Bullsh*t Mr M, they even tried to put forth Israel is racist, because ZIONISM is racist,

and it often is, at least what the press portraits as Zionism. i can vividly remember people who called tehmselves Zionist on TV shouting 'Death to all Arabs!' repeatedly. Understandable as such anger may be after a terror incident, the other side will play the good/bad game, too, so don't blame them for it!

When was the last time the US has publicly critizised Israel for their repeated violations of human rights such as blocking roads to ambulances?

NOT ONCE would they condem Arrafat, yet they lauched NUMEROUIS tirades vs Israel.
Only too true, as we never comdem the other side...

Don't try to play games, and here is a moderator warning:

Moderator Action: The next poster who insults me with a "Are posting as a modertor " coment will be banned a week.

Racism exists everywhere.

Anyone who states that they have never uttered some form of profane oath
geared towards the detriment of another race is telling porky pies, in my view.

PS
This thread has went to hell since my last visit!

:(

I haven't and I imagine the vast majority of the users on this forum haven't either (unless they like to sing along to gangsta rap songs).

Nonsense. Americans, Germans, French et al have also shouted racist slogans.

When was the last time the US has publicly critizised Israel for their repeated violations of human rights such as blocking roads to ambulances?

Insignificant. Those who are in the weak position - are ciriticsized.
Those who are in the strong position - criticsize.
Israel is in the heart of a moot conflict, one that cannot be handled by keeping human rights untouched.
That's unfortunate, but that is reality.
US Criticism of Israeli policies is lip service.

You never did? Never? Ever?

You get the Nobel peace prize then, my friend. The rest of us certainly do have a dark side, and those who now back war in Iraq seem most likely to have known those sentiments and wear them most unashamedly.

@Curt- when was this thread not in hell?

It only went to hell Curt, because some people ALWAYS try to link Israel with ANY action by the UN or in the Middle East.

No, why would I? I am usually not in a situation where racially slurs are necessary.

No thanks I have my reputation to think of.

Dark side does not equal a racism side.

Sultan Bhargash have you ever uttered a racial slur? If so, why?

My bad.

Go U.N.! Save the Middle East! :)

@Mr. President. I have indeed uttered racial slurs, - in my youth, because I was raised by racist white catholic republicans, in my older age, because I enjoy singing along with gangster rap.

I think that the palestinians are wrong to use suecidebombers but I dont think that Isreal are by any mean the good guys.. They have no rights so what ever to their "country"..

The UN just took Land from the palestinians and gave it to the "poor" jews... (not that i am anti semmitic in any way so what ever....) Now that the plastinians are the "main victims" the UN dont give a sh*it....

BTW: why did we even begen to talk about israel in this thread anyway???

Just a bunch of negative nancy's.:D

But hasn't the US put pressure on Israel at various times. To withdraw it's occupations?

Sure they could proably do more, but relationships with allies are always a tricky thing.

Plus just guessing here but wasn't the US a major factor in getting israel not to respond to scud attacks in Gulf Episode I.

And US-Israeli relations have in the past not been so friendly. Wasn't it back in the late 80's when somebody (can't remember their name) working in the US gov/mil, passed on Nucleur secrets to Israel. Some form of allied esponiage and siting in jail for life now?

Can't we just get a no confidence motion in Kofi. Then elect senator 'I  Democracy' Palpatine in his place. Then the UN would work!

lol

I think it might be a good idea to simply create "THE IRAQ THREAD" as the only place to discuss Iraq and make it a stickie- as I am currently straddled with multiple Iraq threads all sort of drifting off topic.

Let's not co-opt this as an Israel/Palestine thread. Ultimately the topic of debate has nothing to do with what the US did in Gulf War one, what Israel does to Palestine or vice versa, or what the French did to anyone. This thread is called "Powells Case to the UN" and I hope we can get back to serious discussion of that- never mind that it seems that most of us are pretty steadfastly set in one stance or another on this. I'd still LOVE to be convinced, so I could stop feeling like a wierdo...

My thoughts exactly...

Now, everybody....let's get back to the task of convincing Sultan its not too late to stop thinking like a wierdo. ;)

It's rather simple to stay on topic if you try.

We all drift, but the Powell speach is simple, either your convinced or your not.

I believe at this point a lot of people REFUSE to be convinced, well, what can you do?

Let me put it this way, Sultan ...

1) After hearing Powell's case to the UN, are you convinced that Iraq is not co-operating with the UN weapons inspectors?

2) If your answer above is yes, does this constitute a breach of resolution 1441.

3) If your answer above is yes, then shouldn't the UN take action to enforce its own resolutions, to send a clear message to the world that UN resolutions actually mean something.

4) If your answer above is yes, what action should be taken?

Note that I am not offering any answers to these questions. I haven't heard Powell's case, nor am I familiar enough with resolution 1441. More importantly though, my opinions are irrelevant to your decision about the war. But I do suggest that you explore these questions yourself, and seek to find your own answers.
