PreSLNES I: Masters of Ethereal

Could you clarify a bit what you mean by combatant/noncombatant mount?
I understand noncombatant as a mount that is not used actively in combat. So a horse or poney for an archer would be noncombatant whereas a warhorse which is used to charge the enemy would be combatant. Is that correct?

This is how my guy looks

I'm interested in joining, but can I get confirmation on what is going on with magic maintenance? For example, do DE units with skilled magic pay magic upkeep (it is free, so perhaps maintenance is also 0?)

No it is only free in terms of gold. Mana costs do not get discounted by advantages, neither does mana maintenance.

Well, that's a huge limiter then at the beginning of the game. For example, you basically can start with a "maximum" of 5 skilled magic units. For a race like DE or HE, where they get benefits for having skilled magic units, seems a little tough.

It does provide balance though. Sure all your units could use magic but that is going to hamper your Wizard's ability to cast more powerful spells. Create a couple of magical units and then design your third unit to be a regular unit. Or else accept you are going to have to expand fast in order to fuel your army. Finally gold will be the biggest limiter at the start of the game, as you have no gold income to start with. If the DE didn't pay mana costs as well, when everyone else does, the game would be horrifically unbalanced in their favour. This way it is not.

Massive Attack, without the mana maintenance cost, all dark elf units would get the skilled magic trait, whereas most units of other races don't get any discount, or a partial discount, so it's far more balanced this way.

What they said about the Dark Elves. Massive Attack: What kind of race are you thinking at this point? Anyway, welcome aboard. Ask any other Qs if you have them. Everyone is happy to answer.

@LDi: What you said is correct, to me as well. Noncombatants are not actively used in combat, but they can still have fast movement speeds to get around the battlefield or perhaps travel long distances. Just that the mount is not what is used in actual battle (effectively). So for Beastmen, this translated to perhaps a regular Centaur vs a Centaur covered in armor or something.

Are my units and magic Ok?

They look good. Remember you can also recruit the default Beastmen unit. So happy to have a Beastmen player... I think they are an interesting choice.

I was tempted by all of them Starlife. I just chose the High Elves because they were one which hadn't been done yet and I had some interesting ideas for them.

Notes:
4 more spots open. Then we're closed here. But as is, we have enough players to have a great game. Hopefully we can get more. :)

Unrepresented races: Halflings, Gnolls. I am happy we have the majority of races represented here. A good combination of players.

I changed one of my UUs to a Longboat. I forgot to update the description though.

After due consideration, I am announcing a Halfling race. I will tinker with my ideas and post it soon.

To come: Wardens, Flowing Hedgehogs, And more!

No, not necessarily. What site did you upload it to and are you using a different web-browser to before?

Out of interest can anyone else see erez's image, because I can't.
