dumb question:
what's the proper way to sign on/off from this site?
i've been just shortcutting to http://www.civfanatics.com, and closing the window when i'm done, but then when i vote in a poll, it tells me my session isn't valid, or something like that...

What do the three number in parentheses on the information panel, at the bottom right hand side of the screen, mean? I see tham changing but have no clue what they are telling me.

When it says desptism's corruption is "Rampet", how does that translate into accual %'s and numbers?

MadScot...about the shift-u problem..I uninstalled, and began the process of patching. When PTW1.21f or 1.27f is applied I loose shift-U function. I am really unsure what to do now. Not patch??

OK, this is probably going to be quite painful. Firaxis made a total pigs' breakfast of the last patch release, and some poor labelling of patches didn't help.

I hope you're using the US patches. I also hope you aren't being confused by the lunatic decision to run concurrent versions, such that there are two sets of 1.21 patches, one for Civ3 and one for PTW. If you're using the Civ3 patch 1.21 for PTW or vice versa it could be doing weird stuff.

(I suspect these are not the cause, but best to cover all bases).

OK, AFAIK 1.27 for PTW is primarily a multiplayer patch - it has one supposed fix for an exploit in PTW, which actually made the problem worse; nice work guys. Personally I've stayed at 1.21f rather than use 1.27f.

The following are the main parts of the 1.21f from the readme:
Additions in v1.21f:
* editor stuff
* Multiplayerstuff.
* force feedback stuff.
* Added a civilopedia reference .

Changes in v1.21f:
* Hidden Nationality units are no longer forcibly removed from enemy territory via diplomacy.
* Expansionist civs can no longer build Scouts when civ-specific abilities are disabled.
* multiplayer stuff
* ICBM's can no longer auto-bombard.
* Improved Pangaea map generation.
* Improved random free tech selection for the Scientific civ trait.

Fixes in v1.21f:
* various civilopedia errors
* textual changes to various messages
* other interface issues
* The AI can no longer be set to player '0' (barbarian) when loading a game.
* Fixed a bug with auto-precision bombing not choosing the proper targets.
* Fixed bug (Single player and MP) where you could select a unit in an army and unload him (move him out).
* Fixed bug where auto-bombard would not auto-bomb multiple terrain improvements in neutral territory.
* Fixed the military advisor speed.
* Fixed bug where you could not ask an AI civ to remove its units from your territory.
* Slightly increased turn-flip performance to minimize lag (especially post-turn lag) in larger games with slower machines.
* Fixed crash when a mod had less than 24 races and the player chose 'Random'.
* Fixed unit movement on road after combat bug.
* Fixed bug with unit healing.
* Fixed several bugs involving the display of several items near and crossing the x/y boundaries of the map.
* Fixed multiplayer stuff.
Personally, there's not a lot in 1.21f if you don't play multiplayer. I'd be tempted to stick with 1.14f if the shift-U thing annoys you.

I do not play multiplayer very often. If I do, it is a hot-seat style. I installed only the 1.27 and the problem persisted. Someone apparantly forgot a key step in fixing code...Don't break something else on the way! I wonder if adequate testing is really ever done with these patches. I am a programmer and it seems hurried patching is a bane to the gaming community. I digress.
I will just do the 1.14 and continue enjoying the game. Thanks for your help Mad Scot

Greensleeves,
I have been using PTW 1.21 for a while and shift U works fine for me. It will nicely upgrade all units of the type I have selected assuming an upgrade exists and have enough cash.

I have the US version though I really hope that doesn't matter

Its messages are bit weird if you don't have the funds for 1 unit. You don't get the you need x gold to upgrade y units message in that case.

I would double check this. Make sure you have the upgrade icon for the unit before trying it. That way you know you have met all the conditions and have enough gold for the one unit.

I'm currently playing a 15-opponents game on Civ3. Is it possble to contact more than the 8 civs that you can see in the "circle" or leaders? I've met with all civs but can't seem top contact them at will since there'r nowhere to click.

Any suggestions?
Thanks!

The little panel showing your goverment, income, etc (in the bottom right cornor) should have several little letters at the far right. (D(diplomacy)E(espionage)P(palace)H(histograph)S(spaceship). Click on the D and it should show a list of ALL of the civs you've met. You just have to double-click on that civ... and it goes to the diplomacy screen.

The other option is to Shift-control-click, or shift-right-click on one of the leaders in the F4 circle. This should bring up a list of the hidden leaders and you can select one to replace the one you clicked., then you can talk to that one by double clicking her in the usual way. I use this method rather than the D button because I can get around them faster using the F4 screen, and I relegate the least interesting ones to the shift-right-click world.

Another tip is to leave unfinished business on each leader's neotiation screen and hit Escape to close it. Then, when you double click that leader later you get straight into the negotiation screen without clicking the "Have I got a deal for you!" button first.

[ptw] 1.21f, Open

I'm not exactly a newbie - but feel like one compared to some of you guys who have been playing the GOTMs for ages.

I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer for anywhere - and I've searched around for a while - and there will be one somewhere, if someone can point me in the right direction.

All I want to do is to attach screenshots in these posts.

I know how to take screenshots and capture them into MS-Paint.
But how do I insert those images into my post before submitting it to a thread? Or should I edit my posting afterwards?

Whichever I should do, how do I do it?

I've also read the write-up in 'vB code' in Forum Rules on attaching images which go into detail about using the '' command but you have to include a [url]http://[/url] file location.

Do I really have to upload the image onto the civfanatics website before I can attach it?

It seems so easy and effortless for most of you guys who regularly post in the GOTM threads. Surely, it isn't that complicated?

Click a Post Reply button rather than just using the Post Reply area at the bottom of the forum listing. Then if you just want to attach a single image at the end of your post, use the "Attach file" bit at the bottom of the Reply editing screen. Click Choose and select your image file. When you sumbit your reply the file will be uploaded at the same time and should appear in your post.

If you want to include multiple images at different points in your post then you need to upload them all by clicking the Upload File option that's at the bottom of every forum page. This opens a small window where you can choose up to three files at a time to upload. Select each file, click "Upload", then click the link to go to the listing of the uploaded files. Right click each file and copy its URL, go back to your post and paste the URL in between IMG and /IMG tags in the appropriate places in your text.

If I can do it anyone can. It ain't very difficult :)

Yes, though its really not that difficult. Just go down to that "Upload File" link at the very bottom of the page. That brings up a form to upload 3 files. When that's done there's an option to "View New Upload Folder X". This lists the files with those most recently uploaded at the top, which will most likely be yours. Just right click and "Copy Shortcut", then paste that into you IMG tag.

[Edit: Ha, AlanH beat me to it! Hi Alan :) ]

Thankyou both Gents.

I shall give it a whirl when I get off shift and back home to my PC.
I didn't think it was complicated but I just couldn't figure it out - having not done it before.

Brilliantly quick response from you both, I have to say.

And again, thanks!

OK, one last one, if I may?

If I use MS-Paint to capture my screenshots, what's the best way of ensuring I don't exceed the required width of 800 pixels?
Should I set the width of the file before uploading the files or is there something I can do before posting them in my posts?

I wouldn't want to face the 'wrath of Cracker' now, would I?

I'm not a big user of MS-Paint, and I've had an attempt at setting the width of the file to 800 today but just end up chopping off half of the screenshot.

Sorry to be a pain but I'm new to all of this...
