Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Please answer me:

1. I didn't find an option to hide the units over cities. Is there one?

2. Everytime I start a new custom game I can´t change the AI civs level on that last box. It's always "nobble". How do I change it?

3. And also, is there any way to "quick start" the game with the same options you set in the last one, like it was in Civ III? Everytime I have to waste time selecting the same civs and the same options in the "custom game" menu.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the silly questions, I'm still learning the basics of the game, that to me seems to be very different from Civ III.

1. No clue but I think no.
2. You are not supposed to change it (that is the default). Believe me when you change the difficulty level they change;).
3. Umm, I think the play now option is the fastest. But for the most part no.

Hope this helps:).

Condor answered 2 & 3 so I'll answer 1:
On the bottom right of the screen there are 6 buttons above the minimap (not including the globe button) the third from the left has a picture of a tiny mountain and bay on it. If you click that one it will hide all units, cities signs an lift the fog of war. You won't see anything that you haven't explored; it just removes the dark fog.

Thank you, Condor and Alphawolf.

But is there any way to remove just the unit, not the city signs?

You are welcome.

Ehem, anyone have an answer to my question? How do I uninstall Civ IV?

Same way you uninstall any program. Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, click on the program you want to uninstall. It's under "S" in alphabetical order---maybe that is your problem?

It doesn't appear there. O.o

((And yes, I have uninstalled countless games before))

1. If I drag additional music to the soundtrack folders, will they automatically play in turn or do I need to remane them like those already there? Do I need to change any ini files?

2. During the AI turn often small tech icons display at the top center of the screen. They seem to be what the AI are researching or just discovered. Does anyone know how to read them or assign them to specific AI?

I haven't noticed this, but if it's a whole row of small icons, then it's probably the list of choices for that player after they finished a previous research task.

With the new patch (1.52) you can restart the game. In the first few turns of a new game you've just started, click the menu and select "regenerate map". There is no way to do it from the main menu.

These icons have nothing to do with the AI. ;) They are your options for research. Your beakers are put towards to the tech that you are reseaching when you end your turn, those icons appear after you have researched a tech but before you start research on another one. Those are your options, you may have noticed that when you start a new game those icons are there also.

My choices, huh. Too bad. Thanks Wolf.

Hi :)

Am I right when I say that the 'Favourite Civic' listing assigned for a leader is simply a reflection of that leader's style of governance, and that there is no special advantage in adopting the Favourite Civic assigned to any particular leader? In other words, there are no bonuses or advantages associated with the Favourite Civic feature in this game - right?

Thanks.

There is no bonus to pick the favourite civic for your own leader, but the AI will usually pick their own favourite civic, and if you have the same civics as the AI, they will be more friendly towards you.

What does 'OCC' mean? Also, I've heard people referencing the ability to 'siege' cities. As of yet I have not encountered this ability in the game. Help? Also, what is with the assumption that spies didn't exist until the advent of Communism? This is beyond ludicrous.

How do I find out what government I am and how do I change if I have the ability?

Also I have lots of money, so how can I pay to finish stuff early?

Boy do I feel like a dummy. Just as I get pretty good at III I start playing IV maybe I am a dummy.

I can't even finish the Tutorial in CIV4!! Can't search for the moment as the function is off....but
1) you can't save the tutorial and come back to it later...I tried...save function seems disabled. How long is this tutorial anyway?
2) It asks to find a second village and there isn't one on the map!..keep getting "tile not allowed " press G to go to village...Tutorial gets out of sync then.
3) The dialogue instruction box gets out of sync with the actions you are asked to do.
4) is this a pre-view of the quality of the game?

Any suggestions?
