premature "first game" discussion

-Spain, of course.
-Default number of Civs and City States, in order to understand how long are turn times.
-Default speed, to understand the new pace.
-Emperor to learn the ropes.
-Continents, since it seems some agendas and uniques will work better on that map type.
-Random rivals, of course.

With we've got so far I would probably start with China or Egypt on Prince mode, Earth map.
Now speculating, I would love to play with Brazil too, assuming that they're in the main game!

I really thought I was going to start with Egypt, but then they revealed China. I guess I am too afraid to go against China losing wonders to them (and I like the AI civs to be random). So I guess I will be China. I like their unique unit as it is further up the tech-tree than Egypt (so I don't have to focus that much on military early on) and because of the Great Wall improvement. I really want to try that out.

I will play on normal difficulty, standard map, continents, and probably reload until I have a desert tile near my capital. I want those Pyramids!

I will go standard speed (usually I play epic) to get a feel of the mechanics and to have the probably best balanced speed on day 1. Same reason for standard map size (usually I go as huge as possible). Standard everything for a start. Concerning the civ: *hmmh* that's a tough one. So far I would go for random leader and see what they give me. That is subject to change though... Being German it's always tempting to start with them for me, but I like to play them in the second game this time... I'm quite sure I will sink a few hours into my first try, I even might enable the tutorial again... ;)

First game is usually some genericish civ on a very easy level, to get used to how the buttons work and what does what. After some turns of that, give up and start something more "real." I think I like Egypt so far.

I'll Probably go for the earliest historical civ in the game. Hopefully Sumer. I just really like that feeling of really starting out as a cradle of civilisation and a civ which really reflects that makes it even better. I'm hoping the early game gives that feeling. I felt it a lot more in IV than in V.

Most likely I'll start with the easiest difficulty and China, just to see all the wonders and learn the differences to Civ V. Then switch to hardest difficulty - I hope I won't win my first "real" game.

My first game will be either America or . . . whichever leader comes first alphabetically (depending on whether they sort the selection screen by civ name or by leader name). Then I'll go right down the line until I've tried them all. Then I'll probably go Random.

I always start a new Civ game playing Romans. They kind of set the mark for Empires historically. Settler level so I can totally explore as many of the game mechanics as possible. I will raise the difficulty until I can beat Emperor and then flip the random civ switch on to explore the available civs. Quick pace, Small map, and Continents as that is my preferred game mode.

Of the revealed ones, Japan.

Of the unconfirmed ones, Scythia.

If I was forced to choose from available Civs I'd say America because they're fairly neutral in flavor and the continents bonus will give me some slack if I neglect to build a viable military.

I'll play on normal difficulty.

I really want this play the map and play the cards given to you method, so I'll go down what ever rabbit hole they give me in a role play sense. If I'm by a coast and I get a bonus to seafare, I'll go down that rabbit hole. If I snowball into a religion, I'll go down the hyper religion route.

My subsequent game I'll want to play with some of the specialist civs to try out every victory, for instance The Aztec in a domination victory

I want to start off which the most vanilla civ available on release, on normal difficulty (prince?) to learn the basics, or maybe a defensively oriented one. A boring answer, but I can explore the exiting ones and appreciate their uniqueness more once I have the basics. My first game will be on the largest map possible. I'll be VERY aware of the turn timer; the timer in Civ V was and is terrible; Civ VI better be a hell of a lot better.

Normally, I would go all random, except for lowest difficulty, largest map, slowest speed. This time around, I am using the Achievements list as my guide. Taking the first civ, map type, game speed, level, etc. listed in the Achievements.

Thanks for this thread! I really wanted to ask the same thing but felt it was too early.
So far, I have NO IDEA. I liked all of the civs (Egypt pumped me the least, but still looks exciting), so I guess I'll have to go random. Let's wait for Brazil to be revealed, though.

Of the leaders so far, I'm probably going to play America as they look like a good choice for a cultural player like me. :)

Tangent: I wish they would make the difficulty level achievements cumulative so you get the achievements for all the lower difficulty settings as well after winning a game.

On topic: I'm leaning towards China...excites about their builder bonus and very intrigued by the Great Wall tile improvement.
