Questions about Brave New World that don't deserve their own thread.

The yield is +2 gold with +2 culture at Acoustics. I do not believe that it gets the same increases as trading posts at Economics and with that Rationalism policy.

Actually I remember seeing a tool tip flash of the +17% Universities +1 for Trade Posts, and it did not mention Brazilwood Camps

Plus it appears Culture is more significant now than it used to be, so i would imagine that might have been overpowered

I can't speak for the Rationalism policy, but there doesn't seem to be an errant modifier at economics for Brazilwood Camps.

With regards to over-powered-ness. You won't see me throw that term around until release. That's not a judgement that a rational person can make given the information that we currently have. A certain new mechanic may be overpowered if it were placed in the G&K environment, but it may be perfectly balanced in the BNW environment, of which we know considerably less.

Well, i kinda threw "overpowered" there just because (i have spent TOO MUCH time in LoL forums in the past ).

It's just that i though you answered like that because of the "a UI with the capability of turning a tile to a 2 Food + 3 Gold + 2 Culture + 2 Science tile? Too much stuff" rationale.

(Yes, i realize that the Science yield comes from Universities, but why wouldn't you build Universities in Brazilian cities with Jungle tiles?)

May have been asked already, but:

Do we think BNW is going to be delayed and released late at this point? After all, didn't G&K hit the Steam store for pre-purchase a couple of months in advance, and here we are with about a month to go and no store listing for BNW yet?

Just curious.

It's up (for 10% off) on Green Man Gaming. Release date is still July 9th there. Just checked, It is up on Steam now as well, same discount.

Currently, more often than not, I see AI civs choosing Order, if they choose one of the three at all. I wonder if this will change in BNW, or will we continue to see a domination of the Order ideology.

This is kind of similar to how most of the AI would choose Christianity, but they say they have fixed that by splitting Christianity into 3 different religions. I'm hoping they do the same for the ideologies, because while Order tends to be the best for my style of play. I hate to take significant diplo hits just because I want freedom this time.

Does anyone know if there will be a playable demo for BNW? If so, when will it be available (at release date, or sometime later)? Sorry if this information is out there somewhere, but I haven't seen it or know where to look for it. Thanks.

Seeing as there are a lot of new threads that ask simple questions I am going to bump this one.

Probably not.

Could be asked already, but does one need an Open Borders agreement to create international trade routes?

(to clarify, it seems weird that one must allow another player full right of passage, including military, to let those peaceful cargo ships and caravans in...)

You don't need open borders. However, it will boost trade if you have them (iirc).

I have no idea if this question has been asked before...

Will it be possible in BNW to use hammers to hard-build faith purchasable buildings such as mosques as a strategy for saving faith for other uses? I've often found it sad that you can't do a faith building strategy and still purchase a lot of great prophets and missionaries.

Mosques are good but only really when it comes to getting you more mosques.

Forcing you to choose is the point of making them all rely on the same currency. Making the choice is part of strategy, which is the appeal of this game. I doubt they will change it.

Yeah I don't exactly disagree, I am just wondering. Being able to use hammers to build a faith building would still be a strategic choice though, as there are always other things to use your hammers on. It could be an option for making more strategies IMO, not less.

It's the point, it's like a bonus building you can only build, no, you won't be able to built Mosques/Cathedrals/Monasteries/Pagodas with hammers.

Faith is a resource one can allocate in a few different ways: religious units, faith buildings, military units and Great People. I think the point is that you can't have them all at once - and as a corollary, you can always find use for more faith and it never becomes a wasted resource.

Yes but there is still the deus ex machina of natural wonders to contend with. They are the gift that keeps on giving and can allow for disproportionate religion spreading for one religion whereas another chose a bonus building and must spend their faith predominantly on constructing those buildings. I've always found that bland. *shrug*

/Edit: and it's true that NW's can work for a faith building strategy just as well... I don't know, it just seems like a self fulfilling prophecy that if you choose a faith building then thou shalt not spread thine religion if ye didn't get Religious Texts or Itinerant Preachers.

That's true to some extent, although I think that matters the most in the very early game very faith is still very scarce. Later on, any civ that didn't miss the religion race altogether can find other ways to make up the gap caused by Mt. Sinai or other natural wonder.

Note that, even if you choose religious building beliefs, you can opt to spend the faith resource to get a missionary for added religious leverage. It's a matter of strategy - which will help you more, a missionary or a mosque?

Haha I did not mean to start such an overall rise by asking that question :)

It is true that there is balance in terms of the benefit, like lets say if you had cathedrals in 5 cities which give you among other things, 15 culture per turn versus another religion which has the culture founder belief and has chosen a religion spreading strategy. Let's say their religion is in 8-10 cities giving them roughly the same amount of cpt. Yes there is balance. I was just woebegone about the fact that some religions are very self serving and the whole religious game for a person who selects those buildings could be geared towards having a religion that keeps to itself, with a 1-3 strategic missionary/prophet uses.

My thought regarding a change in BNW was mainly that faith buildings could increase in production cost to parallel the faith cost and that maybe you could have a little more religious spread if you hard built some of your buildings. Religion seems to be able to do a lot of new interesting things these days and I was wondering if it was venturing into that realm as well. Anywho, I will consider the case closed!!! Sorry for off topic!
