Question: I have build a farm on grassland with rice. There is fresh water.
I thought the food value would be 4 (2 for grassland, 1 for rice, 1 for farm). But I am getting 5 food for this space.
Is this because of fresh water?
I can't find anything in any of the materials (manual, forums, etc.) that tells me I get +5 Food for this space. Please help me understand so I can plan my cities better.
Thanks.
THe behaviour of farms is the following:
- you can build farms on farmable ressources, on fresh water tiles (river, lake, oasis), by chain-irrigation with civil service, and everywhere wth biology.
- a farm is said to be irrigated if it is linked directly or indirectly (with civil service) to a freshwater source.
- the output of a farm tile is the sum of: the output of the tile, the output of the ressource if any, +1 if the farm is irrigated, +1 if you have biology.
So a riverside grassland rice farm will get 3 (tile output, with rice bonus) + 1 (ressource output with a farm) + 1 (irrigaton) so 5 food. f it's not riversde, it will only get 4. In the latter, if you chain-irrigate it, it will provide 5 food. And finally, when you get biology, it will produce 6 food.
As an other example, a non-chained biology farm on a plains will get 1 food (tile) + 1 food (biology) so 2 food. If you chain-rrigate it, il will get 3.
Hope it's clear
