Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

If it's important to build a city one square from the coast, then do it, just remember it won't benefit very much from those coastal squares (not necessarily a big deal, a city has to be size 18 not counting specialists to even use every square)
Actually that number would be 20, not 18. :)

Anyway to get the map to look similar to the map in CIV3?

I have turned on the grid. The dynamic zooming in & out, along with the 'angle' that it is on, is very annoying.

Also, is there a quick way to move units?

If you mean quick units by meaning no animation just go to options and select "no animations".

Also if you want to have a different angle temporily use flying camera mode by enableing it in the .ini and then pressing alt-control-f in game.

A mine won't get you the benefits of the Stone, whereas a Quarry will. ;)

Right you are.

I'm seeing bad reviews and remember the PTW fiasco, can anyone make a good case for buying Warlords? I don't play MP so interoperability's out.

Hello,

If I flag the "Aggressive AI" option in custom games, would that result in more AI vs AI wars also? Or does that refer only to Me vs AI interactions?

Also, Epic is supposed to be 'longer' than the standard games right? So it would be Standard<Epic<Marathon?

Thanks in advance.

a4phantom: Haven't got it yet myself, but I'm planning to. Apparently it's actually quite worthwhile, if nothing else you get the chance to play as the barbarians! :D Plus of course the new civs and traits, and a whole host of other stuff.

Still, it's your decision. :)

Hmm, not sure on this one sorry. I'd presume that it relates just to you though (based on several other options, such as "always war", which only relate to the human player). Can't confirm that though.

Correct.

As a warmonger I do like the idea of Great Generals and Vassal States, although I find it helpful to entirely eliminate (after a series of wars and cease fires) victim civilizations, or the dumb suckers I liberate hold out stupid and inconvenient dreams of returning to their native oppressors. But in Americorps and with student loans it takes me almost a week to earn $30. I'm sure I'll buy it eventually, hopefully when the price has dropped to $20 and most of the bugs are whacked. I do want to get my gauntlets on those scenarios.

On that note, how do vassal states work? I'll settle for a link if it's to actual hands on reporting and not pre-release speculation.

Hello,

Just another quick question - If say I've got 2 luxury resources and I'm trading one of them to the AI ; what happens if another AI pillages one of those resource tiles?

Do I lose the effects of the resource in my empire? Or do I lose my agreement w/ the other AI?

If the latter, will that have any effects on my 'relations' w/ the AI I was trading with?

What if it's the other way around, and say I pillage an AI's resource tiles while they are trading it with someone else, will that affect my relations w/ the AI that they are trading with?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

If I build more than one power station in a city, does that mean I get more production in that city?

I only ask because in my last game I built the Three Gorges Dam wonder but it allowed me to build additional power stations in the cities on that continent, which seems a bit strange to me.

Thanks :)

Thanks RB. I see that Masters have to pay upkeep for the vassal territory, thus defeating what I thought the purpose was (controlling roads, resources and the materials of a domination victory without soaring upkeep costs). How is 'charismatic' playing out? Specifically the -25% promo cost.

Nope, so only build TGD or hydros (on river cities). It's very annoying that once you have TGD or hydros you still get offered coal plants but there you have it.

Does the amount of food a city produces have to be kept above the amount of food used, or can it be the same as whats used? In my current game, the amount of food my capital makes is 80. Does that mean I can increase the size to 40 and it'll still be okay? Or will there penalties because I'm creating 80 and using 80? Thanks.

Whoah... 80 food per turn... is that even possible in a regular game?

In any event... yes, you can theoretically increase that city's size to 40. However, you will have to overcome a LOT of health problems before you will even be able to get close to that target. (You'll need a minimum of 40 health, and probably more to compensate for improvements like Forge, Factory, Airport, Power Plant, etc.)

I was thinking about nuclear plants... I usually build one or two just to tempt fate. But exactly how small is that 'small chance' of a meltdown?
