Yeah I agree with Tyrs about Immac's system. Allowing the player to design the spells lets the mod keep things balanced but still gives the player a lot of free reign and room for creativity.
It also adds an extra layer of strategy, you can quite often know most of the spells your opponent is likely to use against you and you can then plan accordingly, including possible ways to counter such an attack in your battle orders.
i have some basic guidelines i follow -like;
1) i know how strong a summon should be approximately...
2) i know how much damage a direct-damage spell should do approximately
3) i have an idea of what the indirect-effects should be limited by (this is harder to do though because obviously good conditions can make the spell very useful and bad conditions can render it nigh useless)
the thing that is fun is the way the spells, units and other factors (defence) act together, sometimes extremely synergistically- i have one player (who will remain nameless) that has very good synergy for his spells and other factors... i want to say more but i won't...
Cool!
Do you have most of the guidelines/rules posted anywhere? They would really help with understanding what exactly is happening in your NES. This is getting off topic though...
no- not posted anywhere... its one of those 'behind the scenes' things.
the first page of my nes has all the rules... the thing thats probably confusing is that the stats are all secret - each player gets an excel sheet with their stats in it and those are hidden... so its hard to relate what is happening to the nation's growth...
you are right-this is off-topic- please feel free to post in our NES's thread though...
I need a location for your first city (within your starting region) and a capital name from all the players over the next two weeks or so. The sooner the better. In game terms the location of your city wont matter hugely, but I expect some people would want to be able to choose.
Please post them in the thread or PM them to me asap.
If I don't build my capital on the coast, will that hurt me in getting ports/harbour improvements later on?
If it hurts, I'll put it on the river mouth on the coast and call it Jubilee
If not, it'll be upper on the river, at the confluence of the two uppermost rivers, that is a bit east of the dot right of the 27 and call it Confluence Fair.
No, absolutely not. The buildings that are available depend on the location of the region, not the the location of the city. You can assume that the port of an inland city is actually in a smaller port town related to the city. Like I've said before, settlements only really represent the largest of the towns and cities in the region.
Cities with long names may need to have them abbreviated on the map, trying to keep things vaguely tidy here. The full names will still be there in the stats, and whenever they are mentioned in the updates.
Natongosmat, with location (approximate; move as you see fit) marked in the attached.
EDIT: Moved it upon brief contemplation.
EDIT 2: If you're wondering, it's from Dwarf Fotress' language. Specifically it's Goblin for "Despairheart." I'll be using them for naming purposes, because... well, look at that name! "Natongosmat." Don't ya love how it rolls off the tongue? The whole language is like that.
As Immaculate's NES has unfortunately come to a (hopefully temporary) end, I will be trying my hardest to get EkoNES up and running as soon as possible. My last exam is on Wednesday, and then after this it should only take a couple of days to get EkoNES ready to begin - so you can expect it to start within the week, probably Sunday to let Algeroth get back from where ever he is.
Slight changes to the OP's with new rule changes and clarifications.
Does anyone good with excel know how I could make the cost for workforces increase as the percentage of population employed as workforces increases, so that buying new population decreases workforce cost? Just an idea I'm playing with.
