Pre-turn discussion

i think becoming dominant in the world market will ensure peace for us, so we should try and secure all deals to do with luxuries as long as it doesnt affect our deal with MIA

Here is Strider's thread about the Gallic War. Everyone should be looking at that thread. If there are any new team members out there who have just been lurking, now is the time to start posting. We need all the brainpower we can get for this one!

Here are some questions we need to answer before playing turn 118:

1) Should we abandon Furbomb? (The Galls can take it no matter what. Do we want to give them the pleasure of capturing it. This would tie up one unit of theirs. Also, it might flip back eventually.)

2) Should we sell the library in Furbomb. (We'd net 10g. It can be sold even if we do not abandon the city.)

3) Should we waste 69 shields in Dancing Banana to produce a military unit next turn? (Alternatives are switching to a market which would complete next turn without wasting shields or continuing with the Great Library pre-build.)

4) Should we switch to pikes, horse, immos or a mixture of these? (We have three cities threatned next turn: Unabomb, Dynopolis and Dancing Banana. This question is especially important for vbraunopolis and Fort Incendiary. They can both produce a regular military unit next turn without rushing. Only horsemen could help the threatened cities. Note that horse have a 30 chance to beat a Gallic swordsman when attacking and only 5% chance of winning if attacked. Immortals have a 6% chance on the attack but only 20% when defending.)

5) Where should we rush units? (Since pikes, horse and immos are all 30 shields the rushing costs are the same for each. We have 313g and can get 10g from Furbomb's library. Rushing ilitary units in Dynopolis, Unabomb and Provobomb to defend the threatened cities will cost 220g. We'd be able to rush one more unit this turn.)

6) How should we move our remaining forces? (For example we have a worker near Furbomb that can't move. There is a pike next to the worker. Do we defend the worker or leave the worker as bait to hold up a swoard for a turn?)

7) What should our diplomatic stance be towards the Iroqi? (We could establish an embassy for 40g. That would allow for an alliance and/or RoP if we wanted to pursue either.)

8) What about the Greeks? (Do we put pressure on them to attack the Galls? If so, how? Try to convince them that the Galls must be weak at home if they sent such a large force over here? What kind of assistance should we ask for, in addition to chivalry? An embassy with Greece would cost 88g.)

9) What about the Galls? (Do we ask for peace terms yet and try to buy our way out of this? How much effort should we put in to keep them from starting their Golden Age and/or getting a leader?)

10) What about the lux setting? (We'll lose furs but I think we have war happiness right now. Should we be trying to buy wines from the Nutters?)

here are my suggestions to the questions donsig poses:

1) yes, we shouldn't let the Galls get their hands on our city.

2) yes, if we're going to abandon the city, we might as well make some money back from the time spent building the lib.

3) no, i think we should stick with the GL prebuild. i still think we should build the GL, even with the KISS threat.

4) build a majority of pikes and equal numbers of horses and Immortals. pikes will save our cities in the short term, while Immortals can be used for quick counterattacks and horses will be upgraded to high powered knights once we get chivalry from MIA.

5) rush as many units as our treasury will allow.

6) leave the worker for dead, it will hopefully distract a Gallic for a turn. we should move 3 pikes in the north towards Horsebomb, they'll be able to defend the city next time we get the save.

7) try to be nice with them, but don't build an embassy. we need the cash for unit rushes and future knight upgrades. what we need to do is keep the peace with them while not giving up anything to do so. (we have a 5 turn buffer, due to the peace extension, to prepare anyway, in case they do declare to coordinate with KISS)

8) we ask the Greeks to sign an military alliance with us (which we already did), but it would be informal since we can't afford an embassy right now. tell them that they would not be in a good position if we were destroyed, but if they attack now, they can get lots of KISS territory 'cause the KISS army is on our continent.

9) Galls obviously planned this attack and won't give up attack unless we give them everything we have probably. we shouldn't give in to them. i say we send tauntin messages to them and insult them via PMs, to show we're not afraid. :smug:

10) i don't know about the lux setting, i guess it could be lowered from war happiness, but if we lose a city we might get hit with war weariness.

As donsig showed in the other thread i feel were going to have to abandon horsebomb as well, selling the things inside that,

1) We should abandon it to avoid the WW we'll get when the galls capture it.

2) Sell the library and abandon the city, for same reason as with Furbomb.

3) Continue with the GL pre-build, as we have to do according to our deal. We need the Greek's assistance right now, and breaking our deals is a bad way to get them to help us.

4) We should focus mostly on immortals, and use our roads to gain the advantage of being the attacker. A few pikes might be needed to defend Dancing Banana.

5) Rush them in cities that are subject to capture within the next few turns.

6) The pike will make better use defending one of our other cities and the worker works excellent as bait for one of their GS.

7) No embassy is needed. I don't think they'll agree to anything like an MA, and our gold is better spent elsewhere.

8) Try to make attack the galls ASAP. This is crucial if we want to have any hope of surviving the gallic invasion.

9) I suggest we don't talk to them to make them think we are strong enough to repel their invasion and don't need to negotiate peace.

10) As long as we have WH we shouldn't need to buy any wines and the lux setting will be fine at 0%.

I'll have to play the save tonight. Here's what I plan to do. This is taken from your answers posted here and comments made in other threads. If I've gotten something wrong or something should be added, please post it here quickly. :)

Sell the library in Furbomb then abandon the city.
Abandon Horsebomb. (Nothing there to sell.)
Switch Dancing Banana over to immortal, foregoing the extra 69 shields.
Switch all other cities over to immortals except Provolution, Semtex and vbraunopolis which will make pikemen.
Rush the units in Unabomb, Dynopolis, Provolution and Shilhanopolis.
Move units towards out threatened cities, leaving a minimal force in the south.

Will not send engineering to the Greeks since we're still trying to negotiate for gold.

I think that covers it. If there are any objections to any ot these please post the objection in the next couple hours.

Is it our go now?

Yes it is! I'll be playing the turn in about seven or eight hours (unless you all think we need an extension). Here's the area where we can see some Galls:

Our stack has a 4/4 vet and a 3/3 reg pike, 3 3/3 reg imm, a 3/4 vet imm and a 5/5 elite imm. There's another 3/3 imm with a 3/3 pike just north of the old Unabomb site. I suggest we place our stack on the old Horsebomb site since we could add two pikes. Not sure if that's the best thing to do since the Galls could attack our pikes and run. Since there's no road on the old Horsebomb site our immotals wouldn't be able to attack if the Galls run. We need to get a worker there. Need suggestions on how to proceed. We are weak compared to KISS. We're paying 50 gpt in unit support costs. IF we want to switch production in Semtex we'd need to do it this turn.

EDIT: Our settler is out west, about five turns from the site we selected on the west coast. Shoud we send him there or move him back east to try to resettle one of our abandoned cities? I'm leaning towards moving him east. We have enough forces inthe area now to defend cities we rebuild.

we should send our settler back east, we need to rebuild our core. also, i think we should stick with the Immortal build in Semtex and follow it with a settler.

Keep the settler heading west, theres no need to change it, planting it where we originally were going ot plant it isnt going to have a huge impact on us in terms of corruption. Theres no point wasting time turning him about and sending him back.

Think we should rush the immortals in dancing banana and dyanopolis and possibly in grenadeopolis.

the one we do in grenadeopolis we should leave on that iron next turn because there is a chance that one of them swordsmen may turn around and try and disconnect it.

Heal the weakened immortal and move the rest of them onto the rubble with the pikeman, that way if they dont run we can attack next turn, starting with their elite if possible.

Can move that pike south east of dyanopolis somewhere useful now as well not sure where, maybe back down south. the rest of the pikes we should array in defensive positions against the galls.

The Iroqi have two mounted warriors and a settler near our gems:

The Galls are still sitting tight:

I'll be playing the turn tomorrow morning, about an hour or two before our deadline. It would cost 136 gold to rush the library in Fort Carbonperoxides and 124 gold to rush the library in Fort Incendiary. I'd like to hear your thoughts on doing either of these rushes. I think we should get libraries in these cities eventually (and rather soon). The Greeks sent another installment of 40g so we're up over 400 gold right now.

The settler is heading back east to help rebuild our core. Should we start another settler yet?

Our worker canmove to the tile directly south of the hill. I suggest we do that and move our stack there as well. Next turn we move them onto the old Horsebomb site to rebuild the road.

Anyway, these are my suggestions.

move the stack onto the hill and build a road on the hill as you'll get a bonus from defence, can move that worker north west of the stack onto the hill so it gets done at the same amount of time.

why has the pike in vbraunopolis been damaged?

we should build a library in Fort C and a settler in Semtex. i agree with BCLG, we should move our stack onto the the hill tile. we also need to attack the GSs soon, in the next turn or 2. we can't let them land more troops and gain a foothold, we need to kill off all the Gallics on our continent before they send over more troops.

Build a settler in Semtax and move in to re-build our cities. Move as many immortals and pikemen onto that hill. With some luck that will force the gallic swordsmen to leave that tile next.

Move atleast one immortal and the fortified pikeman near dynopolis onto the forest west of the gallic swordsmen. See if we can force him to move also.

Also, change Carpetbomb and grenadepolis to gallies. We have plenty of immortals pumping out, and it might be time to prepare for an invasion of the K.I.S.S homeland. We might even beable to surprise them by sending over acouple early and causing some trouble.

Even with Semtax, Carpetbomb, and grenadepolis not producing Immortals.. we still have 5 high-production cities pumping them out.

@BCLG: We need all the help we can get. What can you do as minister of war? Can you draw up warplans for us? Get to it if you can! :)

@ Strider: I played the turn before I saw your post. I did move onto the hill, but didn't move into the forest. That pike and immortal are on the hill near Grenadopolis protecting our northern flank. I did queue up a settler in Semtex. We'll have new vet immortals in DB and Dynopolis next turn. I queued up a worker in DB after that immortal - it'll only take one turn. We need to make some workers in these big core cities to use up some of that food and keep those cities from getting too big. I suggest we add new workers to our outlying cities to increase their population. We need more cities.

The settler we currently have will be in Dancing Banana next turn. From there it can move to the old Horsebomb site (or where ever we choose to rebuild. The stack on the hill will be able to protect the rebuilt city.

if we are moving that settler back west then we need to plant it on the coast, if we are planning on taking this fight to KISS then we are going to need a city on that coast so we can have a loading point and build galleys etc.

We should build another settler in semtex and then switch to barracks, we need to be producing vet immortals and not regular ones.

I dont think we should be adding workers to outlying cities, we need to cultivate the tiles first, there has been barely any work done on irrigation, mines etc on any of our cities other than roads to important luxuries.

That warrior south east should be used as a scout start sending it east, possibly through the forest though to try and avoid the immediate gaze of the swordsmen.

There are 2 things the galls are doing here.

Either them swordsmen there are a rearguard and there trying to get off our continent or they are making another drop off of units, either way we dont need 2 of our cities producing galleys just yet, when the time comes to attack we can start rushing the galleys. id much rather have units with not enough galleys than the other way round.

Plus they are on the wrong side of our continent if we're going to be attacking the Galls.

There's also not really much point in sending over a couple of galleys with one or 2 units in, just a waste of manpower that could be used in the main attack.

That pike that is south east of grenadeopolis should start moving south east through the forest as a sort of reconassaince unit.

Change tourosopolis and and fort carbondewhatever it says to something other than immortals, having a couple of regular immortals in twenty or so turns really isnt much help. Change the fort to walls and the other one to a worker.

Any little grey dots we need to especially be mining, for instance especially the one east of dyanopolis, extra production!

I dont think we should be wasting our money which is needed on the war effort right now but if we are then we should do it for carbonderixes, the other one can wait.

We need to decide also what we are going to be doing once we've killed these swordsmen, taking the attack to KISS or just trying to get a peace treaty???

we should definitely take the fight to the KISS homeland, we gotta kill off some of their cities, as vengeance for Furbomb, and Horsebomb, and Unabomb. i agree with BCLG, we shouldn't build gallies yet. we should focus on Immortals and pikes and workers. we should build a settler in Semtex now, instead of having it on queue. also, switch our southern jungle cities from Immortal builds to something more useful, like workers or walls. also, don't add workers to outlying cities to boost their pop, that's just wasting workers. we need them to do tile improvements, especially roads and mines.
