pre-SKNES

Looks good. What will turn year limits be? If it is going to be 10 years or so Ruler will probably be fine, but anymore and just a Dynastic name would probably work better.

So, are the Crusaders gonna create a social group to plan our attack, or are we all just gonna charge mindlessly and turn this into even more of a bloodbath? I'd do it myself, but I'm not quite sure who all's involved in the operation.

Just going to note the interesting juxaposition compared to real life.

In Real Life, the Byzantines are embattled constantly with Muslims, Pagans, and Heretics while the Catholic West captured one Orthodox base after another and converting them.

In SKNES the Catholic west are embattled constantly with Muslims, Pagans, and Heretics while the Orthodox West sought to capture Catholic bases and converting them, conveniently ignoring the Muslims (who are also ignoring them.)

In Real Life it was the Byzantines who roused the Catholics to fight the Muslims, and they succeeded. The Muslims were pushed back and they worked together for a while before economics made it fall apart.

In SKNES it was the Axumites who roused the Catholics to fight the Muslims. Meanwhile, the Byzantines are essentially protecting the Muslims by standing between the Catholics and their target.

This is not mentioning Hellenicism or other things, and focusing on the more weird "Nearly but not quite" events going on. The most weird *I* find is the lack of Muslim Raids into Anatolia, which were nearly ceaseless IRL. IN the same fashion, lack of inter-religious raiding over the Pyrenees (before official peace treaties), and the lack of intrareligious, and especially intersect, warfare.

Terrance, are you saying nothing about Forn Sidr since so far we have been playing by the rules? :P
When I flipped religion, 13 Brythonian kings with their armies were annihilated in a bloody and brutal 14 sided civil war and Catavalu also fell to the battle hardened veterans of the war of religion. :) Brythonia just finished recovering.

Yeah. The Zengid Emirate and the Roman Empire were pretty much allies when you started the Crusade. Me converting to Orthodoxy didn't tear me from previous engagements, so the alliance still stood. That said, I considered joining the crusade on both sides, but let's face it, any attack on the Holy Land was doomed to fail. The Muslims had more crossbowman to defend it then the Catholics had swordsman to attack it. So I conveniently took advantage and joined the stronger side.

The following is a preliminary list of countries that will open up for the BT, and therefore, Part 2. However, this is not a final list - it may change.

Aztecs (4th BT)
Incas/Quechua (5th BT)

You might be okay, but Taman is screwed. :p

Heh. Mongols were actually part of the reason I backed out of switching to the Abbasids when Sicily got conquered. I realized I'd have to deal with them and that I'd most likely just get steamrolled again. Either way, Middle East is gonna have a heck of a lot of fun when the BTs begin. Gonna be everything but boring, it seems.

I wish the Mongols would come now. Then we pretty much wouldn't have to worry about anything. Everyone east of Constantinople and Germany is pretty much screwed.

Dude. Yes you would. You'd have to stop them.

No we don't. We can go further what we did IRL- convert them. There was a semi-alliance/coalition going on, and the leader of that front was considering converting to Christianity before he got defeated near Egypt.

Poland what? They retreated from there because the Khan died. And besides, I was talking about their invasion of Egypt, not Poland.

Oh god the Mongols. I'm going to die SOOOOOO BAD.
EDIT: No Mali?

Mali rose to power in the 1200s. In reality, i don't know what I'm going to end up doing with West Africa yet.

Actually, Poland stopped their advance, as well as their own interests in trade.

Poland actually got pwn'd by the Mongols (as did Hungary two days later) and it was Ogodei Khan's death that compelled the ensuing succession crisis compelled the guy leading the Mongol army in Eastern Europe to head back to Asia. basically what Terrance said. The Catholics actually tried (and failed) to ally with the Mongols, which is what you're probably thinking of?

Ghana is there before Mali.

From what I read, the alliance failed when Hugalu returned due to succession crisis and the half-army he left behind got pwned by the Muslims before they can connect with the Catholics.
