It seems I'm unfortunately one of those folks who is having massive troubles with Civ past the most recent patch. My game won't even start at all. I was finally able to download the new patch yesterday, and no matter which option I select (DX10/11 or 9), the screen goes grey and I get an error message that Civ is not working and will need to be closed until the problem is resolved.

I moved this weekend and have very spotty access to the internet at the moment, so this was a major disappointment. Sorry I can't provide more detail right now, but I don't have my laptop with me at work today. Any suggestions on how to proceed would be appreciated.

First verify the integrity of your files (Steam --> Library --> Right-click Sid Meier's Civilization 5 --> Properties --> Local Files --> Verify Integrity of Game Cache). Of course, that requires an Internet connection.

Additionally, posting your DXDIAG would help as well. Thanks!

Okay, internet is online. I verified my cache, and there were a couple of things wrong. Now, after the redownload, DX 9 is working, but DX 10/11 (which is "recommended") causes an immediate crash.

Here's my info:

Operating System: Windows 7 Home System Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601)
Processor: Intel Core i5-2410M CPU @2.30GHz (4CPUs), ~2.3Ghz
Memory: 6144 MB RAM
Name: Intel HD Graphics Family
Date: 4/4/2011 10:09PM

What other steps should I do? Are there other issues I should keep an eye out for?

The "recommended" appears there, independent of your hardware.
It's shown as "recommended", because it will look better, but does not take into account if your hardware is even capable of running it.
Since you have an Intel graphics card, I'd say it's rather NOT recommended to use DX11.

For Intel Hd Graphics, I would definately recommend you update the driver to the October 2012 release. This has corrected most issues for most Intel HD Graphics users.

Hmmm. I never had an issue with it before the patch, though.

Okay, I'll look into how to do this. Thanks for your help, Dennis. I know I appreciate how active you've been on the boards since the release of the patch.
