Questions about Brave New World that don't deserve their own thread.

Your Tourism is measured individually against each other civilization; you'll have bonuses against some and not others. To win, your accumulated Tourism with each other civilization must exceed that civilization's accumulated Culture. The other civilization's Tourism is irrelevant in this calculation.

I've been wondering if there is going to be some restriction on the Science victory. With the other three victory conditions now you have to fight against the other civs to win, and you can have a balanced state where no one is winning. With Science, it is just about who gets there first, and what other civs do in the Science field has little influence, and Culture and Diplomacy don't really seem to be able to stop Science. That makes Science a rather unavoidable victory, which is what the time victory should be really. Or in other words, you can defend yourself against someone else winning a Domination, Culture or Diplomatic victory while trying to win in a different way, but you can't defend yourself against someone winning a Science victory unless you beat them to victory.

I think the Science Victory really is the "inevitable" victory for regular players. Time Victory is for game journalists who play the game on Settler difficulty.

Ugh, I've been playing on King for the first time, and Russia has already built half the spaceship parts. I think I'm screwed.

Does nuking a capital destroy spaceship progress? I assume it must if you take the city, since all the stuff is there...

I'm not sure, actually, but if she has any SpaceShip Parts laying around (use a spy to check it out), they'll sure to be destroyed, making her lose precious turns of production...
If all goes wrong, at least you got to see a pretty cloud! :)

Will BnW allow all the map scripts to be playable in multiplayer? Multiplayer only uses about half the map scripts for some reason. For example you cannot play the sandstorm map type in MP, only in SP. I see absolutely no reason why these maps arn't useable for MP and I'm hoping/wondering if they finally will be with BnW.

Edit: Also, do we know if we will see any MP improvments such as the AI proposing trades and friending//denouncing etc?

What about general UI improvments for MP? For example in MP lots of pop ups are simply...missing. If you discover some ruins you don't get a window telling you what they did, you basically have to watch various numbers like culture or gold to see if that's what you got. It's been a while since I palyed MP but I'm sure there are a handful of other things like this that could use improvment in MP( I also realize we probably have no idea about this one but i thought I would ask anyway)

So how exactly do trade routes work? Can one city export multiple trade routes? can one city import multiple trade routes?

@Calouste - I'd like some changes to the science VC as well. I think the idea currently is that you can DoW the civ getting close and destroy the parts as they move toward the destination city but that doesn't work very well does it? To enhance the VC I suggest: make the SS parts more expensive production-wise (it should be a real accomplishment creating each part), make SS parts capturable like workers (will make DoWing your competitor more tangibly better) and sabotaging SS parts available for spies (there's a general dislike for industrial sabotage, but that's civ4-style sabotage where it was just annoying, destroying buildings and such - in this case it's a way to defend against defeat). Of course, teaching the AI to win via space effectively would be a great boon as well, and something that should really be done before anything else.

Capturing the capital does NOT disrupt spaceship building progress. I tested this out very recently.

Idk about that. I recently played a game as Mongolia with Rome running away with me just to my east. We were neck and neck on space ship progress, so I stacked my modern armors, missile cruisers, and nukes, close to his border waiting, but he beat me to victory before I made the move (by 4 turns I later found out). So I rolled back to a save from 5 turns prior to his winning, and started the assault immediately, dropping 2 nukes on the first turn, and the third nuke on the 2nd turn (I'd imagine by reducing his pop, he suffered production losses). I continued my assault for two more turns and captured Rome (his partially finished spaceship still standing there), while mine blasted off to a "brave new world" about 5 turns later.

So I can't say whether I took completely over his spaceship production by taking his capital, or if I just slowed his production so much that I held out for victory.

In either case, I'm thinking about turning Science VC off for my next few playthroughs, it's just too easy for the AI, and it's was too easy for me to switch to from my Culture VC endeavor (1 policy, and Utopia away at the time of my Science Victory).

I think you just interrupted his production. In my recent game, I took the enemy's capital, but afterward I looked in the Victory screen, and it still showed all his previously built components still intact. If you still have a save from your game, check the Victory screen from before and after you took his capital.

I always hoped the Science victory was different that it was determined by the player who had the most techs researched FIRST and similar to the diplomatic victory that it is started by researching a tech and building a the start of some international project then the person who puts the most work into the project, scientifically, could get extra "techs" researched to get in the lead.
On topic: On the Overlay HUD on the top of the screen i see a new symbol with 2 arrows. I think it has something to do with trade routes but I don't know exactly, anyone?

So is the only way to make money on coastal tiles, in the beginning at least, through international trade routes?

Darn it, I just went in and checked, and I don't have a save from that time still (I rely pretty heavily on auto-save after each turn (to circumvent CTDs if they occur)) and of course I always press "Just...one...more...turn"! :)

That is what it stands for. If you hover over it, it gives you information on the Trade Routes you have.

but this is how

If the city has a seaport and they took the proper Exploration policy then all the gold is accounted for. +1 for fish, +1 for seaport, +1 for policy. No base gold on the tile.

So i'd say yes, in the beginning stages of the game, the coast is not so "golden"

In the IGN video, cash trading with Poland is greyed out. Does this means no more cash trading for game boost/abuse in BNW?

Does anyone know if the ideology bonuses are on a first come first served basis, like religious beliefs?
