Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

In the Black Civ 4 "box" that I bought, there was a folding cardboard keyboard short-cut list.

On my laptop, if you hold down the "Fn" key and press a number key (viz. 1-4 & 6-9), the unit will move. :)

Most laptops in effect have a 'numberpad' using a function key and some of the normal letter keys. If yours is like this then this can be used to move units in Civ 4 like a normal numberpad, though it is a little inconvienient to use.

I'm a little confused about shrines and the religious wonders. The effect of shrines built by great prophets and wonders such as the church of the nativity seem the same. Are the religious wonders and shrimes the same? If they are, as I suspect, then it doesn't make sense to list them as wonders in the civlopedia. If they are different would someone please tell what the difference is?

Thanks for the earlier answers.

How does the program decide in which city a religion is founded? Does a city gain any advantages to being the founding city of a religion?

The city a religion is founded in is completely random as far as I know. It will get +5 culture per turn if you have that religion as state religion, or have no state religion. As the 'Holy City' of that religion it is the only place that the shrine for that religion can be built. This shrine gives 1 gold per turn for every city in the world with that religion, which can add up to a vast amount over the course of a game. It also boosts culture, great people production and the spread of that religion. The shrines and religious wonders are exactly the same thing, so don't be confused by them being listed as world wonders. They can only every be constructed by a prophet in the holy city of that religion.

They're the same - the Church of the Nativity is the shrine built by a great prophet in the Christian Holy City. I imagine they're classed as wonders because the world can only build one of each (only one holy city for each religion).

They also have the other properties of World Wonders, such as being visible to other players, and not being destroyed when the city is captured.

4. No.

I have a quick question that is probably obvious to everyone but me. How do you actually spend the gold to hurry production when you have the universal suffrage?

There's a small button with an arrow pointing up, in the lower right of the city screen. (There are actually two, side by side: one for Slavery, and one for Universal Suffrage.) It's immediately under a button labeled DRAFT. Even if you don't have Universal Suffrage, you can hover your mouse over the button to see what it would do, if it were enabled.

Don't worry, I had to search it out and I've been playing since Civ1.

Hi :)

Just wondering what happens if two or more civs manage to complete production on a world wonder on the same turn. Which civ would get the wonder and why?

Thanks

The civ that takes its turn first, and because it takes its turn first.

I want to ask you whether forests/jungles influence upon city's health only if they are on the tiles within city's radius or also if they are within civ's cultural borders.

Any tiles within the 20 tiles that the city can potentially work (whether or not those tiles are currently within your cultural borders).

On the subject of forests, I noticed that you can get the 30-Hammer Forest-Chop Bonus even if the forest is outside the 20-square city radius!

Anybody know what the "Rules" are with respect to Forest-Chops? :)

As far as I can tell the closest city of yours gets it, the only qualification is that is has to be in your borders.
