Greadius, I think we just need to give up. We have gone from undemocratic to un-American. Inhumane can only be lurking behind a nearby corner.

I don't see why Pellakan is so concerned with someone running for office anyway. Shouldn't he be pushing for an absolute direct democracy where the entire population can vote on every issue? Anything less is undemocratic! Let's let the entire populace hammer out the terms of our next trade agreement. Direct vote on the proper deployment of the nation's military!

if some 4 year old from zire wants to run for congressman from california, then why should we stop him? if he is the person the people want, to stop them from choosing so, is, frnakley, un-american

Right. You have finally flipped out completely. This descends from the realm of extreme liberal democratic foolishness into the underworld of the truly strange. Igor! The straight-jacket! :D
Limits to terms of political office work in some circumstances and systems. The lack of them in Australian politics does not seriously hamper or effect anything.
The two party system is a proper, simple way of conducting effective political business, rather than being bogged down in the morass of special interest groups, minor parties and joke tickets. It'll do until people realize they will be better off under a one party system. :mwaha:

it IS undemocratic. whats democratic about someone saying that you cant run for office?
and it does affect me. I want to be President. then I can fix all the problems with the US myself... and there are many problems....

also, its unreasonable to have a direct democracy. it'd take too much time, and too much cost in the world today. a democracy in the 1000's was unreasonable, because technolegy was not high enough to handle it. only in the 16 and 1700's did we reach a level where we COULD have democracy. perhaps one day we can have direct democracy... but not today.

whats so reasonable about telling someone they cany run for office?

>chokes on drink<
I hate to break it to ya, fella, but that will happen the day I marry a woman!
To start off with, ye are not a Yanqui citizen, and although ye are saying this should be changed, it is best to be a bit realistic...

Personally I think I should be put in power because I would be the best at slagging off all the other political groups.:D

Back in the U.K. that is what we do. In my 'area' Labour slags off the Lib Dems, the Greens slag off Labour, the Conservatives slag off the Greens, and the Lib Dems slag off the Conservatives.

So it is true. Politics is just a big circle! Of slagging off!!!:D

Wouldn't that be rather self-destructive?

Well my lifelong quest to find something more pointless than tilting at windmills is over. People won't understand me when I use my new phrase, "That is about as pointless as Pellakan trying to become President of the US," but then again, most people don't get the windmill reference either. ;)
