Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

BUG, BULL, BAT latest versions and where to get them. There are about 9 million zillion links to those files (with most of them unfunded mandate links), so I need direction to the latest. Are they still in development or have they stagnanted? thanks much! Joseph

The BUG/BAT/BULL subforum. The latest versions are BUG 4.4, BAT 3.0.1, and BULL 1.2. I recommend BAT, which is BUG+BULL+extra graphics.

1) How does one pause the game?
2) Does BUFFY contain BAT as well as BUG and BULL?

1) It isn't entirely clear why you'd need to pause a turn based game... But the Pause key should do it, I think.

2) No.

3, even though there was no 3) There is also a Better BAT AI mod which adds a customized version of Better BtS AI (BBAI) to BAT (done by Lemon Merchant, who is also in charge of regular BAT), and a Better BUG AI mod (by Fuyu) that is BBAI + BULL (and, of course, BUG, which is part of BULL).

Um...where would I find the Pause key? Thanks for the BUG/BULL/BAT info...I'm not sure what I should do...I kinda just want BUG, but I also want to play the HOF games...suggestions?

Varies a bit from computer to computer but it's normally on the top row a couple of keys to the right of the function keys. On small laptops you may have to use an Fn key to access it (usually a blue key to the left of the space bar)

If you're not interested in BAT and want to play the HOF games then just get Buffy. It's all you need.

Exactly. And I can't find a Pause key on my laptop's keyboard. Any other suggestions?

Look near the PrtSc (Print Screen) and Ins (Insert) buttons.. that's where it is on mine.

The Last Stand series is great. There are actually a lot of good flash games out there that have long play time, are very in depth, etc. Another good zombie series is Sonny 1 and 2, and then there's the fabled Mardek 1, 2, and 3.

I never got into Mardek. I have played and completed all TLS, though. Sonny, I sort of went through about midway, but it was too much grinding for me and I got bored.

That is one of the flaws of a lot of Flash RPGs. They tend to require grinding. If you don't grind for levels and resources, it is impossible to complete. TLS doesn't require it, and that is why I absolutely love it :)

Recently played through a prince game as Elizabeth where I focused on just cottage economy. Then last night, I did a playthrough as Sulieman where I was giving the specialist economy my first real attempt (was standard speed instead of epic as I did with Liz but difficulty was still prince) but I had a lot more success in the prior game.

Obviously, the two games varied from each other in several ways I still feel like I'm not 'microing' properly under a SE. Are there any recent playthroughs posted here with attached saves from a monarch+ game that would be useful to me?

Having trouble digging through the forums for this but I'll keep trying in the meantime. Thanks.

It is the Fin part of Liz that gives the extra success, since she is Phi also. She is the ultimate in making economy easy, especially when you throw in the Stock Exchange.

Current Civ thinking is to not get too hung up on concepts like "SE" versus "CE". Specialize each city in a way that makes the most sense for its resources, terrain, and your own needs. In almost every game you will end up running some sort of hybrid economy.

Sure, I see what you mean there and don't disagree. I still wouldn't mind a decent playthrough on monarch or higher though. I'm getting pretty overwhelmed on monarch and could use an example to follow.

Do techs received as a result of war concessions count towards "we fear you are becomingtoo advanced"?

What about those pity gifts from AIs?

I think that both of those do not count towards the We Fear boycott limit. My understanding is that only tech for tech trades bring you closer to fear-based trade isolation. I would like to have that confirmed by others though, to be sure.

I've got nothing that blatantly says "Pause"....oh well.

FWIW, my F15 key says "pause" in small print above the "F15". It's in the same cluster as the "print screen" and "scroll lock" keys, which are F13 and F14 on my keyboard. OTOH, I have never used it as a pause key.

How about this. When you want to pause the game, save it. When you come back reload the save. It should start up from where it was when you saved it, clock status included.
