Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

I forget how to do this basic thing in civ4:
All the events that flash up in the top left hand and the middle of the screen go too fast and disapeer before I have a chance to read them all. How do I bring up a list of all the past events that have happened.
ie: 'so-and-so just built the pyramids.'

Thanks so much for your input Ori, but I am REALLY frustrated.

Up until about a month ago, this happed VERY occasionally (like maybe once per month) and when I restarted the game, it did not recur.

Now, it happens almost every time. I dropped the settings in the game to low. [boy do those graphics suck!] I set all the settings you mentioned to the reverse (except the ones that refer to movies - this does not happen with movies).

It seems to happen when "panning". Like right after a turn is complete & the game view moves back to your capital - or when I am trying to move the view so I can see some other place...

I would think that someone from Firaxis would monitor the Tech Support Forums and post an answer.

Anyone think that DirectX 10 would help?? (OR HURT??)

I am sorry it didn't help  and I understand the frustration :(

You would think so wouldn't you? Unfortunately Take2 is notoriously bad at Tech supporting and the only reason Civilization is a tad better supported is the free (as in unpaid) Tech Support given by forum members here but I'll stop my rant here, lest I break forum rules regarding my choice of words :gripe:

I just realised that I haven't reformatted my hard drive since the week before Civ4 came out and that is waaaaay to long to go without a reformat. The problem is that I can't find any kind of cd key/activation code for Civ 4. It's been so long since I installed the game that I don't remember if it shipped with one or not. Did it ship without one? The same question goes for Warlords. I really don't want to reformat and not be able to play. Thanks!

If I recall correctly, it did not have one. The security is in the need for the original CD / DVD to be in the drive to play it. The same applies to Warlords/

Hi all,

I consider myself still as a newbie, being in the first campaign. Here's my issue: I have a nice city captured from my nasty neighbor with a relatively high amount of production (approx.>40 hammers, even boosted as I went thru a Golden Age). First the city square itself was dark gray making all units in there like ghosts. I was not really concerned, had to kick other nice dudes out of the continent.. Now some of the adjacent tiles got dark grey as well. What is it and how can I get rid of it? I am in the 1700's, technologically superieur (chieftain, no surprise) with steam power, democracy etc. that era.

It sounds like a graphics bug. Could you show a screenshot?

As nobody has welcomed you yet: Welcome to civfanatics! :band:
