Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

No and no. Forest preserves only provide their benefits if they're in the BFC (big fat cross), that is, the tiles the citizens of that city can work--the first 2 culture rings, basically.

Forest preserves are very weak tiles; they provide a very negligible production return--IIRC, no improvement over the base tile's food and hammers--for a very small benefit. There are better ways to improve forest tiles (including chopping them), and better ways to obtain and increase happiness. The only time I bother with forest preserves are around the National Park city for the free specialists--and in some games I don't bother to build the NP.

In some non-ancient starts the NP+NE in Environmentalism is a very strong play. Environmentalism increased the commerce output of the FP's to make those tile worth using. Otherwise, NP is something I usually only bother with in OCC games. NP+Globe Theatre in a OCC is very nice if going for a long victory condition.

I'm about 100% certain this doesn't belong here, but I can't seem to get a response in the Tech Support Forum.

Please feel free to delete if I'm breaking some form of protocol. I started a thread in Tech. Support 5 days ago regarding a web site problem (not getting e-mail notifications on thread updates). I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, and why my subscriptions have just out of the blue stopped coming. I chose Tech Support as it was the only place that seemed to make sense, but it is going absoutely no where. Thought I would try here since there is much more traffic.

The Tech Support forum is usually for tech support for the game, not the web site. Try going to the top level of the forum and scroll to the bottom for the CivFanatics/Site Feedback forum.

Aside from that, check your spam filter(s)--a recent update may have resulted in automatic e-mails from this forum getting treated as spam.

Thank you sir. Though it took me a while to actually find it, I believe my search for the proper forum to get an answer may have enlightened me some! Your help, as always, is most gracious, and greatly appreciated!

Why is this farm not irrigated? Yes I have civil service. I even pillaged it and made it again.

I have a question: If i download the BAT mod, does it run separately than BTS or does it attach to BTS in a way that if i want to play it unmodded I have to uninstall it?

The latest BAT mod creates its own shortcut on the desktop. If you click on the BAT shortcut, it loads Civ4 with the BAT mod. If you also keep your existing Civ4 icon, it will launch un-BATted Civ4. I believe most mods are set up this way.

Is it for Vanilla or BTS?

And is it free?

Not 100% sure of what you mean, but I think this is your answer:

BtS and Vanilla are the base games that you had to buy at some point. The BAT mod, and the other Mods listed on this site are free to download and play. I assume there could be an exception somewhere here, but I've yet to see it, and I've downloaded a large number of Mods.

I play the BAT mod on a regular basis and have never had to pay anything for it. Hope that helps!

:thanx: That is what i meant

I have the Complete Edition :D

I downloaded the BAT mod. How do i launch it?

You have to install it first. Depending on how you choose to install it, it will either automatically launch with BtS, or it will launch from an icon, or you can load it as a mod within the game.

I'm pretty tech backwards so i normally look for the Easiest way to do things. As Sisiutil pointed out after you download you should be able to find a small "Bat" icon either in the unzipped file, or it'll be on your desktop if you told the installer to put it there. I have found with most mods that if they have the Icon it saves alot of confusion (for me anyway) about loading the particular mod I'm looking for.

Actually it can if he farms the tiles near the rivers all the way to the Farm

Yeah... but he isn't irrigating through the city on the hill. He's irrigating through the farms around it.
