Question for some Car Guys

Nah manage a new car dealership, far more civilized. But have run a used car place before, Japanese grey imports (Supras, Skylines etc). Another world let me tell you.

But more than happy to answer any and all questions whilst shamelessly plugging my "ask a" thread, just follow the link in my sig

they want 4,900? offer 4,300 and go up to 4,500

:D

hang tough at 4,300 ;) that is a bunch of miles and years, but you'll feel good if you can get 'em down a few hundred

I would suggest if you are adamant you wish to buy from a dealer and don`t want to investigate the auctions, then whack the credit card on the desk and offer $3000. I`m serious.

Why? because you set the tone for all further price discussion. By making the crazy offer at the start the dealer thinks "Oh God, this is going nowhere, but maybe, just maybe if I can get them up $1000 I might have a deal, albeit an crappy one".

And when you consider how many timewasters we deal with, we all love the firm slap on the desk of a credit card.

do you need a dealer's license for auctions where you're at?

my buddies have a shop and sell cars they fix up on the side but I remember one saying I couldn't buy at an auction without one :(

Thanks for all the info guys! We decided that since I've been learning it pretty quickly that I'd just drive my Dad's old MR-2.

Well, that is certainly quite a difference. The MR2 should be a lot more fun, especially if you get into autocrossing which I highly recommend for any young driver.

I don't know what year that is, but that brand seems pretty nice actually

They are great mid-engine 2-passenger sports cars. Other than for safety aspects due to their relatively small size, I can't think of many better used cars for a young adult.

So now get out there and kill some cones!

Yeah, I've been learning how to actually drive a clutch, and it is a lot more fun.

@civ_king: It's an '87

What on earth is "driving a clutch"?

Do you just mean a manual?

I've never really understood the appeal of automatics. I suppose I might when I'm 90 years old.
