I think this is more of a opinion, But whatever :p.

Does anyone play 1BC? maybe only on multiplayer games? It would be very interesting way of playing. :crazyeye: :scan:

You might here of something like 5CC or something.

BC means you can only build X number of cities. So that means you can take all the rest.

So, you don't build any settlers (except to join cities) in a 1 BC game?

Anyone know where I can find the original earth map that came out with Civ 3? I actually think it was version 1.29f. I borrowed the game from a friend and was hooked, and played the earth map, and looking back, it was pretty sweet, even though the map lacks quality or sensibility.

On the game that I am currently playing, my nation just switched to communism and there is no change in the corruption. Corruption in my core cities got worse and there is no change in the corruption in my outer cities at all. I am playing vanilla CIV so I cannot build the secret police headquarters.

Also, do police stations reduce corruption? The civilopedia says that they only reduce war weariness but when I built them in a few of my cities, the corruption went down.

I can't answer the first question as I cannot remember the last time I played with Communism.

However I can confirm that Police Stations reduce corruption. I have just checked with my vanilla disc and the civilopedea does say that they reduce corruption as well as WW. Are you fully patched?

Communism is an effective government with courthouses and police stations for certain situations. Large empires with many captured cities, archipelago maps, goal of domination or conquest, upgrading from a monarchy to name a few. You would do better with other governments if you are going for a space or diplo victory or you have a compact highly productive empire, or you are leaving a republic government.

Are you fully patched?

No, for some reason, I cannot install the patch on my computer. Do police stations still reduce corruption in the non-patched version? I thought the corruption in my cities when down after I built the police stations but I might have just been seeing things.

Also, if I build more cities while in Communism, will this raise the corruption in my core cities?

Yes, to both questions.

I've just checked with the Read Me file and it says that the ability for Police Houses to reduce corruption was added in 1.16. What version do you have?

In vanilla/PtW, corruption can increase when adding more cities in communism until you have 95% corruption in every city! This article gives more detail if you are interested.

Some noob questions...

1. Does planting a forest improve a tundra tile, or is it better to mine that tile?
2. How do I deal with starvation? I am learning to micromanage my cities, but don't know what to do when several cities keep popping up with starvation.
3. Should I stick with the adage, irrigate floorplains and deserts, and mine grasslands, hills and mountains?
4. Other than speedy transport, do railroads provide any defense or other bonus that makes railroading every tile a good idea (other than just railroading enough tiles to get around).

Thanks!:)

Depends on what you need the tile for.

2. How do I deal with starvation? I am learning to micromanage my cities, but don't know what to do when several cities keep popping up with starvation.

Get them more food. If that's not possible, peel off some workers or settlers.

3. Should I stick with the adage, irrigate floorplains and deserts, and mine grasslands, hills and mountains?

Mostly, yes. But you should assess what your empire needs each city to have.

4. Other than speedy transport, do railroads provide any defense or other bonus that makes railroading every tile a good idea (other than just railroading enough tiles to get around).

They don't provide a defense bonus, but they do improve farm and mine output, so rails mean faster movement, more food and more shields. Rail everything in sight.

You're very welcome.

I'll add this to Aabraxan's reply:
1)Until you get Railroads, foresting gives you more shields...and then, they're equal (so I just plant the forest)...and with forests, you have a better chance of Uranium showing up in your lands (if it has expired elsewhere)

Some noob questions...

1. Does planting a forest improve a tundra tile, or is it better to mine that tile?

Basic tundra: 0 shields
Forrest gives 2 shields
Mine adds +1 shield
RR adds +1 shield to mine.

In addition, forest also look prettier!

2. How do I deal with starvation? I am learning to micromanage my cities, but don't know what to do when several cities keep popping up with starvation.

Each citizen eats 2 food. each turn.
So if a city has 11 citizens, then 11*2=22 slices of bread are eaten when you hit the next turn button.
If all citizens+the center combined in that city are also generating 22 food that turn, then nothing will happen, the city is stable.
If they generate less than 22 food that turn, the difference is removed from the food bin.
If the food bin is empty, a citizen will starve instead.
If they generate more than 22 food that turn, the difference is added to the food bin. If the food bin is full, a new citizen is born. (unless the city sits at a growth cap)

3. Should I stick with the adage, irrigate floorplains and deserts, and mine grasslands, hills and mountains?

Hills and mountains can only be mined, so there is no choice there.
As for the other tiles, Look at what the nearby city needs.
Suppose you want a city to be size 12, then it needs 24 slices of bread.
So if there are 10 grass tiles and 2 plains, then you can mine all (including the plains) If there are 8 grass tiles and 4 plains, then you'll have to irrigate 2 plains.

If you want a city to grow fast (to pump out settlers for example), irrigate even more.

But keep in mind the despotism penalty...

4. Other than speedy transport, do railroads provide any defense or other bonus that makes railroading every tile a good idea (other than just railroading enough tiles to get around).

A rail adds +1 food to an irrigation and +1 shield to a mine.

2. How do I deal with starvation? I am learning to micromanage my cities, but don't know what to do when several cities keep popping up with starvation.

One small addition to this question. When you're in the Industrial Age and have rails, your cities are often close to their maximum size. If placed close together, they may not have enough food to get quite to maximum, but have just a single extra food.

For example, a size 10 city with some irrigated, railed grassland and 21 fpt. That one extra food will cause it to grow to 11, yet it may not have that 22nd food to support the 11th citizen, who will then starve. This cycle can repeat over and over again. One way of stopping that growth/starvation cycle is to leave 1 irrigated grassland tile unrailed. :)
