Can someone please point to me the difference between the two editions.
How about the official Take2 website (www.civiv.com) where it says:
Customers pre-ordering from these authorized retailers will receive the special Pre-Order Edition of Civilization IV. This edition includes a collector's case, CD soundtrack, keyboard foldout, tech tree map, disc holder and more. The Pre-Order Edition is available via pre-order only and at the same suggested retail price of the regular (mini-box) edition of Civilization IV. Customers at brick and mortar retailers should confirm at the time of pre-ordering that the Pre-Order Edition is continued to be offered, as it is being produced in limited quantities

I'm getting the preorder special edition, but I really don't care what comes with special edition I just want to get the game.

Will buy the game after week or two after release.

I pre-ordered the special edition from Gamestop for $50, added $16 shipping to the UK and got the all-singing-all-dancing edition for slightly more than if I'd bought it from a shop here. (aprox £35):D
I want that tech tree!
I've had bad experience with play.com... even the £17.99 wasn't enough to tempt me!
Also I'm not going to let the patches fiasco affect me the way it did with vanilla Civ3 and PTW... US edition from the start this time.:crazyeye:

100th Post!  :band: :band: :woohoo: :woohoo:

I'm going to buy it from EB Games first day I can, probably Veterans Day.:aargh: :aargh:

Does ne1 know if Amazon will be offering the "preorder" Edition AFTER the release?

i.e. if I decide to purchase CIV IV from Amazon, say a week or two after the initial release, will I still be able to get the "bundled" package?

Thanks

You can get pre-order as long as the stock lasts. There's no number of items published. Obviously, the idea of the pre-order edition is that you pre-order it before it hits the stores. I wouldn't count on the ability to buy the pre-order edition two weeks after the game is released. Although you may natrally get lucky. After all, I doubt they're going to destroy the nice pre-order boxes just because the game came out :)

I went for the Amazon pre-order special, twice. First at the $49 and then at $44 after I cancelled the first one. You would think Amazon could have just updated my order and save themselves the bookkeeping expense. I'm having it sent to my mother in the States and she's going to send it to me in Southeast Asia. I hope it's not stolen along the way or on arrival. I hope to get it by December. Long after the rest of you have conquered the world several times over. To make it worse, my internet connection is too slow to play online. I guess I should be grateful I have internet at all.

Just be sure its well packed.. alot of civ fans around :p

I see you haven't accounted for uk VAT or the fee charged by the delivery company for collecting and 'processing' the added tax? You'll be lucky to get it for less than £50 in total. ;)

Pre-ordered special edition.

If you pre-order the special edition on Amazon can one in Australia get it? Where do they send it to your home?

I pre-ordered 4 copies (for friends and I) of the pre-order ed. from EBgames.com, with shipping it ends up being ~$AU 81 for each copy.

I just went to the Amazon site to pre-order Civ...

but the shipping options only offer 3-5 standard shipping option...

has anyone else ordered this with the 2 day option?

Paid for the preorder special edition through my local Gamestop. I was told specifically by them that I'd get a free upgrade to the collector's edition for Civ IV ordering through them...so I did.

Fine by me...

The US site said there was no sales tax... guess VAT is a bummer but I think it's worth it for this game. I only buy 1-2 games/year and then play them to death. (not Civ tho!)

I just wish that games companies would realise that they have customers in countries other than the US!

Why not offer the pre-order edition to UK customers? I'd even pay a bit more for it!
