with you, they look less than those of the other civs.

no one picks India and Ghandi :lmao:- looks like Rome, Random and America (USA for me) are the main choices...

Civ: 'Merica
Speed: Normal or possibly Epic
Map: Continents Standard Size
Difficulty: Warlord, Settler looks far too easy
Why? Tradition. I've always started every Civ game since Civ2 (never played Civ1) as America. Another tradition is I always go for the Space (or Science) victory.

First game Random and everything else at the standard! I don't know but, I kind love every Civ I saw. After the first random game I'll probably go with japan, or Brazil or Rome!

Uh, obviously the best Empire ever which you FAILED to show...>>> Rome!!

RTFM: :p
Unfortunately the poll options are restricted to 10, therefore there are 2 threads here...
Here is the other one:

(Random is "R" :p - Greece is ONE option because of restriction - otherwise I would end up at 21 )

At the time, due to the transition there was a limit of only 10. It has since been restored back to the pre-migration limit. It was in fact this set of polls (this one the A-G; and the other H-Z) that led to it being fixed.

I'm thinking of going for a relatively vanilla (no dramatically unqiue abilities/bonuses like Kongo, Arabia, or Norway) classical Mediterranean Civ. I think Cleopatra and Trajan will be more fun to play against, so I'll probably go with Pericles.

Greece (Pericles), standard speed, Continents map in the biggest size they've got, probably on a medium-low difficulty. Why? Because I always like to play a relatively straightforward, sandboxy-type game as my first map, to get used to the mechanics and experiment with all the new shininess. Huge map size because I'll expand as much as I can.

I wonder if things have changed here now that we've seen an abundance of some civs. I will still go random, but I might reroll if I get Greece or Rome...

Spain. It really looks unique, ability wise. But probably in my first weekend I'll play USA, England and France as well!

With civ V I didn't decide to try out achievements until I had already logged a lot of hours. I couldent remember which civs I had won with and which I hadn't. So I am going to go through Alphabetically in whatever order the civs appear (which appears to be by country name not leader). I also want to get all the difficulty level achievements so even though I am confident I could play my first game on King I will actually play my first game on the lowest difficulty and increase the difficulty each and every game until I lose (that will be the difficulty I will stay on for a while). I also want to attempt every victory type early on to get a feel for them all.

So my first games will be;
America, Settler, Culture Victory
Arabia, Chieftain, Religious Victory
Aztecs, Warlord, Domination Victory
Brasil, Prince, Science Victory
China, King,
