Questions & Answers

Good question, I didn't dare to ask :D

There's another way to take screenshots other than the print key? I've always wondered what that naming box I sometimes see in screenshots is.

I believe in the options there's a way to change the hot keys for anything so yes.

Ah, I realise my mistake, if you want to name your screenshots (and run the risk of seeing the text box in the screenshot) do what I've been doing, and press SHIFT+PRTSC. It seems I've been overcomplicating matters..

Two quick questions - are expansion civic bonuses retroactive? That is, if I'm Portugal and make use of my Carracks immediately, will my already-settled cities provide a bonus once I reach Astronomy and Resettlement, or do the cities only provide the stability bonus if founded under Resettlement? Also - if I'm building the Spanish Empire with colonies and Resettlement, then switch to Occupation when it's time to capture the other Euro's colonies, then switch back to Resettlement once the smoke clears and Occupation is no longer advantageous - do I get the Resettlement bonuses back, or are they lost when I switch civics?

Second question (sorry - I guess these weren't such quick questions afterall) - I know razing cities provides a permanent stability hit, but what about spawn-killing a civ? I've just done a UHV game as Greece, and all is going well - I built all 4 UHV wonders AND Moai Statues in Athens (the city is unstoppable!), managed to deny the Arabians the Levant and win their war of independence, and now the Turkish Peoples have spawned outside Byzantion. No other civs are in the area to have contact with them to know of the actrocity I'm about to commit, and since the Romans had the nerve to build the Great Wall, I have a massive army in the Balkans which I had no choice but to build to protect Macedonia and Thrace from the Barbarian uprising Rome funneled my way. I have enough cannons, knights and musketmen from this Barbarian army to kill them where they stand before they build a city, but is it stability-advantageous over waiting for them them to found Sogut and taking it from them? The Turk UP is far too annoying to let them live, but I razed the dual-holy city Dilli, so I'm afraid of further permanent stability hits.

You get bonus of Resettlement when you found cities- no matter if you change it later on. Occupation makes some penalties not being count while it is active so it's the best to keep it later on.

There is no penalty (as far as I know) for killing spawning civ but it's quite hard and exploiting. I'd let them spawn and kill them later- stability shouldn't be too big problem (but it's annoying nevertheless).

Is there any chance to play the RFC mod without having patched BTS to 3.19? cos I bought my BTS on a German webpage that doesn't offer any special version of this patch and the normal patch version won't work...

you can play the RFC version shipped with the game, but do not install the latest version without the 3.19 patch.

Not sure if you talk about RFC or BTS when you talk about patch, but you can download the BTS 3.19 patch from this website.

Is there any way to erase my hall of fame? I'm using VD as a modmod if that matters ...

Thanks Luko!

How about disbanding a revolting rival city? Does this lead to razing penalties? I run into this frequently when holding a dead civ's capital (especially the cities of Rome/Athens/Istanbul) and pick up quite a few unintended cities well beyond my stability safe-zones. I usually disband these cities, as they will only serve to drag down my economy (and as their boders swell, so do the number of red-zone tiles in my territory). Is disbanding them okay, or am I better off trying to hand them back to the prior owner?

How do you flip to a civ revolting against you? I.E. changing from Rome to England?

EDIT: Is there a list of scripted events in RFC?(Crusades, conquistadores)

There is no list because there is not many scripted events (AFAIK conquistadores are the only one. Crusades appear in modmods).
You get a question if you want to take control of England when they spawn. But you can change to a different civ only once in the whole game.

@rock_star: Razing cities gives you permanent stability penalty, so it's usually better to just give them away (especially if you have many cities).

How do I update from the out of the box version of BTS to the latest patch and then to the latest patch of RFC?

You find the latest versions here on this site. Try the download database?

I had lot of questions about how stability works so i decided to add simple stability logger to Stability.py file, which is working great :) However some other questions have rise :) (btw i'm using rfc for beyond the sword)

Could somebody tell me how exactly "plots abroad" (iNumPlotsAbroad) works? It's fixed limit for owned plots and i'll get negative stability all the time i'll expand over this limit? (no matter if the plots are in stable or unstable areas?) Then additional question: are vassals plots counted in this value (iNumPlotsAbroad)?

Then one simple question about city occupation, as i understand city is under occupation temporary - if it's true how exactly the time is counted? Or it's just permanent?

Btw one more question - shouldn't the plot abroad be different for each civilization? For example Netherlands or Ethiopia (theoretically small empire most of the game) have value on monarch 36, and same value have Russia/China/USA (theoretically big empire most of the game)? I though there will be some differences (as i red it in stability guide somewhere...)

Thanks in advance for answer(s) :)

Also if somebody is interested in the changed code, i can send you the file (Stability.py), the log is written to log file, you just need to set file name on the file start... The code is kind of rough, but you probably now ;) Also the log messages some knowledge about python scripts and Stability.py is needed to understand it... And of course the logging could bring some new errors to the stability, but hopefully not (python exceptions enabled are recommended, see CivilizationIV.ini) so the code is without any guarantee.

I just have one quick question. I'm playing the latest version of RFC, running the latest patch of BTS, and downloaded the RFC Varietas Delectat modmod, and I'm playing a game of China. The modmod works and I managed to complete the first two objectives for the historical victory. I go to themilitary advisor and I count how many troops I have. I have 131; more than enough to pass the final objective. I save the game and then click "end turn." Unfortunately, the game crashes. Anyone know why? Thanks in advance.

this reply can be deleted... I found out the question was already anwsered (A)

is it just me or are cottages/hamlets/etc useless? i do not see them adding to my income like in normal civ4, is the only way to earn substantial amounts of gold by converting your production to wealth and great merchants? It just seems like im missing something or playing the MOD wrong.

Yes, you're wrong. Cottages -> Towns work just like in the core game. Note that you can follow where exactly your income is coming from in the City Screen.
